1. It would probably help ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.03.10)
... if the Arabs could manage to refrain from displaying the "Palestinian" flag from the minaret of a mosque in Safed. Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt.
2. Re #1 Non sequitur
Andrew Brehm   (11.03.10)
There Arabs that display flags from the mosque in Safed are not the same people as the Bedouin who came to Safed to study. Refusing to rent out flats to Bedouins is discrimination and racism, plain and simple. The rabbi calling for it should be ashamed of himself. Judaism dictates that we treat the strangers among us the same as we treat fellow Jews. And then targeting Bedouins is even more vile. Bedouins are discriminated against all over the Middle-East. At least in Israel they should be regarded as fellow humans. The Bedouin students even acknowledged the persecution of Jews in those same cities. They clearly see themselves as like the Jews rather than like the Arabs. What has the world come to when women can no longer feel safe in a city BECAUSE OF THE JEWS!!!
3. #1 Sarah B
Israeli arab ,   israel   (11.03.10)
The right wing is the one that started all of this if it wasnt for his discrimination against us there would have never been a scuffle and that flag would have never showed up. Dang sarah i have many jewish friends and they dont have this hate that you seem to have your nothing but a racist and an obstacle to peace and dont go on with a rant on what happened in the past people need to change now and you are against it because your a racist
4. Andrew Brehm (2), spare us.
sk ,   USA   (11.03.10)
The Bedouins are building illegally all over Israel, and the Israeli government is doing nothing about it. It doesn't matter of we're talking about "Bedouins" or run-of-the-mill Arabs. They fully intend to take Jewish land, and if the area becomes "mixed," you can bet that Jews, including Jewish women, will not be close to safe. If you doubt this, I recommend you spend some time in any "mixed" area like Lod.
5. Indicative of Safed
Mizrahi ,   London   (11.04.10)
Unfortunately the city has turned into a Haredi enclave, with religious Olim heavy in number. I am not stating that this is negative, however this is part of the bigger picture of Haredim ousting secular practices and opinions. Gone is the city's charm and much much of its beauty, I must add.
6. #3 are you being intentionally hypocritical?
Daniel ,   Formerly Israel   (11.04.10)
OK, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you just got carried away with your emotions like we all do sometimes, but still look at your post. First you blame the past actions of Jews for the display of the Palestinian flag, but then you tell Sarah not to talk about what happened in the past. You also tell her not to rant in a sentence that you start with the word "dang" and in which you call her hateful, a racist (twice), and an obstacle to peace - that sounds like a rant to me. And since, as you note, there are many tolerant Jews and, judging by the electoral strength of Balad and Taal Ram, there are many intolerant Israeli Arabs, why is it the Jews and not the Arabs that have to change? P.S. Arabs and Jews who dislike each other cannot possibly be racist, since we are the same race.
7. Miss Light Unto the Nations never fails to disappoint me
Sultan ,   Jeddah   (11.04.10)

8. rather arab neigbors than chariddem

9. Racism in the name of religion
Robert ,   Brisbane, Australia   (11.04.10)
The racist republic of Israel shows its true colours.
10. Sarah and SK - Bedouin in IDF, where are you?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (11.04.10)
I live here in Israel. I even live in Gush Etzion. I also deplore the institutionalized racism in this country, especially against those who serve in the IDF - including the Bedouin. Don't like my opinion? Get your butts on a plane and come here and talk to my face about it. I'll invite some Bedouin soldiers to join us so you can tell them to their faces that they're not worthy of equal rights in this democratic country. Or maybe you prefer the good 'ol USA where not so long ago people wouldn't rent apartments to Jews?
11. to #8 that is great to hear that, go try to live
ghostq   (11.04.10)
in Joffa, I heard wonderfull things on Ajamy neighbourhood. unless you just talk.
12. to #3 so how will you explain the riots in Akko
ghostq   (11.04.10)
3 years ago, how much did changed in arab society toward religious jews, after all that is what caused the riots, what make it so different here?
