1. Is Israel really so bad?
John ,   Carmiel   (10.22.10)
Mistakes are always done in wars, let's see the mistakes done by NATO in Serbia in 1999: April 5, 1999: Bombing of Aleksinac The 13th night of air strikes included the first major NATO mistake when an attack on a barracks on the southern mining town of Aleksinac resulted in missiles striking a residential area. Serb TV reported at least five dead and at least another 30 injured when the three missiles fell 600 m short of their target. The missiles struck apartments, an "emergency centre" and a medical dispensary, TV reports said. Commenting on the incident, Air Commodore David Wilby of Nato said "It is possible that one of our weapons fell short of the target. April 12, 1999: Grdelica train bombing NATO's attack on a railway bridge hit a passenger train, killing 14 and leaving 16 injured. The Belgrade-Thessaloniki train had been crossing the bridge near Leskovac, southern Serbia as the air-launched missile released several miles away reached its target. April 14, 1999: Bombing of a refugee column On April 14, during daylight hours, NATO aircraft repeatedly bombed refugee movements over a twelve-mile (19 km) stretch of road between Đakovica and Dečani in western Kosovo, killing seventy-three civilians and injuring thirty-six-deaths Human Rights Watch could document. The attack began at 1:30 p.m. and persisted for about two hours, causing civilian deaths in numerous locations on the convoy route near the villages of Bistrazin, Gradis, Madanaj, and Meja. April 23, 1999: Serb Radio and Television headquarters bombing One of the largest incidents of civilian deaths, and certainly the largest in Belgrade, was the bombing of state Serbian Radio and Television (RTS) headquarters in Belgrade on April 23. As a consequence, sixteen RTS civilian technicians and workers were killed and sixteen were wounded. April 27, 1999: First Bombing of Surdulica At least 16 civilians were killed after two NATO missiles hit a residential area in the southern town of Surdulica. May 1, 1999: Bombing of a civilian bus At least 23 people died when a NATO missile aimed at the Lužane bridge north of Priština hit a passenger bus. May 7, 1999: Cluster bombing of Niš NATO confirmed that a cluster bomb aimed at an airfield in the Yugoslav city of Niš hit a hospital and a market, killing 14 civilians. Local officials said that a further 60 people were injured in the daylight attack which left unexploded cluster bombs lying in gardens. May 7, 1999: Chinese embassy bombing A salvo of JDAM GPS-guided bombs struck the embassy of the People's Republic of China, killing three diplomats. CIA director George Tenet later admitted in congressional testimony that the CIA had organised the strike and that it was the only strike of the campaign organised by his agency, though he still claimed it was accidental. China has never accepted the US explanation for the incident. May 14, 1999: Bombing of Koriša At least 100 civilians died after NATO bombed what it said were "legitimate military targets" in the village of Korisa, southern Kosovo. Footage broadcast by Serbian TV showed charred remains, including at least two children, smouldering homes and burning tractors. May 19, 1999: Belgrade hospital strike A NATO bombing attack led to the deaths of at least three patients in a Belgrade hospital. Parts of the Dragiša Mišović hospital, near a barracks in the Dedinje district, were reduced to rubble. NATO admitted a missile aimed at an army barracks in the Dedinje district, which is close to the hospital, went astray.
2. This inquisition has got to stop.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (10.22.10)
Enough with the second guessing, the questioning, the endless investigations. This is PC madness. War is war - people get killed in wars. War creates conditions of confusion, that's why they say, ''the fog of war.'' If this series of witch-hunts & scapegoating of the IDF continues, we will completely undermine the morale of our military. Do we want a military paralyzed by political correctness? This is exactly the aim of people such as the infamous Goldstone, to create conditions in which our military cannot function, to undermine our ability to defend ourselves. No other country in the world is held to such standards.
3. no.1
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (10.22.10)
Good posting John but you should mention Nato/American forces in Afghanistan who send the drones against the coward Taliban fighters who like Hamas hide amongst the civilian population and plant IED,s anywhere ,resulting in the deaths of not only the Nato/American forces but ordinary Afghans travelling to and fro ,yet these Islamic killing machines have the chutzpah to denounce these drone attacks ?
4. Comes to find out Goldstone was pretty much on the money huh
Sam   (10.22.10)
5. IDF WAS ATTACKED FROM THAT BUILDING
(10.22.10)
THE ATTACKERS IN THAT BUILDING WERE CIRCLED FOR OVER 5 HRS AND WARNED TO STOP. THE ARABS REFUSED TO STOP FIRING AT THE IDF. IDF WARNED THEM BOMBS WILL FALL. THEY REFUSED TO STOP FOR 5 HRS. FINALLY FOR THE SAFETY OF THE IDF AND TO END THE WAR AS IN ALL WARS....ISRAEL DROPPED BOMBS. GET THE STORY RIGHT. IT WAS 9 YEARS OF 10,000 BOMBS THAT THE ARABS FIRED ON ISRAEL...WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO FORGET THAT.?
