1. settlements or piece
(09.25.10)
As it is highly unlikely that the PA is interested in peace but is really intent on the whole piece, we should definetely keep on with the settlements!
2. repeating a lie......
OZ   (09.25.10)
again and again, still doesn't make it true!
3. Explanations
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (09.25.10)
Somebody must explain Abu Mazen that he needs an agreement much more than us! He has no state, he is in peril of being brought down by Hamas. He is not wanted by his people. He is like all "palestinians" (read arabs) a false politician trying to make money and in love with power!
4. This man is as funny as he is delusional
Naor ,   USA   (09.25.10)
Who is he to be making demands? I don't know rather to find it funny or sad. I just don't get the Palestinians, it is in THEIR interest to make peace. Who stands to lose more, the Palestinians or the Israelis if peace talks break down? If they do no accept the Israeli proposal to make a state in the WB and Gaza without Jerusalem, than they will return to what little they have now. They should be grabbing any attempt to build their state, no matter what is offered. Otherwise they will remain under never ending occupation and it will be THEY who suffer. The deals being offered to them have steadily diminished over the years, from 1948 to the present, they have been getting less and less. If you do not accept now, you will continue to get less and less. Continue to claim all or nothing conditions, and you will get just that: nothing.
5. No acknowledgement of Israel's right to be, to exist!!!
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (09.25.10)
from the UN podium the diluted words of Mr. Obama, that Israel's legitimacy must not be questioned, and that the nature of Israel as the historic homeland of the Jewish people must be accepted by all. If he had done so, he would have caused Jews worldwide to go out of their way and say: Now we have a partner for peace. But he couldn't even hide behind Mr. Obama's verbal skirt to state that which is necessary, to accept Israel's legitimacy and its RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people. Yet, he mentioned countlessly in his speech the need of the Palestinian people to its independent state. In other words, he kept calling for the establishment of a Palestinian nation-state while refusing to acknowledge the right of the Jewish people to its state, the state of Israel. And this is the "moderate" person whom we are being told to trust...!!
6. Settlements or Peace? Settlements.
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (09.25.10)
Next question, please....
7. Humbug! Palestinians still believe in terrorism!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (09.25.10)
The Palestinians must choose between peace and the continuation of their "resistance to the occupation" - a euphemism for terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. The attacks have never stopped, and in fact they are increasing. The Palestinians have to choose between war or peace. They can't speak out of both sides of their mouth and have it both ways. Until then, construction continues.
8. "withdraws to pre-1967 borders"
Matityahu ,   Slovenia   (09.25.10)
Abbas has become a comedian!
9. freeze
David ,   Haifa, Israel   (09.25.10)
we froze for 9 months. we told them 10 months and come to the table. they said NO!!!! and NOT GOOD ENOUGH!!! Give up the right of return. You refugees can live in YOUR home NOT MINE! Recognize Israel as the Jewish home land. PERIOD. Or go away.
10. Very funny comments
Joseph   (09.25.10)
You say who is he to demand anything? Fine, build your settlements...then we will pursue a one-state solution and the return of all Palestinian refugees to this one-state which will be 50/50 Arab-Jew population. Is that what you want? Otherwise, the status quo is NOT sustainable...if Israelis believe they can have settlements and still maintain the occupation, then they are badly mistaken. The Palestinians will fight for their freedom, they will not lay down as Israeli seizes their lands.
11. Good Riddance to bad rubbish
Mike ,   Oxford UK   (09.25.10)
Abbas threatens to walk out if Israel doesn't capitulate to all his demands. It's not a crisis. This is how Abbas negotiates. Let him walk, he'll come back with his tail between his legs
12. Abbas:Israel muct choose
Frank Mazuca ,   Lakeland, Florida US   (09.25.10)
Does he mean he wants the West Bank to become part of TransJordan?
13. What a missed opportunity to finally accept Israel's right
Hannah   (09.25.10)
to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people, but true to their tradition, the Arab leader missed this one as well.
14. #10
Eyal ,   USA   (09.25.10)
You are getting boring. Keep fighting, we will see what you negotiate in 10 years from now. 1 state solution, funny, but a good dream for people like you.
