1. Professor Yaron Ezrachi, you are uncertain of your identity!
LK   (10.10.10)
Professor Yaron Ezrachi, you and the other liberals are uncertain of your identity, no one else. Jews are not "uncertain" of their identity, and if you are, go live outside of Israel -the Jewish and democratic state. See if Arabs will take you and make you proud of living in a n Arab and democratic state.
2. I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States
adam eliyahu   (10.10.10)
America is most surely a democratic republic and requires loyalty oaths from immigrants and citizens. Requiring loyalty in no way contradicts democracy. On the contrary, it is very much a requirement for democracy to have any meaning.
3. If non-Jews will leave because of the "loyalty" bill
(10.10.10)
it would be the greatest bill Israel has ever declared. YIPPEE! It would be even better if secular Jews who don't approve of the bill would join those leaving. Then Israel will have the opportunity to eventually develop into a true Jewish state.
4. 100% right
marko ,   tel aviv   (10.10.10)
this is the first step, next will be freedom of speech and expression,we must stand up and stop it now before its to late
5. Actually the law is stupid cuz it's neither Jewish nor Democ
Shalom   (10.10.10)
Actually the law is stupid cuz it's neither Jewish nor Democratic. Like David in Judea said earlier: Momentarily it’s Atheist and Communist. They seem only to be fooling themselves with this law. On the other hand, now that they'll be a "loyalty of Jewish" law there might be some hope after all that they're working on the state becoming real Jewish.
6. Rally against loyalty oath
Yonatan ,   Jewish state   (10.10.10)
yes indeed every body who lives in Israel should pledge allegiance to Israel even the professed professors, and the parasitical artists should pledge allegiance to 'Jewish and democratic' state Amen
7. Jews should also be loyal to the state
(10.10.10)
no distinction
8. The howls of a dying breed - the left
Schreiber   (10.10.10)
Scared, indeed, that soon they'll become an irrelevant tiny speck of a minority in an increasingly Jewish state. I understand the Arab discomfort with living in a country where Dhimmis are in charge. This goes against their deepest beliefs and offends their dignity. Fine. So they should be offered every type of assistance for their volulntary emigration to a country of their choice.
9. Try to understand!
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (10.10.10)
This "professors" and "intellectuals" are afraid because they see their stalinist state is disappearing. In a democratic state, the will of the people decides the laws they will follow. This elitists are not democratic, they believe in stalinism which is also known as an illustrated dictatorship.
10. France is a French country - no problem, it;s only a problem
kate b ,   uk   (10.10.10)
If a Jewish state wants a Jewish state. Fascism is where a government treats a section of its citizens without the rights of others e.g. women in Arabic countries. No Jews in Saudi, Jordan and the other Pal states: this is Fascism. A Jewish state - brilliant, one same law for the Jew and the stranger and the TEmple mount will be yet again a place for all nations to worship, unlike now under Muslim WAQF, or Mecca which has NO NON_MUSLIMS.
11. IF I GIVE YOU RENT SUPPORT YOU WILL SAY ISRAEL IS THE BEST
Benjamin ,   singapore   (10.10.10)
LEAVE IF YOU CANT PLEDGE LOYALTY UNDIVIDED TO ISRAEL !
12. He's right, fascism is becoming the norm.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (10.10.10)
There is no constitution to protect the rights of Israeli citizens, but yet, they must pledge to give their lives for the state. What is the government of Israel offering it's people, other than constant war and high taxes?
13. it a matter of WHICH fascism you prefer
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.10.10)
would you rather have a loyalty oath to a democratic jewish state or anti-democracy islamic fascists actively and freely undermining this democratic state in the name of, and under the protection of, true democracy? if this is a precursor to accepting some palestinian refugees and/or palestinian relatives from the territories, i can completely understand it (though i don't agree with it). however, in this part of the world you HAVE to choose your fascism. for me, i prefer any fascism that isn't islamic.
14. The REAL Fascism threatening Israel is from the Jewish Left!
szamuel ,   budapest   (10.10.10)
The REAL Fascism threatening Israel is from the Jewish Left! and from their islamofascist comrades in fascism
15. Why is it a fascist law?? These leftists are insane
Sami ,   NY   (10.10.10)
Dear Profs, do you have any actual arguments that explain why this law is different from what happens in Europe, why it is "fascist" ? Or are you just looking for any opportunity to scream and whine?
16. it's ok for the states but...
martine ,   ashdod   (10.10.10)
not for us? Why? Israel has to be different from the other countries? I don't understand those people who insult our country because we want to do what the other do. If they are not happy with that, they should leave Israel and go to their friends palestinians and arabs lands. They will taste how it's good to live in Israel.
17. Well duh? And the Pals aren't fascist and apartheid?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (10.10.10)
Crikey - the Pals have a law on the books calling for the death sentence if an Arab sells their home to a Jew. Oh no, but we MUST support a Palestinian state as the legitimate expression of Palestinian nationalism! No matter how racist, inhumane, sick and bloodthirsty it is. I personally think the pledge of allegiance is a stupid concept without a solid constitution to back it up . (for you non-Israelis out there, no, Israel does not have a constitution and as a result there are very few civil rights for Israelis - be they Arab or Jew). Phooey and the left AND the right on this one. We need a constitution and direct election of the Knesset.
