1. No to right of return because Israel is a Jewish state
Paul Freedman ,   USA   (10.15.10)
The Palestinian negotiators have revealed through their naked insistence on the so-called Saudi Peace plan without change that they wish to dismantle Israel as a Jewish state, as indeed a non-Arab state, and press on for two states for one people--a Palestine for Palestinians and a state temporarily called Israel that becomes Palestine West after mass repatriation of Palestinian relatives, cousins, and friends of refugees. It is not that a Jewish state precludes right-of-return but that the the right of return is intended to dismantle Israel as it exists. As Abbas himself noted, if the Palestinians merely wished peace rather than a jumping-off point for their anti-Jewish and anti-Zionist revanchist project, they could have and would have signed an agreement. Negotiations with anti-Zionist rejectionists is suicidal.
2. Palestinian Principles
Ehoop ,   UK   (10.15.10)
Abbas confirms that he hasn't given up on principles, such as the aim of destroying Zionism worldwide, which appear in the Palestinian National Covenant and which, had he given them up, would have enabled him to sign peace with Israel. It's good to know in the West what's important to him because the Palestinian leadership has always sent out messages to its electorate (probably the wrong word to use in the case of Abbas) whuich differ from those published here.
3. The Straight Skinny
Dan ,   Titusville, FL   (10.15.10)
With Abbas pronouncement it is universally recognized that he will settle for nothing less than the destruction of Israel. No Palestinian from 63 years ago who VOLUNTARILY left their land is alive today, erg there os no need for any right of return. As Abbas made it plain that there is no solution less than the destruction nad deaths of Jews that he will accept, it is time to build out All of Jerusalem. Build out all of the West Bank. BUILD - BUILD - BUILD and to hell with the Arabs. In the past 1400 years they haven't accomplished 0.000032% of what Israel accomplished in the past 63 years. Build Bibi, Build!!!!
4. Israel insists on doing what was agreed by the parties:
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (10.15.10)
Direct talks without any preconditions!! Sadly, the US that was part of this agreement is silent and does not insist that the Arabs must return to the negotiating table as agreed in advance. Yet, at the same time the press secretary of the State Department can't answer a simple question with a yes or no after having been asked three times the question: Does the US recognize Israel as a Jewish state? I can't believe this would have happened in any other administration...!! Jews, please, take a note of it: It is ONLY the Obama administration - not even the Carter administration - that can't bring itself to refer to Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people (at the UN Obama only referred to Israel as the 'historic homeland' but not the PRESENT ONE!!). And when asked, Obama himself has made only reference to a "two-state solution" and NOT to a "two-states for TWO-PEOPLES solution".
5. fight them, cry, whine
pini ,   usa/israel   (10.15.10)
were used to it and we could care less and the world is slowly caring less
6. Hadash chairman Mohammed Barakeh
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (10.15.10)
appears to be representing not his own Arab constituency but the Palestinians who are not part of Israel. This seems to be typical of Arab Knesset members. The Arab Israeli soldier profiled on Ynet said as much with regard to Arab MKs. In other words, we have a number of MKs who, in reality, represent a constituency which does not reside in Israel and never will. They make no contribution to the state of Israel nor to the Arabs who vote them in. That's how it looks from where I'm sitting.
7. Obviously, if he does not recognise Israel as a
Harry Wright ,   UK   (10.15.10)
Jewish state, then he will not recognise any "agreement" he makes with this non-existent state. So, he negates the rationale for any talks, OBVIOUSLY!!! Recognition and mutual acceptance and respect is the ONLY foundation for any meaningful talks. Let Obama go butt his head against a wall because, OBVIOUSLY, he did not do an in-depth study of this issue when he made this a priority in his fledgling presidency. Unfortunately, the only way to solve this is a clear defeat of either one of the parties. Iran recognises this and USES this as the first step to other bigger things. Once they get past this, they can fully focus on the bigger things - and they are already laying the groundwork for these. When the West does not support Israel, it hastens the conclusion of this phase by emboldening Iran. Phase 1 = Israel Phase 2 = Europe Phase 3 = US and the rest of the west All 3 have one thing in common - enemies within.