15.  Has Arafat"s "Talmid", jettisoned everything ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (09.25.10)
16. Palestine from river to sea
Wissam ,   Palestine   (09.25.10)
NO negotiations NO talks NO surrender. One citizen One vote.
17. We See Through the Ruse
Dallas ,   Canada   (09.25.10)
Abbas and changing goalposts - now the opportunism about using 'settlements' is the excuse, thanks to Obama's focus on this non-issue. The real issue is at only 20% of Arabs in Judea and Samaria even remotely accept the idea of a Jewish state in the neighborhood. Maybe in a couple of generations, provided the culture of hatred and 'resistance' evolves into a society which focuses on nation-building, on what it desires to be, instead of defining itself as what it isn't.
18. Abbas must choose between Jordan and or Lebanon/Syria
(09.25.10)
19. Settlements and Peace, the Arab Vote
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.25.10)
...let the 5.6 million Jews, and the 8.5 million native Arabs, build anywhere in Palestine Israel, and let every adult vote, end the Apartheid now.
20.  # 6 Palestine will be Free - Now or latter? Later?
Palestinian ,   Yaffa   (09.25.10)
21. fence -apartheid ????
Galut ,   selah   (09.25.10)
Quote:'Israel is above the law. It expands settlements, erects apartheid fence,' =============== fence would not be there if your folks would stop your terror acts ...sucide bombs ,rockets and snipers ect
22. end the citizens' suffering in gaza?
galut ,   selah   (09.25.10)
Do a google search on the "GAZA MALL" then come back and tell us about the suffering it appears it is not as bad as they try to say it is....if they have a loaded mall full of goods.....?
23. To all Utopians as #16
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (09.25.10)
Take a cold shower and relax. Israel is here to stay. Palestine is Jordan, all the rest is just Hot air
24. Freeze part of Roadmap, is Quartet able to enforce it?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (09.25.10)
The Arab League is pushing this, since they are the real power behind Abbas now. The problem is Israel committed to Roadmap afew years ago but current Gov. is firmly against it. Is US willing to enforce Roadmap, which could lead to a change in Gov or a civil war. I think Obama has to enforce it or back off peace for now, while settlers want to keep stale and keep status quo until only A area and Gaza is all that is left for Palestinian state.
25. Right back to square one. Some old preconditions.
Faruq   (09.25.10)
the is no ''Palestine'' and there will never be one.
26. Abbas means :settlements or peace talks !
Salma ,   Palestine   (09.25.10)
27. Israel's choice: Security/survival vs. phony "peace talks".
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.25.10)
Israel had a choice to make and the Israeli electorate clearly made it. The choice is: security and survival versus the phony "peace talks". Security and survival versus an 8 mile waist, as the "peace talks" demand. Security and survival versus being inundated by rockets and hostile Arabs, as the "peade talks" demand. Israeli voters decimated the parties of retreat, building freezes and the phony "peace talks". That is why Meretz was reduced to just three seats. Recent polls show Labor would be lucky to win 7 seats in an election today. Israel has chosen wisely. Israel only lacks a P.M. with the courage to take Israel's decision to the world.
28. 'palestinian' incitement of hatred or peace?! Please.
Lee ,   Mnachester UK   (09.25.10)
why is their no preconditions on the 'palestinians' - why are they still using violent terrorism against Israel? This is the vital issue that nobody cares to look at. So there can be no peace, only pieces of Israel bit by bit...I SAY NO!
29. # 10
Naor ,   USA   (09.25.10)
You can pursue any "one state solution" you so desire. It will not happen. The only realistic outcome of the Palestinian's failure to make peace today, is that they will have less land to make peace on later. The construction begins tomorrow, fail to make peace now and you will get less tomorrow and every following day. The status quo will continue until you accept Israel's offer.
30. Abbas Demands & Israel Response
Max ,   Washington DC   (09.25.10)
Abbas demand that Israel cease building on lands in Judea and Samaria to be discussed and agreed to, before the terrorist murders and missile attacks from Hamas cease, is putting the cart before the horse. So far, the actions of the Palestinians are not that of a Peaceful People. In response to the recent brutal executions of Yitzhalk & Tali Ames, Kochava Chaim, Avishai Schindler and unborn baby, Israel should respond with building 5 new villages around Hebron, in their memory.