18. #12 couldnt stop laghing
Omri ,   Israel   (10.10.10)
Honestly were do you get that stuff?
19. Swimming with the current
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (10.10.10)
Since long time the train was rolling against the will of the people, now it will roll with it.Bravo.
20. The Beilinists are barking at the Moon! Let them!
Frank ,   USA   (10.10.10)
21. A question
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (10.10.10)
Calls for violence by the extreme-Left such as Yaron Ezrachi are not unknown. The question is only whether the government will use the dreaded YSM stormtroopers against the extreme Left, like they did against peaceful Right-wing protesters.
22. To #12
Frank ,   Canada   (10.10.10)
Do you regard Canada as a fascistic country because of its oath of citizenship? I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.
23. fascists?
avi ,   ny   (10.10.10)
It's ironic that the pais cutters could call anyone else fascists.
24. intellectuals & artists always apologize for Israels existe
zionist forever   (10.10.10)
An oath obligating individuals wanting citizenship to swear an oath of loyalty to a Jewish and democratic state is quite reasonable. Israels national identity is officially that of a jewish state and it is democratic so what we are demanding is these people swear an oath of loyalty to Israel for what it is officially. Nobody is holding a gun to their heads saying swear or else. If these people have a problem swearing this oath of loyalty then feel free to go home. Israels left is trying to undermine Israel's identity as a jewish state. They want to pull down each wall of jewishness one by one and the intellectuals and artists are always the ones to be first inline to criticize. Doesn't matter if its the peace process, an art festival at Ariel or an oath of loyalty they are always out their on the streets whinging. The politically correct leftists who constantly apologize for the very fact that Israel exists should be reminded that most countries have an oath of loyalty that new immigrants must swear and mostly based on the countries chosen national identity. There are muslim countries, there are christian countries, there are republics, there are monarchies. In the UK new immigrants must swear an oath of loyalty to the queen. Should that be condemned because a republican might want citizenship and does not believe in the idea of royalty? Tell the Brits that its wrong to make potential citizens swear loyalty to the queen and they will say its our country, our country is a monarchy and head of state is a queen but if they don't like it then they don't have to take out citizenship. Only in Israel do we apologize about our national identity because we don't want to force non citizens to swear an oath of loyalty they might not like. The fact this bill passed is a victory for nomality over political correctness As an olleh I swear loyalty to Israel as a jewish and democratic state.
25. Loyality: good sign of Maturity
Thomas ,   Dixieland USA   (10.10.10)
Finally Israel has reached mature statehood like other Nation States in the world. The hodge-podge, Trockyst, Stalinist, anarcho-Communist Jews, the last vestige of the 1917. Bolshevik revolution are drifting to the boisterous fringes. These Leftist Jews yelling fascism still dreaming of a totalitarian Marxist state where anyone not loyal to the Communist Party will be banished to the Gulag to never return. All your "Great Leaders", genocidal murderers like Stalin, Yagoda, Mao, Trocky are dead and you will disappear along with their sinister legacy as well.
26. It is the Protestors Who Are Destroying the State
Dav Lev ,   Burbank.CAUSA   (10.10.10)
I took an oath here in the States when I accepted a civil service job. Ever since grade K through 12, I pledged to our flag. Some people burn the USA flag in protests. But it is legal to burn...per SC. Israel, seems to be a broken state..in so many ways. 5.5m Jews. 1.5m Arabs..going in various directions. The bottom line: either it is a democracy..thus allowing for elections..and CHANGE legally, or it will be destroyed from within by these academics, media types, and liberals to a fault. One can simply either not recite the oath or not. During Christmas, I never participated in singing carols...just stood their quietly.. Israel is a Jewish state/state of the Jews, or secular Jews..whatever. There are 22 Muslim states..where these protestors can move, if they really want to experience a dictatorship. Try being a Jew in Arabia, or Yemen,or the Sudan.or Lebanon for that matter. These people are off the wall.
27. Israel is on it is way
Sam ,   ME   (10.10.10)
to truly become part of the middle east.
28. If leftist Jews will be succesful in their plans
Marek ,   Praha   (10.10.10)
a time will come for Jews to pack their baggage and move to Uganda. But I am in doubt if they will be welcomed with an outstretched arms there.
29. G-d save the Queen
Hannah ,   NZ   (10.10.10)
So what? I didn't stand like a shmuk and pledge allegiance to the Queen in front of 500 others candidates for Citizenship in New Zealand? Have I labelled NZ as Facist? Why Israel should be any different? I came to a Christian country and I had to fit in. My Jewish holidays I take as annual leave.
30. I pledge allegiance
steve ,   Israel   (10.10.10)
I pledge allegiance to the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state.
