31. Settlements or peace
Mark ,   USA   (09.25.10)
Let's play pretend. Say Israel meets all the conditions that Abbas and the Arab League are stating, in order to make "peace". Israel withdraws from all of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. There are minor territorial swaps. Peace at last, right? Wrong! Israel still has a population that is 18% non-Jewish, and continues to have a higher fertility rate than Jewish Israelis. In a generation, Israel is right back where they are now. A hostile population that once they reach parity, can legally vote Israel out of existence. The solution to this quandry? Regardless of where people reside, Arabs have citizenship of the arab state, whether it's called Palestine, Jordan, etc. Jews have citizenship in the Jewish state of Israel. There is no population transfer, only a citizenship transfer. People can return to where they previously lived. While this is the only alternative that works short of all out war, I do not think the Palestinians would be willing to accept this, because if they had truly wanted to share the land, they would have had a state decades ago. Their obstinance comes from the fact that their real desire is still the replacement of Israel with Palestine, from the river to the sea.

95% of the comments here are great examples of the greed that Israel has. You believe you are entitled to these settlements for some odd reason, which is one of the funniest notions I've ever heard. You'd rather keep on killing than give up the settlements that were originally theirs, shame on you all.

Iran attacks an arab nation, Israelis and Palestinians get together in order to fight the Iranian threat and in the end that's a base for both societies to want a 2 state solution.

Abbas will walk out of negotiations and could with the full backing of the Arab League go to the UN and declare a state based on the 1947 partition. If Israel continues with it's illegal expansion it is Israel who will end up with less

That is exactly right, Yehuda...Further more: Abas and his cohorts can't stress enough their demend for Israel to withdraw to the 1967 borders...But we have been there already...It is precisely because of all out war in 1967, when all the arab countries together attacked Israel, aiming to innihilate the Jewish state, that now we will not and should not and WILL NEVER give back again an inch of Jerusalem, Golan and West Bank....We have done that, been there, only to get more terror and emands. Until chamas and fattah will rule in gaza & WB,there will never be a state for the so-called pali people, but only a terror nest to terrorize and try destroy Israel...

Same old. Same old. Pathetic. The guy is not up to the challenge of peace.
37. Wrong headline
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.25.10)
Abbas did not say "Settlements or peace" Abbas said "stop building villages and we will start peace talks where, if you agree to all my demands including the destruction of Israel, there will be peace"
38. #33 alternative scenario
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (09.25.10)
Iran takes over Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Obama can't attack for fear of being called a Zionist. American economy enters tail-spin as most world energy controlled by Russian/Iranian/Venezuelan alliance. Iran doesn't attack Israel because they have nothing to gain from it. Israel gets leaders who aren't American lackeys and join the Iranians. No one cares about the Arabs anymore, certainly not the ones who whine all the time while getting money for no work. All of Judea and Samaria are liberated.

40. What Capital????
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (09.25.10)
Since no country ever existed there except Israel, he has a lot of gall making demands? Jerusalem will never be divided again. Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab country. The fence is there because of security, any look at attacks before and after, show the fence worked, and had nothing to do with Apartheid. The blockade in Gaza was started in response to Hamas attacks. So that covers all those repetitive lies. Now when do you want to talk about peace and stop the BS.

Since when do the losers dictate to the winners? The Palestinians should take what they can get and STFU.
42. 19 - you mean end the Arab states Apartheid, right?
L. Rose ,   Canada/US   (09.26.10)
The Arab states have a Muslim majority along with many other states in the world and no one refers to them as Apartheid states even though many are in fact dictatorships that suppress Christians, Jews, and other religions. Israel on the other hand has open worship. Yet, Israel is the only country told it can't have a religious majority. Europe and North America are predominantly Christian with Christian majority leaderships - so your comment reveals a huge double standard only applied to Israel.