8. That's okay -- we knew it
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.15.10)
... which is why Israel endplayed their incredibly stupid asses to begin with. Checkmate. Congratulations. The "Palestinians" have shot themselves in the foot yet again. Or -- depending on your point of view -- the "Palestinians" have screwed the pooch one more time. You'd think the "Palestinians" would have figured it out by now -- it's been what, sixty-two years? What a terminally stupid people! Good thing they're about to exit the gene pool ....
9. Sarah you're great!!
(10.15.10)
10. common sense?
Josh ,   Canada   (10.15.10)
According to this, Abbas' idea of peace is to accept Israel only as a Palestinian state? One must wonder is Abbas' intentions on the creation of a Palestinian state or the de-establishing of a jewish state? The demand that they recognize Israel as a jewish state is a good way to see which one he wants.
11. No population exchanges?
Nathan ,   LA, USA   (10.15.10)
Does that mean that he wants all of the Arabs of East Jerusalem kicked out before he takes that semi-city as his capital?
12. the truth comes out
nadav ,   tlv   (10.15.10)
the truth about arab-muslim rejectionism comes out; nothing has changed since the 3 Nos of the Khartoum declaration. israel and the world must force the arabs to acknowledge the jewish Nation's inalienable right to sovereignty in their ancestral land. Only after this occurs, we can discuss peace...
13. NO RECOGNITION
MOHSON   (10.15.10)
Abbas who is a very saavy lawyer and arab nationalist, though slim on courage, was explicit. So as lieberman said, there will be no peace treaty. if abbas takes unilateral action, so will israel. End of story-forget about oslo, beilin, rabbin, peres, olmert, barak-they tried for an illusion which does not exist in arab dna for 2 main reasons- 1) PLO are not indigenous people, rather an assortment of jordanians, eghyptians, syrians and lebanese. 2) PLO has no interest in a state as they are autocratic mafia gangs sprinkled with islam except behind closed doors. 3) Principal motivation of arabs is to reverse 48 loss.
14. Abbas lies, and the left begs to believe
Christopher ,   Boston, MASS   (10.15.10)
Lie 1: The PLO NEVER recognized Israel. JUST READ THEIR CHARTER Lie 2: It was never a call for a "Jewish State but a "State of the Jews" just like he wants palidom to be a "State of the Palestinians" Lie 3: Abbas and Barakeh claim to be "moderates" yet continue to say IN ARANIC that the "criminal Zionist entity" must be destroyed"
15. Abbas opposed to population exchanges, so Jews stay?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (10.15.10)
If Abbas is against population exchanges he is saying he is against Israel keeping the large settlement blocks and that Jews can stay in the (eventual) Palestine. No other interpretation is possible.
16. Right of Return - Get Over It - the Past is the Past
Dallas ,   Canada   (10.15.10)
Just as the Misrahi Jews have been quietly integrated into Israel, and all surviving groups displaced in Europe as a result of WW2 were eventually integrated into their new lands, it's now up to the Arabs to acknowledge how they have been using the "Palestinians" as political pawns, cashing in on their limbo state and uncertainty, for over 60 years! Outrageous! Time to call the Arabs on this sick game. Fair is fair, any reparations must be balanced against the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Arab/Muslim countries. There are no one-way streets, and it's time for the Arab world to become adults now.
17. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.15.10)
Abbas is not a lawyer. He is a graduate of the "Patrice Lumumba Friendship University." Not Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Cambridge or Oxford. Patrice Lumumba Friendship University. Where, I imagine, doubtless he majored in terrorism, because that has been his vocation for a very long time. Patrice Lumumba Friendship University. LOL, LOL, LOL!
