If Israel is not the national homeland for the Jews, then the non-existent "Palestine" cannot be the national homeland for the Arabs who call themselves "Palestinians". Back in my young days, when the newspapers reported about the "Palestinians" they meant the Jews. Mr. Abbas's refusal to recognize Israel as the Jewish State has only tangential political reasoning. It stems from the fact that Muslims believe in the concept of Ooma: that their religion comprises a geo/theo/political state whose boundaries do not exist. To recognize a Jewish State" would mean legitimizing Judaism. That they cannot do. Don't feel badly about it, as Judaism (and every other religion) regards the others as invalid, and itself as "the only true way". Perhaps the real answer to peace is to abolish religion and all other 'splitter' beliefs. Good luck.
