seadog1946 ,   Shooters Island, NJ   (10.14.10)
"willing to adopt the American law word for word." Israel is a democracy? The US is a republic.
2. Pledge of Allegiance
George Washington ,   Washington, DC   (10.14.10)
I pledge allegiance to the state of Israel, the homeland of the Jewish People, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under G-d, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. It sounds good to me, GW
3. the pledge
Palestinian ,   USA   (10.14.10)
nothing is going to work my Friends ,we have the right of return to the people they kicked out ...not the right of return of the people left 5000 years ago . this guy is a criminal ,should be arrested not recieved after he insulted 2 of your FM (the france and spain ) .... hey Bigots ...send us the Map with your borders in strait lines .... 5. 3 - your "right" ended when you lost the war
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (10.14.10)
by the way, if you became a US citizen or will become one, you must swear loyalty to the state. it is perfectly reasonable for any state to require that from anyone wanting citizenship. there's nothing wrong with pledging allegiance to israel and, as the husband of an arab israeli, the honor to support this democracy is mine.
6. #% - in the US, the Pledge of Allegiance is very
seadog1946 ,   Shooters Island, NJ   (10.14.10)
different from the Oath of Allegiance.
7. #3 You can shout "right of return" in their ears daily...
Bassem ,   Palestine   (10.14.10)
But it won't change the fact that they look at you as an animal "who ran away" and who has no right to refuse refugee status and instead return home to his land and living. The only way is to kick them out - BY FORCE. It might not happen in our lifetime, but they also know that their beloved apartheid state is living on borrowed time anyway just look at how they cry and yell about Ahmadi approaching their border. Borders you said? They'll never show you anything, they want everything from the Nile to the Euphrates - just listen to some of the Ynut here admitting this in the open, they claim Jordan is Jewish land !!

bibi ,   USA   (10.14.10)
This guy is an idiot. The allegiance in America is to the flag. and to the republic. Not christian White, Blacks or moslem or jews. I hope you get Liberman as Pm. If you think people hate jews now wait until they get to see liberman.
10. To #5
SAM ,   Chicago USA   (10.14.10)
Your right, we pledge loyalty to the Us not a religoin, that is what makes America inclusive. Israel wants to make Muslims and Christains adhere to their religoin. This is not a loyalty oath to Israel but to the Jewish religion.

Facts, although uncomfortable for you I'm sure: 1. Israel is not apartheid; all religions are represented as are many other groups (eg Vietnamese that israel accepted after the Vietnam war). Most Arab countries accept only Moslems; eg Saudi Arabia where non-Moslems are not allowed anywhere near Mecca. The Arab countries are the apartheid ones. 2. Israeli PM Barak showed a border map to Arafat, as did PM Olmert. No response to either, only violence. 3. No one ever claimed Jordan is Jewish land. It happens to be a major part (approx 72%) of the original Palestine Mandate; ie Jordan is 'Palestinian'.
12. Word for Word?
(10.14.10)
The US Pledge of Allegiance reads: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." and the US Oath of Allegiance (which people say when they become US Citizens says: "I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God" If Foreign Minister Mr. Liberman adopts these two word for word well then we cease being Israelis and become Americans right? or was there something I misunderstood? I'm just asking! ;o)

Chaya ,   Tel Aviv   (10.14.10)
There has NEVER been a time when there were no Jews in Eretz Yisrael from the time when Joshua led the people into the Land. It is you who are the newcomers. Matter of fact, you are a made up people. Even Yasir Arafat said so.

Sceptique ,   Paris, France   (10.14.10)
The Palestinians have no "right of return" as such a right does not exist in any country except when a local law exists. The Palestinians have been paid a hundred times for considering themselves as "refugees" under a specific racist and sexist definition by the UNRWA. Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people, where all those who respect its laws and nature are welcome.

M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (10.14.10)
Well, I assume you were joking. That "under God" in the pledge was added in l954 after the McArthy mess. Since it's a problem for some Atheists, it'll probably come out again. Maybe they can replace it with "under the sky," or some such. Being a naturalized citizen, I, too, had to swear that Oath.
17. Right of return
Sceptique ,   Paris, France   (10.14.10)
is specific to Israel. There is no such right in international law and Palestinian cannot claim any such right. Moreover, in 20 years, there will be hardly anyone who can claim such a right because of age attrition. Don't dream you'll have the 18% left of the British Palestine Mandate: you'll have to be happy with the 82% you already got.
18. Oath Of Allegiance
Simcha ,   So.Cal.USA   (10.15.10)
Why does everything dealing with Israel have to be a battle? It's perfectly reasonable for any country to require an oath of loyalty by their new citizens.A pledge that all countrymen recognise and accept. Israel is a Jewish country. A country for the Jewish people does not exclude others as long as they are loyal to the State Of Israel. America was founded on Judaic and Christian principles but we do not exclude others for citizenship as long as they are loyal to the U.S.A.

No Chaya, he said 5000 yrs.
20. All citizens should take the oath
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.15.10)
and not just non Jewish olim.
21. Allegiance
Bibi ,   USA   (10.15.10)
In America Everyonr pledge Alligance. IT does not matter who and waht you are. we do that every morning. But in Israel only none jews pleadge allegance. Israeli arab has to pledge Alligaince. Don't you think this is racist.
22. Chortle
Johnboy ,   Sydney, Australia   (10.15.10)
Yet another indication that Israelis don't know the difference between the Oath of Allegiance recited by all wannabe American citizens and the Pledge of Allegiance recited by most US schoolchildren. Hint: the PLEDGE of Allegiance is not a law, being merely jingostic doggerel. It is the OATH of Allegiance that is the analogue to Lieberman's dinky little law, and Liberman would choke on his own beard if he was asked to adopt THAT word-for-word.
23. #12 makes a good point. Can't Liberman tell the difference..
(10.15.10)
between the United States and Israel? Does he not know that Israel is not part of the United States? Israel can't even be in line to be part of the USA because it is not an officially declared territory of the United States. But well what can one really say other than: Yes, Mr. Lieberman is a fascist but he's OUR fascist! and Yes, Mr. Lieberman's stupid is showing but well he's OURs so we'll have to either accept him as is or enlighten him!
24. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.15.10)
Actually ... Israel is not a republic. By definition, a republic is defined by charter (in the case of the United States, the Constitution). Israel does not have a Constitution (then again, neither do a lot of Western states). Other than that, I'm cool with it.