18. At Least Hamas si Honest, Abbas plays a Fools Game
izzie irgun ,   zion   (10.15.10)
In as much as i hate hamas at least those guys tell like they see it .. we know where they stand. Abbas is nothing more than a lying cheating phoney who talks peace but won't do what ti takes to exeucue . In any trade, sports, poltics, business when you ae discovered, you are done .. and now is abbas. its time to forget peace and get ready for war. its coming and it stopped by lenanon yesterday. when things get going abbas will get taken down as next time there will be no break between gaza, west bank and lebanon. its all enemy terrirtory History will define Abbas as a grand fool and the palestinians will be another population who leader led them to pain and suffering instead of redemption.
19. #13 Abbas not a lawyer - but a anti-Zionist soviet PHd
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (10.15.10)
To set the record straight, Abbas entered graduate studies at the Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow, where he earned a Candidate of Sciences degree (the Soviet equivalent of a PhD). The theme of his PhD dissertation was "The Other Side: The secret relations between Nazism and the leadership of the Zionist movement". His supervising Professor was KGB officer Yevgeny Primakov. (from Wikipedia)
20. So maybe we should give back the land
Golani ,   Mi Ami, Israel   (10.15.10)
Let's say we do give back all land that belonged to Palestine before the 1967 war. That may not be a bad idea since there was no Palestine between 1948 and 1967. The only Palestine that was, was Palestine that the Jewish people lived in. So if we give back the land, there is no land to give. Makes sense.
21. Abbas-No recognition
Brod ,   USA   (10.15.10)
We know why. Because the ultimate goal of the PA Islamist-Jihadists is the destruction of Israel as stipulated in their Charter, Maps and School-Textbooks. Israel should continue building and building in the Land of Israel. Get 2 or 3 million or more Jews to live in Judea and Samaria. The Land of Israel is the Historic Homeland of the Jewish Nation since ancient time. Just say NO to the Pagan usurpers, marauders and squatters.
22. Perfidy of Oslo Perfidy of the Left
Joe K ,   Silicon Valley, CA   (10.15.10)
Abbas has pronounced the death of any reconciliation between the Arabs No One Wants and the Jewish State. It has always been the Arab aspiration to undermine and do away with the Jewish State in their midsts. The PLO charter was never amended, the Arabs feed their children vicious hatered of Jews with mother's milk, yet the suicidal left soldiers on their 'righteous' march to national suicide in a hallucinatory pose of moral superiority that boggles the mind. Claiming the "moral high ground" as if delusional idiocy is a proxy for superior reason. THE PEACE PROCESS NEVER WAS ANYTHING BUT AN ILLUSION IN THE MINDS OF THOSE WHO WANT THE JEWS GONE, INCLUDING MANY JEWS!! THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES. GET IT YET?. Stephen Covey talks about negotiations that are either Win Win or No Deal. This is NO DEAL. It's time to Speak Out against Arab Lies. No recognition of Israel as the Jewish Homeland mean no recognition of the Arabs that No One Wants as a political entity. End this madness. Say the Truth out loud. Recognize the no win trap that elitist arrogance and stupidity has put our nation in. Oslo was, is and will always be PERFIDY. Look the word up. Let your blood curdle with contempt at the stupidity of those who entrapped us with our implacable enemies in a process designed from the beginning to destroy Israel. Vomit the Suicidals out of Power. Save Israel from them. And think again about "Jewish Genius" if this is the position our "leaders" have put us in after coming home from a 2000 year journey of blood and tears. Bibi and Lieberman aren't the problem. They are part of the solution. Peres, Beilen, Barak, Livni, Olmert......they are the problem. Leftist delusional political imbecility. Shame Shame Shame.
23. Want peace? Pull the plug on UNRWA
GZLives   (10.15.10)
Enough is enough ....