13. Religious wack jobs must go
Sheik Rattle & Roll ,   USA   (11.04.10)
These religious nutcases have no idea how much harm they are doing to the State of Israel. If Israel wants continues support from the west it better start acting like a true democracy and enact laws that treats all of it's citizen the same and persecute hate crimes even if it came from a rabbi who should know better not to sow seeds of hate. A true prosperous democracy protects all of its citizens regardless of religion. Religion in my eyes is the root of all evil when zealots whether Arabic Christian or Jewish become fanatics. Get the religious nutcases out of government now! separate government from religion. Every government that has a religious faction in it has problems.
14. Safed! a free or not to be!
kevin j.lee ,   Glasgow/UK   (11.04.10)
Why! not issue a Fatwa! and be done with it!. Oh I forgot wrong religeon, but so similar in so many ways! that the same result can be achieved. Jews! are we not righteous?.
15. media double-standard
Ari   (11.04.10)
When Arabs in Acco, Jaffa and Jerusalem get uppety and start threatening Jews who move into "their" neighbourhoods, everyone in the media tends to blame the Jews for "upsetting the local demographic balance" - yet when the tables are turned suddenly upsetting demographics doesn't matter, and it's the Jewish residents who are being "intolerant." Something here doesn't smell right... And what about the Jewish students in Jerusalem who are similarly harassed by Arabs? Where are the articles about that?
16. #10 thank u for reminding all that Bedouin serve in IDF!
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem of course!   (11.04.10)
All I will add is that my son serves with Bedouin and Druzim in the same IDF unit. They are all wonderful young men and it is always a pleasure to host in our home! To others get over yourselves, come to Israel and see how it really is...it will surprise you!
17. to #16 I checked, not all bedouins serve the idf
ghostq   (11.04.10)
it depends on which tribe they came from, and these students didn't serve the idf, so let's stick to facts.
18. I live in Sfat, this story isn't news
Sean ,   Tzfat   (11.04.10)
People get along here. yes, there was trouble recently with the dati'im and the aravim but it's over. Ynet is simply pushing for a story and you are buying it.
19. no.18
hebrew prophet ,   israel   (11.04.10)
But where oh where is Rap Artiste ,Law rence of Tzfat as we would like to hear his views ,that,s if he,s concentrating for once?
20. #3 - nice try, but your racism oozes from you
William ,   Israel   (11.04.10)
We DO remember Israeli Arabs running into the streets, attacking Jews, and waving "Palestinian" flags just after the 2nd (failed) intifada began in 2000. That's a whole 10 years before the Right wing decided to march (briefly) in Umm Al-Faqm. And in those 10 years, we've seen more and more anti-State, anti-Jew activities in your cities, including the lynching of an iDF soldier who was disarmed and handcuffed after going on a shooting spree. Your leaders, including Zoabi, actively work to undermine the State, to block Israeli Arabs from participating even a little bit through National Service, but demand the most services despite being the population that pays the lowest taxes by percentage. It was Israeli Arabs who demand these services but routinely attack Bezek repairmen, fire fighters, and policemen when they come to your aid. You are right about one thing - "People need to change", and unless your population accepts equal responsibility as well as equal rights, expect to be more sidelined as a threat to ALL citizens, not just Jews.
21. #8 - rather haradim then myopic Tel Aviv Leftists
William ,   Israel   (11.04.10)
22. #9 - hahaha - compared to Australia and Aboriginals
William ,   Israel   (11.04.10)
Israel is a multi-cultural paradise. I don't remember a moment when Aboriginals ever tried to kill Aussie civilians or destroy the State, but it didn't stop you from some atrocious, dehumanizing actions against them, up to today.
23. #17 I checked not all Israeli Jews serve in the IDF
(11.04.10)
it depends on which tribe and/or Yeshiva they come from, so ghostq let's do stick to the facts!
24. What's next?
Israel ,   Texas USA   (11.04.10)
What a bunch of nonsense, how many predominant Jewish cities had been taking over by the Arabs, by renting apartments or buying properties in 60 + years of Independence, I give you the answer NONE. Bedouins help the State of Israel in every war including the war of Independence, WHAT will be next that this Orthodox Rabbis will prohibit rent or selling properties to Jews that are not Haredim.