6. regrettable yes
sleepless   (10.22.10)
but not on purpose, not directed at the family and not desired by the soldiers or Israel. Unlike Farag, family of terror victims in Israel do NOT wish such suffering upon every family in Gaza. I guess that sentence summarizes the huge difference in culture, religion and mentality and epitomizes the problem. They want Israelis to die. The more the better. Europe and the U.S. are quiet.
7. Wars in general
Moses Mafora ,   South Africa   (10.22.10)
its unfortunate that everytime the is war innocent people get killed, innocent people get injured BUT don't forgett Hamas uses human shield, they might have misled IDF in believing that the building was a military target.
8. #1
jj   (10.22.10)
and this absolves Israel's guilt, how? tu quoque is not a defence.
9. #6
jj   (10.22.10)
if it was on purpose or not isnt really at question here, so I'm not sure what you think you're arguing here. It's about reckless use of force and a disproportionate civilian casualty count vs. military objective achieved.
10. from one who was there
proud "miluimnik" ,   israel   (10.22.10)
I was an officer who fought in gaza under his command- Col. Ilan Malka "gibor israel"!!!!
11. #9, got a quiet southern border
Danny   (10.22.10)
so the military objective was achieved. If you want to complain about civilians tell Hamas not to hide amongst them
12. I must say JJ
Ilana   (10.22.10)
I am rather enjoying the relative peace and quiet in Sderot compared to the last 9 years. Not perfect but much better. My kids can play outside, walk to school-GO TO SCHOOL, go to extra curriculat activities and at night they sleep in their own beds and in a real bedroom. I would say, the military objective was achieved. If needed, should be done again! Purposefully attacking to murder civilians, which includes kids and elderly, makes the game very dangerous. Oh! and if someone breaks into your house to murder your kids, please use proportionate force. Slap him on the cheek and request that he kindly leave.
13. # 2
Hertzel ,   Tveria   (10.22.10)
You are 100% correct !!!
14. i must say #12
jj   (10.22.10)
that you sum up the usual bloodthirsty vitriol of many here. either way, your opinion has nothing to do with any of the issues at hand. if laws were broken, they were broken. to repeat; tu quoque is not a defence. shalom! oh and one more thing, id like to direct #6 to your comment about "Purposefully attacking to murder civilians, which includes kids and elderly" he said "Unlike Farag, family of terror victims in Israel do NOT wish such suffering upon every family in Gaza" oh the sweet irony.
15. Ilana
jj   (10.23.10)
The quote of mine- was in reference to Gazans killing innocent civilians in ISraelis! We do not ever want to to kill innocent civilians. I am in total agreement with comment 6. Every single word, letter and comma!!! My opinion has everything to do with issues at hand! BTW, what is your definition of disproportionate or proportionate for that matter. And you avoid referring to those parts of my comment that you, well, prefer ignoring. Funny how you chose to interpret statements in the way you did. Shows a lot...
16. well said Ilana
Lizbeth Rymlan   (10.23.10)
I, unlike jj, understood exactly who murders civilians, kids, babes and the elderly!! What a narrow and twisted mind jj has to so badly misinterpret your comment!! Oh the SAD irony
17. sorry I switched names!! comment 15 is from me
Ilana   (10.23.10)
18. Time to question Palestinian commanders
Brian Cohen ,   Peoples FrontofJudea   (10.23.10)
Before everybody out in talkbackland gets all huffy and puffy about the IDF, let's have an investigation of Palestinian commanders. Who are the commanders who sent the gunmen to shoot and kill four Israeli civilians last month? Where is Goldstone? Silent, as he was before he got paid the big bucks to produce his Gaza report. Who knows, maybe he's gone back to handing out death sentences to Blacks in South Africa. Where is Amnesty? Where is HRW? Where is ACRI? Where is Peace Now? Where is B'Tselem? The Palestinian policy, both Fatah and Hamas, is to attack Israeli civilians. Human rights groups long ago decide that the Palestinians have immunity from human rights laws. They decide that Palestinians can kill Israeli civilians and nobody will demand trials of the Palestinian commanders involved. In fact, the Palestinians can kill their own people too (thousands of them) under the guise of "collaboration" or any other excuse - and nobody cares. It's time for the world to start caring - and start investigation Palestinian commanders.
