1. I am so glad that there are at least some
Vardina   (09.24.10)
Israeli Muslims like him. They deserve every support from the state of Israel in every field of life. He is the kind of Muslim that I am glad to have in my country. The rest are trash.
2. Kol Hakavod
Israeli   (09.24.10)
This just comes to show, that instead of complaining and asking for international sympathy, the local muslims can absorb into the country and live a real normal life. Kol Hakavod
3. how's that for an israel-basher's stereotype-bashing?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (09.24.10)
all too often do israeli arabs break the mold of stereotypers on all sides.
4. Zaid Horani
NYC Girl   (09.24.10)
He certainly deserves the country's respect and gratitude. Because unlike the other Golani soldiers (who are terrific in their own right), this young man has also had to overcome the negative reactions of his friends and family, likely making his decision even more difficult. I wish him every success.
5. God bless him
Esteban ,   Argentina   (09.24.10)
His represents the future, the real peace. We support you, like we support all the Jewish heroes of the IDF.
6. nice say
cfs ,   fr and dz   (09.24.10)
"[...]I live in a country where if you want to receive you also have to give," thats a good philosphia, i like it. Thats maybe the all life everywhere.
7. Together we're a strong world
Alexander ,   NJ, USA   (09.24.10)
He is a prime example of hope. I think this young man represents what peace would mean for Israeli's and the middle east. People working together instead of against each other could bring unimaginable prosperity to all the nations in the area.
8. One state for two peoples????
Cynic #2   (09.24.10)
May be this young Muslim soldier can convince the Jewish Israeli society that a secular democratic state where all religions can be tolerated and all citizens can be accorded equal rights. On the other hand, may be his fate will be like the Druze soldiers who served the IDF and received sweet discrimination on retirement!!!! Can you imagine 50000 Muslim soldiers in the IDF?? I certainly hope so. Onward Muslim soldiers.
9. Kol Ha Kavod
Zionoid Entitty ,   Occupied Toronto   (09.24.10)
A model citizen who should not be the exception but the rule. That he should be the only one out of 1.2 million people in this regard (as he says himself) is unfortunate.
10. Yes Kolhakavod to Zaid Horani..You see there are >
KATE ,   ISRAEL   (09.24.10)
You see there are some sensible Muslim Arabs who understand what is right,or wrong.Actually I felt tears of joy in reading this article. Wishing him the very best of good luck in the coming years, and pray more would follow in his footsteps.
11. Zaid Horani
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (09.24.10)
In other words throwing stones and burning tyres doesn,t provide one with real life skills ,but regimented disciplined army life certainly does ,good for him ?
12. Good ole mike sensible as ever.yes how is that for>>
JAMES ,   ISRAEL   (09.24.10)
How is that for an Israel-basher's stereotype -bashing? I wish many Israeli Arabs to break the mold and join Zaid Horani. If only this is just the beginning and not a one off ? I am thrilled to bits I assure you mike and how nice to read and hear of it today. G*D bless and keep you wife.
13. Esteban I too say G*D bless him..Instead 0f all>>
KATE ,   ISRAEL   (09.24.10)
Instead of all the to-ing and fro-ing withe theso-called peace process, this latest can achieve more than Abbas and even BB have tried over and over without success. May we have more Zaids in the IDF especially in the renown Golani Brigade. Finally one came, let us have many more.
14. Not to rain on everyone's parade ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.24.10)
... but while I think this is an extraordinary young man, the fact remains that he -- and, by extension -- his Golani unit -- might be incurring more of a serious threat than you realize. What were to happen, say, were other Moslems who do NOT wish Israel well to approach this young man and say "We have kidnapped members of your family. If you do not do [some dreadful act of violence] , we will kill every single one.?" It is not an inconceivable scenario. So while I commend this young man, I have to ask -- is putting him in a combat unit where he will learn many secrets really worth the risk?
15. Hag Sameah!
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.24.10)
# 8 Cynic, I guess you are born a cynic and will die in that state also…too bad, you don’t know what you are missing when the hatred disappears! This brave soldier is to be commanded at the highest level for his courage, his life’s choices and his determination. He represents the real strength the mighty IDF is made of. In his own words: “I explained to them that I live in a country where if you want to receive you also have to give” Way to go my friend, you decided to break from the mold of taking from Israel while complaining along the way. You have nothing to feel ashamed of and every reasons to “stand tall in the saddle” (English expression meaning to feel proud)
16. Many israeli-arabs serve in IDF
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (09.24.10)
He i s only one of many who volunteer to serve at the same time many jews are dodging the draft. Goes to show that Israeli-Arabs Identify with the state and join the effort to protect it.
17. This is all bull.
Brad ,   USA   (09.24.10)
I don't care what this guy has said. I don't care what this guy has done, or what his service record is. A muslim is a muslim. If a muslim is friendly, it's only for now. Even if he openly works against islamic terrorism, it's only for now. When muslims come to the conclusion that their "Mahdi" has arrived, they will all go nutbag. Then we will have no choice but to wake up, finally, and actually fight the war that Islam has declared on us.
18. :: No wonder
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (09.24.10)
The guy belongs to the Bedouin Muslim community that has a long history of serving voluntarily in the IDF mostly in special Muslim and Druzee units. What is commendable about him is choosing to be in a regular unit made up of 90% Jews.
19. Muslim fighter
Charles   (09.24.10)
I'm sure this is a unanimous sentiment, and so I'm only agreeing with others by saying it, but I will say it anyway. This is simply an absolutely superb individual. I doubt that such noble patriotism will become the rule rather than remain the exception, and I must sadly confess that I'm not particularly optimistic that we are all going to simply unite and get along. That realization, however, doesn't lessen the deed-- but only adds to it. To him I say, kol ha kavod brother.
20. Good man & proud to be his friend!
Avi Miller ,   NY, USA   (09.24.10)
Other Israeli Arabs should follow him & be proud of their Arab culture & be Israeli citizens!
21. #8 Cynic
Alon ,   Zug, Switzerland   (09.24.10)
Cynic, Not only are you a cynic, but grossly misinformed and ignorant. Israel is a secular democracy where all religions are tolerated. Unlike the 60 something Muslim nations who officially ascribe to Islam, Israel does not have an official religion. You are conflating The Jewish people with the Jewish religion. Even the Bahai's have set up headquarters in Israel.
22. Once a Muslim
Moshe ,   Kiryat Arba   (09.24.10)
Once a Muslim, always a Muslim. I wouldn't trust him.
23. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (09.24.10)
Druze, yes. Bedouin, yes. Christians, yes. How many Moslems?
24. great to read!
Ilana   (09.24.10)
Great for him. He is HOPE. It could be a lot different, he is proof. We are all very happy.
25. Instantly i loved this story of this fine young man ..
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (09.25.10)
but i am tainted with suspicion of his motives. No doubt he well is a true Israeli arab and it's not an oxymoron anymore, but i will watch this space and pray he is a credit to the I.D.F.