Your idea is completely based on an illusion. One, the UN would laugh at such an attempt to try and reinstate the 1947 partition in which the ARABS themselves rejected, and which the Jews accepted. Two, even if such a ridiculous proposition was passed by the UN, it would change nothing on the ground. You think the Jewish State is just going to evacuate all its cities and citizens to partition the state? Keep dreaming. You can not take away the State of Israel from the Jews through military campaign, and you still won't do it through international channels. Face it, other than physically sending troops to kick out the Jews, they are going no where. And I'm sure there are plenty of Israeli soldiers just itching for you and your ilk to try such a stupid move! :)
44. No land no peace!
~~Lengualima~~ ,   USA   (09.26.10)
Land by peace?. One of the virtues of the human being is to learn of his mistakes. How many times has heard this promise the Israel's people?. When Israel handed the Sinai in 1979, not hear the same thing?. when retired of the Libano. was not the same with the withdrawal from Lebanon?. And Gaza, did not heared the same song. Land for peace many times, The today's reality is, not land not peace. The only reality that Israel must face today is, radical Muslim will never accept a reality that is called Israel. They will do all the necesary by any form, to achieve his dreams to erased the Jews from the Prophets's land. with the war was not possible. Now the tatic is different. But, the strategic is the same, beautiful words, promise of peace, turn Israel in a monster, while they are the doves of the peace in the air. Long live to Israel forever!

47. olive branch
David ,   USA   (09.26.10)
Abbas is extending an olive branch to Israel, and in the same breath stating that Israel is committing crimes, Israel acts above the law, destroys homes, and the list just goes on. Abbas is hoping that the US will make Israel submit to his hand. I think the Israelis can see through the president and his gang of the USA. obama can't even get it right over here in the US.
48. settlements or peace...????
Anna maria Sedda ,   italy-Rome   (09.26.10)
settlements..PA it is not interested in peace, their goal is to exclude israele...settlements or peace it's a big lie........
49. Time is Not on Your Side, Mr. Abbas
Joseph Goldberg ,   Gush Etzion   (09.26.10)
According to the latest census, 516,569 Jews live in the Golan, East Jerusalem and the West Bank. The annual birthrate is calculated at 5+%. which in ten years from now will result in a Jewish population of over 800,000, roughly 12% of Israel's Jewish population. Outposts will blossom into villages, villages will become towns and towns will become flourishing cities, Don'i betray your people again by walking out the door.
50. Before 1948, Jews were known as the Palestinians.
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (09.26.10)
Totalitarian, global Islam seeks to conquer Israel via lies and propaganda repeated over and over again. The Jewish newspaper, the Jerusalem Post was called the Palestine Post. The Jewish-founded electric company was Palestine Electric. The Palestinian Symphony Orchestra was all Jewish. During World War II, the British army had a Palestinian Brigade made up entirely of Jewish volunteers. After Jews migrated to Palestine in significant numbers in the late 1800s and miraculously transformed desert and swamps into rich, agricultural land, Arabs came in large numbers from Arab countries for jobs from Jews. The fact that the overwhelming majority of Arabs resided only briefly in Palestine is attested to by a one-time special UN decree: that any Arab who had resided in Palestine for only two years before 1948, and then left, would be considered a refugee and so would his descendants! Throughout history, people were never regarded as refugees if they had resided in a country for only two years because they were clearly citizens of other countries!
51. Racism considered Acceptable if it's Against Jews
Linda Rivera ,   New York   (09.26.10)
Racism is considered highly acceptable if it's against Jews. Holocaust denier, Abbas, financed the massacre of Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic Games. Why is he not in jail? Why is he highly respected and even invited to the White House, just as global terrorist, savage mass murderer, Arafat was. US/EU/UK/UN/PA/PLO and world elites' rabid Jew-hate is revolting. And very frightening. It was also unacceptable to Hitler and his vile Nazis that Jews lived in Europe.

By whose law or declaration, do you consider Israel's "expansion" in their own country illegal, daz? And if abbas walks out of negotiations it won't be the first or not even the second time...But who cares....The chips are definitely in Israel's court....The more resolve and strenght Israel shows, the more they are to gain as well as you too , little one in UK ....