24. Hamas, Fatah and Obama
AlbertoGA ,   St.George, USA   (10.16.10)
I said this over and over. Hamas want the destruction of Israel yesterday. Fatah want this ASAP. Now the only thing to do is to get rid off Obama and his Utopian admin. It is clear now to the Jewish voters in the US that it was a folly to expect anything to the Circus "talks"and freeze.
25. Abbas
Juan ,   Spain   (10.15.10)
When on earth is Abbas and the people he claims to represent going to realise that they are the defeated in a war which they started. When is Abbas going to get real and admit he does not represent Palestinians, but some arabs that happen to live in Judea and Samaria. The Gazans in Hamastan just hate him and will never negotiate any peace with anyone. Muslims will negotiate a peace and then renege on it, like they have done so many times before. Netanyahu, please do not give in to Obama, Israel will persist much longer than Obama.
26. An Exercise In Futility!
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville USA   (10.16.10)
What the Palestinians want is their own state and another” bi-national state” into which they will send up to 4 million "refugees" under the ludicrous "Right of Return." By insisting that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a "Jewish State" it thwarts their Machiavelian goal to eventually control both states - one all-Palestinian state - and the other (Israel) to which a potential 4 million Palestinian refugees hope to return, effectively destroying Israel as a Jewish state. Even if Abbas does recognize Israel as a Jewish state (it will never happen), his word is worthless. They are still Arabs and as long as Israel exists and as long as there is a Jewish presence in Israel, there will be conflict. It doesn't matter what Israel does or what concessions it makes, none of it matters. What does matter is Israel's survival as a sovereign Jewish state and whatever Israel has to do to ensure that happens, so be it.
27. Gaza to Egypt, W Bank to Jordan=
steve ,   philadelphia pa usa   (10.16.10)
No Palestine since there never ever was a Palestinean State. It is a figment of the imagination. No deal, now or ever.
28. Abbas knows that recognizing Israel as a jewish state.......
Galut ,   selah   (10.16.10)
..... will earn him a bullet with abbas written on it.... just the nature of those that undergird the PLO & Hamas.... unfortunately those pushing the two state solution willfuly ignore this and push irsrael to give concessions...
29. Use it!
Paul ,   Israel   (10.16.10)
The Palestinian campaign to delegitimise Israel in Europe and the world are done by allying themselves with the Left ( in which they don't really believe, but exploit), and harnessing their cause to the political correctness that these organisations propound, crying oppression. Just one problem: The Left believes that all peoples should have a right to self-determination. And here The Palestinians reject the right of Jews to self-determination! This article and Abbas's own words reveal the Palestinians for the fakes the really are -calling for the destruction of Israel by all means including terror and violence, while crying and whining about how badly they are treated, as defenseless innocents. Israel should use this, play on it and emphasise it wherever it can. In addition to changing the focus - away from the settlement issue onto a more basic one, and thereby putting the Palestinians on the PR defensive - it will also help to expose the "Left" - either as pathetic suckers who bought into the whole Palestinian defenseless victims plight story/ hoax, or as closet anti-Semites who have found a politically correct vehicle to espouse their hate and prejudice while maintaining their charade of morally righteous people. However, will the World Press, which is traditionally anti-Israel report this, or will they "spike" it because the truth doesn't suit their mindset or their readership?
30. Abbas is Anass, why keep up this game?
David ,   Hartford USA   (10.16.10)
There is no chance, ZERO, of any Palestinian state using the '67 borders- just won't happen. If Abbas keeps wasting everyone's time, there won't be a Palestinian state using the '73 borders either. Mr. Abbas, please know that the world really doesn't care what happens to you and your people. Only your 'Arab League of extraordinaryly Selfish Self-Inflated Poobahs' seem to care- as if they are playing a never-ending bridge game. We don't care, Europe doesn't care. As a matter of fact, your League doesn't care. Why not surprize the world, and your people, and tell them, "Let's try PEACE and see what happens!"
