Obama's idea of "security" is his "word" (LOL!) that the United States would "assure" Israel's security. It must be taken in the context of Obama’s desire to see Israel return to pre-1967 borders, and that just isn't going to happen. But that's not the issue here; the issue here is Israel's quid pro quo demand that there will be no negotiations with anyone about anything absent an unambiguous declaration on the part of the "Palestinian" leadership (Abbas) recognizing the right of the State of Israel to exist and that the State of Israel is a Jewish state. As to security -- Israel saw just how much the United States "assured" Israel's security in 1973. Badly-needed spare parts were not delivered until after Israel had encircled the entire Egyptian Third Army, cutting their supply lines, and Israeli troops had crossed the Suez Canal, poised to march on Cairo with nothing standing in its way. There was also the matter of Israel having pushed the Syrians back to Quneitra, with nothing standing between Israel's guns and Damascus except the scattered remnants of a soundly whipped, decimated Syrian army. Thanks, but no thanks. Israel would rather look after itself, thank you very much. And no amount of U.S. bullying and interference in the internal affairs of Israel, a sovereign state, is going to change that. Ever. I note, too, for the record, that while the statement of the U.S. State Department necessarily came at the instruction of the president, it would have meant considerably more had Obama called the press conference and issued the statement personally. He's not man enough to do it, though. Let's not give him too much credit -- he's worried about the November midterm elections, which are right around the corner, and he knows that Americans strongly support Israel and are not terribly fond of terrorists; nor are Americans particularly interested in so-called "improved ties" to the Islamofascist world. If he DOESN'T know, he's in for a really big surprise come November 2nd. In any event, Israel has served notice that it is standing its ground; Netanyahu issued a quid pro quo, the United States had no choice but to endorse that quid pro quo, and the ball is now in the “Palestinian” court. The outcome is predictable: as with the previous three opportunities to take advantage of a two-state solution, the “Palestinians” will refuse, because they are not interested in a two-state solution, they aren’t even interested in an independent “Palestinian” state. They are interested in taking over the State of Israel, and exterminating and/or expelling the Jews. It is at the core of the charters of each and every one of the thirty-odd “Palestinian” organizations, each of which purport to be the sole true representative of the “Palestinian” people. That’s not going to happen, either. Israel isn’t going back to Square One. The “Palestinians” have sown the wind for over sixty years; they lose the right to whine when the time comes to reap the whirlwind. It would appear that the time has come for the “Palestinians” to reap what they have sown. Too bad for them.
