32. Arab localities in Judea and Samaria have retained Biblical
US Professor ,   NY USA   (09.19.10)
Town Names Betray Their True History Finally, Ettinger says that almost all Arab localities in Judea and Samaria have retained Biblical Jewish names, thus reaffirming their Jewish roots. Examples include the following: * Anata is Biblical (and contemporary) Anatot, the dwelling of the Prophet Jeremiah. * Batir is Biblical (and contemporary) Beitar, the headquarters of Bar Kochba, the leader of the Great Rebellion against the Roman Empire, which was suppressed in 135CE. * Beit-Hur is the biblical (and contemporary) Beit Horon, site of Judah the Maccabee's victory over the Assyrians. * Beitin is biblical (and contemporary) Beit El, a site of the Holy Ark and Prophet Samuel's court. * Bethlehem is mentioned 44 times in the Bible and is the birth place of King David. * Beit Jalla is biblical (and contemporary) Gilo, in southern Jerusalem, where Sennacherib set his camp, while besieging Jerusalem. * El-Jib is biblical (and contemporary) Gibeon, Joshua's battleground known for his command to stop the sun and moon (Joshua 10:12). * Jaba' is the biblical (and contemporary) Geva, site of King Saul’s son Jonathan’s victory over the Philistines. * Jenin is the biblical (and contemporary) Ein Ganim, a Levite town within the tribe of Issachar. * Mukhmas is biblical (and contemporary) Mikhmash, residence of Jonathan the Maccabee and site of King Saul's fortress. * Seilun is biblical (and contemporary) Shilo, a site of Joshua's tabernacle and the Holy Ark and Samuel's youth. * Tequa is biblical (and contemporary) Tekoa, hometown of the Prophet Amos.
33. You are right # 25
Marco ,   Brazil   (09.19.10)
Israel is not a free country. It is an American colony.
34. Salma
jUDAH THE LION   (09.19.10)
WHAT is the reason Israel is not purely Jewish state? Arabs state have kicked the Jewish people from their arab lands, why on earth Israel not to be JEWISH STATE. As Saudi Arabia,Yemen,Aden, and Gulf state, etc,.are arab land,ALL OF ISRAEL including the whole west bank and JERUSALEM is JEWISH FOREVER & EVER OUR G D IN HEAVEN IS WATCHING YOU,AND BEWARE DO NOT GO AGAINST THE ALMIGHTY WISHES.
35. Salma: "Our mothers brought us to love
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (09.19.10)
the life whenever we can..." We all unconsciously agreed with this statement until the series of events we identify as terrorism became so commonplace. The problem we Jews in Israel have and the problem those in western democratic countries have is our complete bafflement at the idea of suicide bombing and of children being brought up to honour "martyrdom" in the form of blowing up one's self in order to achieve a particular ideological goal. That is why we both fear and despise terrorism in its present form as well as those who advocate and teach it (terrorism), especially to children. Our next door neighbours, Hamas, is such a group and its movement means to increase terrorism and to continue to sacrifice the lives of their young while using/abusing the Muslim religion (Koran and Hadiths) as an ideological justification. So, we non-Muslims, question the intent and belief systems of all Muslims given the fact that international terrorist attacks have often come from seemingly well brought and well adjusted individuals. We, in Israel and in the West, are concerned. We think there are concerns amongst the mideastern Arabs (Muslims) but can't be sure who is and who isn't. We also wonder about the lifegiving and lifeaffirming voices of the mothers whom you speak of. Eventually, it is the responsibility of Muslims themselves to conquer the death wishes and terroristic aspects of Muslim societies in the mideast and in Africa. But we, non-Muslims, are becoming increasingly wary and a backlash is fomenting now in the West. We often hear Muslims not denounce terrorism and denounce those who perpetrate it but blame the West and Israel for such extraordinary problems. Many socalled liberals also refuse to place responsibility on those who perpetrate it. In the post-modern ethos, the western democratic nations, especially the USA, are always held to account for the vices of those in the Arab world. There are Muslim voices which speak out against this kind of thinking but I think they are hard to hear and may not be making any impact on the radical and soon-to-be-radicalized population of Muslims. In Israel, we are always wary after years of terror attacks on our people. I hope you can respond and allow us some of your insights.
36. Jews out of New Arab Palestine, but Arabs stay in Israel?
(09.19.10)
37. G-d Bless Lieberman!
Frank ,   USA   (09.19.10)
38. No 36
TAHRIR QUDS ALYAHUDI   (09.19.10)
NO 36 write QUOTE: Jews out of New Palestine, but Arabs stay in Israel. Sounds VER FAIR INDEED. It will more FAIR if the Jews to get out any future Palestine state, and the Israeli Arabs to go to their homeland in Arabia.
