1. hundreds of thousands Muslims fought the Nazis
observer   (09.26.10)
Hundreds of thousands of North and West African Muslims assisted in the liberation of France from the German occupation and the French Vichy government. Among their ranks is a group referred to as Senegal’s Secret Soldiers, a group of Senegalese Muslims who played a major role in the liberation of Paris from Nazi occupation. Farther east, hundreds of thousands of Muslims enrolled in the British Indian Army. On January 1, 1945, there were 447,580 Punjabi Muslims in the British Indian Army. This number constituted 32% of the army’s troop strength, a percentage tremendously greater than the percentage of Muslims in the overall population. These Muslim soldiers were deployed in all of the major theaters of battle in the fight against the Axis powers and performed admirably. They were firmly supported by the political leader of the Muslims in India, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, a fervent critic of Hitler.

18. al-Husayni
observer   (09.27.10)
Such allegations about al-Husayni are a foul misrepresentation of the historical record and serve to dishonor the memory of all of the courageous Muslims who selflessly fought and died in defense of the European democracies, even though many of their own lands were still suffering under the yoke of European colonization. At the heart of these baseless and base allegations is the fact that the Palestinian Mufti of Jerusalem, Al-Hajj Amin al-Husayni, had close ties to the German leader Adolf Hitler, and even spent part of the war in Berlin. While this much is true, al-Husayni's sentiments were not those of the overwhelming majority of the Palestinians, to say nothing of the rest of the world's Muslims. To use al-Husayni's ties to Hitler as a means to defame and discredit Islam and Muslims as fascists is misleading and has to be challenged. In fact, there were several Palestinian brigades and tens of thousands of Palestinians in the British Army who actively fought the spread of fascism. The existence of these Palestinian brigades was more indicative of the mood of the Arab and Muslim masses than al-Husayni's actions. Therefore, when al-Husayni issued his call for a Muslim jihad against the allied forces his plea was largely ignored. The fascist jihad never materialized. The reason for that is simple. It had no significant support from the masses of Muslims. Like it or not, those 11 Druzim were Arab Palestinians.

Nazi Influence on the Middle East During WWIINazi Influence on the Middle East During WWII By David Storobin Global Politician | Wednesday, January 05, 2005 “Our fundamental condition for cooperating with Germany was a free hand to eradicate every last Jew from Palestine and the Arab world. I asked Hitler for an explicit undertaking to allow us to solve the Jewish problem in a manner befitting our national and racial aspirations and according to the scientific methods innovated by Germany in the handling of its Jews. The answer I got was: 'The Jews are yours.'” - Former Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini in his post-WWII memoirs. [1] "The Mufti was one of the initiators of the systematic extermination of European Jewry and had been a collaborator and adviser of Eichmann and Himmler in the execution of this plan... He was one of Eichmann's best friends and had constantly incited him to accelerate the extermination measures." - Adolf Eichmann's deputy Dieter Wisliceny (subsequently executed as a war criminal) in his Nuremburg Trials testimony
22. "Observer's comments #1 and #18
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (09.27.10)
Muslims fought on both sides, there were many who collaborated with Nazis in occupied North Africa and the Balkans just as there were many who fought for the Allies (as well as civilians who saved and protected Jews in places like Tunisia and Yugoslavia) Just as there were some Christian Poles who collaborated with the Nazis and some Christian Poles who saved Jews and fought against the Nazis. It's true that many North and West African Muslims from the French colonies in Africa as well as Muslims from British India contributed to the Allied war effort in WW2. It's also true that the Mufti, the leader of the Arabs in British Palestine allied himself with Hitler and raised divisions of Muslim SS troops.Additionally, as others pointed out, these brave Druze volunteers (1) were not Muslim--so why the comment about Muslim Senegalese or Bengalis and (2) in the British Mandate of Palestine, the majority of "Palestinian" volunteers to the British war effort were Jewish--few were Arab of any religion--these heroic Druze soldiers were the exception that proved the rule.
23. there are righteous
Thank you Mr, Bessis   (09.27.10)
people in this world. May there be many more.
24. yes there are muslims
Ilana   (09.27.10)
who are not evil. Yes in Spain they helped the Jews. The re-writing of their koran used wrong interpretations in many places-like in Saudi Arabia. They commit sins against their God doing this and it makes them pro jihad military style of extreme islam. An ancient koran found in Yemen shows differences. These early texts have no vowel markings or distinguishing dots, which means that individual words can have up to thirty different meanings. This can be used on purpose or by mistake...

During his caliphate, Ali ordered Abou al-Aswad al-Doualy to write vowel and dots for the quraan. So, it was very early after death of Mohamad when those were introduced while several many of Mohammad's followers who well memorizes quraan were still alive. certainly, quraan was not changed.
26. Muslims and antisemitism...
Salman   (09.27.10)
If you think that Islam's hate for Jews dates from Eretz Israel, YOU ARE WRONG. Search in Internet on THE HATE IN KURANI KERIM you'l find that it's only for JEWS. Or in turkish " KURANI KERIMDE NEFRETLER. It is written long time before today, it is in the blood and mind of Islam.
27. #21 Dieter Wisliceny
(09.27.10)
Hannah Arendt, who attended the complete Eichmann trial, concluded in her book Eichmann in Jerusalem: A Report on the Banality of Evil that, "The trial revealed only that all rumours about Eichmann's connection with Haj Amin el Husseini, the former Mufti of Jerusalem, were unfounded."[ Rafael Medoff concludes that "actually there is no evidence that the Mufti's presence was a factor at all; the Wisliceny hearsay is not merely uncorroborated, but conflicts with everything else that is known about the origins of the Final Solution." Bernard Lewis also called Wisliceny's testimony into doubt: "There is no independent documentary confirmation of Wisliceny's statements, and it seems unlikely that the Nazis needed any such additional encouragement from the outside' This is from Wikipedia; but it's all there in the Eichmann trial transcripts. To transfer blame for what the nazis did to the Jews unto the Arabs is beyond vile.
