1. Ok, so why .. won't attack?
Shahab 6   (10.25.10)
Just PR to brag about, hope you go to bed happy
2. No doubt...
Archamedes ,   CT, South Africa   (10.25.10)
A facility such as that must have scores of evacuation and emergency protocols in place in the event of an accident. The fact that there were such a large number of deaths implies that the event was sudden and on a large scale, hence sabotage seems assured. It is highly unlikely that local groups alone could have pulled this off considering the security of such a facility, without external help and the likely 'helping hand' is undoubtly that of the Mosad. What I am more curious about is whether they were directly or indirectly involved. I would suspect the latter. If it was the former, it would be a serious escalation in the eyes of the Iranians indeed. Either way, the fact that the Iranians did not respond heavily clearly indicates that they are not interested in a full out conflict with Israel at the moment and will downplay and spin any such events as Syria did after their reactor was attacked. It is not in Iran's interest to attack Israel as their leadership is obtaining far higher gains at the moment by milking the cold war-like status beween the states. I furthemore suspect that this operation was a trial for larger such sabotages, possibly even at the Natanz facility. Bombing such a site by air is almost impossible unless all out war were to be declared, but sabotage, even to the scale of planting explosives, seems the most practical route as there is no obvious smoking gun. I think Israel has now taken the decision to 'attack' iranian sites, but will do so using sabotage. I will not be surprised to see many more such events in the near future. So far we have seen two events in close proximity targeting Bushehr and this missile base, either Natanz, Arak or academic nuclear sites are probably next. One thing is for sure, the fact that this second attack has been carried out means this is now firmly a wave in a new policy line, not just an isolated slap in the face. I also suspect that the methodology behind this trend will be to cause increasingly more harm with every stage. Stuxnet, although effective, was rather benign as no deaths would have resulted, this attack was significantly more aggressive and the next I suspect would be quiet major as far as casualties are concerned.
3. Everyone knows that Mossad...
(10.25.10)
doesn't do things like that. It was probably the Kurdish minority trying to rise up.
4. ITS ALWAYS THE JEWS AKA MOSSAD
(10.25.10)
5. "Le Figaro" staff ...
Linda ,   Poltava, Ukraine   (10.25.10)
... have watches too many James Bond movies.
6. I hope mossad is even 1/3 as good as the world claims it is!
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (10.25.10)
Did Le Figaro give any proof as how it came to these conclusions or was the article just written after a few "ballon" of good red wine which released their wild imaginations.
7. More likely to have been caused by Stuxnet than the Mossad!
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (10.25.10)
Stuxnet is a worm that doesn't actually do anything too infected Windows computers, because they're not the real target. What Stuxnet looks for is a particular model of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) made by Siemens (the press often refers to these as SCADA systems, which is technically incorrect). These are small embedded industrial control systems that run all sorts of automated processes: on factory floors, in chemical plants, in oil refineries, at pipelines--and, yes, in nuclear power plants. These PLCs are often controlled by computers, and Stuxnet looks for Siemens SIMATIC WinCC/Step 7 controller software. More here http://tiny.cc/stuxnet
8. Israel is not responsible for bombing the bases, but
quotes from Israeli ,   talkbackers   (10.25.10)
Saudi Arabia's cooperation in coordination with the United Arab Emirates. That is what is written in Persian Blogs.
9. #2 - , it would be a serious escalation ?!
michael peterson ,   london UK   (10.25.10)
Iran wants to build nuclear bombs and has threatened to wipe Israel off of the map! How much more serious could it get? Stuxnet, although effective, was rather benign as no deaths would have resulted, this attack was significantly more aggressive. Stuxnet is still operating and even the top experts in the world say that .. Stuxnet is essentially a precision, military-grade cyber missile deployed early last year to seek out and destroy one real-world target of high importance – a target still unknown. One of the last codes Stuxnet sends is an enigmatic “DEADF007”. Then the fireworks begin, although the precise function being overridden is not known. It may be that the maximum safety setting for RPMs on a turbine is overridden, or that lubrication is shut off, or some other vital function shut down. You sadly know next to nothing about Stuxnet and misinformation is pehaps even worse than bad information :-( Please check post #7
10. The Blame Game
Brod ,   USA   (10.25.10)
Blaming Israel is the typical crap of the dark forces. It is instigating the Islamist-Jihadists in Iran to fire salvos of missiles at Israel. Meanwhile, Israel should not wait as a sitting duck to their missiles. To survive Israel has to defend itself decisively.
11. no.8
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (10.25.10)
Even while we,re blogging the Sunnis of Egypt and Saudi Arabia are holding joint military exercises up north close to their respective borders ,in order to combat the Shiite madness .
12. Of course it was Mossad
(10.25.10)
what else can you expect from an organization that's responsible for climate change, aids, earthquakes, ...
13. Who Cares Who Did It
Brazen   (10.25.10)
someone else should BLOW up ALL iranian nuc sites especially the secret ones, shhhh dont tell anyone iran has secret nuclear facilities.
14. Mossad Shmossad - sooner or later Israel will get it hard
quotes from Israeli ,   talkbackers   (10.25.10)
What Israel got up till now, in all the wars - was only small-scale. Israelis do not know what real war is. This BTW is why they are such chauvinists: in the absence of negative feedback, eventually every system falls out of synchronization.
15. My money's on Stuxnet
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.25.10)
Israel has an extremely long reach, whether by its air force, its human intelligence on the ground, its listening post in the Negev, the Mossad or through a computer worm. Iran WILL be stopped. Nice to know that Israel can cripple Iran without firing a single missile. And now it would appear that even if it wanted to, Iran cannot launch any missiles because Israel can turn them around and drop them on Teheran. If you've followed the Stuxnet story, you will discover that every day, something new, elegant and extremely lethal has been found in the Stuxnet software; some computer experts are even saying that trying to scrub the computer makes the virus that much more lethal. I guess it is true: the G-d of Israel neither sleeps nor slumbers.
16. Likely the Kurds with some outside help
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (10.25.10)
CIA and Mossad may have helped the Kurds in this but for either group to act directly would be foolish and dangerous at this time. I believe release the Stuxnet virus was a mistake since now Iran can disassemble the code and learn from it.
17. Well If It's True
Simcha ,   So.Cal.USA   (10.26.10)
Why doesn't Frances Le Figaro shut up and let them get on with it?
18. Is this good or bad?
Persian CAT   (10.26.10)
I it is true that Mossad was behind the "incident", then Israel should brace itself for a few "incidents" here and there. If Mossad's involvement is not true, then someone at the Le Figaro is cooking you goose. Watch out.