39. To # 25 and 33
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (09.19.10)
We don't need and don't want USA involvement in our problems with our neighbors. The difference between you and us, is that you express your opinions hiding in your houses, far away from risk, and we live here, we love our land and we are ready to die for it. Please keep your mouth shut!!!
40. # 25 & # 33
Birdi ,   Israel   (09.19.10)
Sam, you have got it all wrong. The US does not send millions of dollars to Israel. It gives Israel military credits that must be spent in the US buying US military products. Aid money from the US is/are credits which must be spent on US weapons.
41. Mark of Lewiston and cash flow
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (09.19.10)
Lewiston isone of the most prolific posters for Haaretz and its Islamist anti-Jewish tendencies. You should look in your own back yard for oppression and subjugation. Your BHO has ordered the citizens of Arizona to accept Hezbollah sponsored and trained narco-terrorism; your BHO promotes oppression of democracy seekers in Iran and Venezuela while continuing to support fascism and left-wing Stalinist dictatorial rule in the US; your BHO, who promised a transparent government, has created one of the most oppressive corrupt Chicago-style political movements in US history. No, the US no longer has British colonialism. But if BHO has his way, Chavez/Stalin style rule will take effect. In November, we the people will take our country back. By the way...who is this "they" you keep channeling? Or are you like BHO and his House Jews who attack everyone who has the audacity to disagree with their socialist/fascist agenda?
42. Christopher of Boston - Rich
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (09.20.10)
You seem to be channeling Charles Emerson Winchester III. And that is rich coming from someone in the Peoples Democratic Republic of Taxachusetts. Take your pick of any of the speakers at the "values" event in DC this weekend for "they." I will pray for you and for David.
43. #16 - not really fair for the majority to lose control
William ,   Israel   (09.20.10)
Is this the "new" type of democracy? Allow the minority to have majority control, along ethnic lines? Sounds a lot like the textbook definition of Apartheid to me. Unfortunately, the One-State option is gone. Arabs could have had the chance in 1948 but there has been too much animosity and tension to consider anything other than a 2-State solution along racial lines. It sucks and in a perfect world it would be, but there is many precedents for it in the world already as a means to give air and space to two sides at odds. Making one state will not solve a problem but simply give fuel to a fire, which many anti-Jew, anti-Israel proponents support. Which brings us back to the original point - who are the real enemies of peace, "Palestinian" citizens, or their corrupt leaders and foreign agitators with a personal agenda? I know what "Palestinian" citizens think because their fed up with the constant attacks on the IDF by foreigners that THEY have to pay for.
44. #27 - please explain the "difference"
William ,   Israel   (09.20.10)
After the illegal ethnic cleansing of 1948 that drove Jews out of Judea and Samaria, and Gaza, settlers today are little more than those Jews who are returning to claim land they inhabited anyway before the massive Arab war crime.
45. #26 - Gaza's siege is 100% legal per Intl Law
William ,   Israel   (09.20.10)
It's not done to hurt Gazans but to stop weapons flow and materials to a despotic terror group using it as a base to target civilians. Under Intl Law, Israel could tighten the screws hard beyond some restrictions today. Besides, per Oslo Accords, Arafat agreed that Israel will control air, sea, and borders until a viable, sovereign Palestinian State emerged. So, not only do you agree with breaking Intl Law but also the agreements that your own putrid leaders sign. In that case, why even make an agreement with your ilk? Further, Israeli Arabs *might* be in their homeland but that's debatable. Illegal economic migrants are not in their homeland, which does explain the massive Arab population growth in Haifa, Jaffa, etc. in the 1930s. It wasn't babies, Salma, it was illegal immigration. Truth is - JEWS are finally back in their homeland, whether its Haifa, Jerusalem, or Hebron!
46. #33 - Arabs get more money from US than Israel
William ,   Israel   (09.20.10)
So, I guess you can call the Egyptians, Jordanians, Gulf States, Iraq, AND the "Palestinians" as bastard children of the US.
47. 41 Christopher
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (09.20.10)
I will pray for you and David from Haifa.
48. Allegiance
Dr Yeruham Leavitt ,   Kiriat Arba, ISRAEL   (09.20.10)
When I was a child in the United States we had to begin every school day by pledging: "allegiance to the flag of the United States of America...." Is there anything undemocratic about that? (There are people nowadays who don't like the word God in the pledge. But that is another issue.) Shana Tova
49. #44 William , The difference is:
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.20.10)
