1. Definition needed.
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (11.09.10)
Perhaps this honourable minister could define what exactly is Zionist art. Or is it something similar to communist art?
2. Scraping the barrel.
Aric ,   Netanya, Israel   (11.09.10)
This woman is a shame to Israeli cultural standards. She seems devoid of any understanding of the true nature of what is a democracy. Can she define "Zionist Culture"and differentiate it from facist culture. How about it Limor ?
3. Livnat sounds like Soviet nomenklatura.
berlonski ,   berlin   (11.09.10)
4. israeli socialist realism
nadav ,   tlv   (11.09.10)
what she wants to encourage is art that is rooted in the now passe socailist realist school, which was spoon fed to Israeli for decades under the fascist leftist Labour regimes. Israeli culture is more than the pro-palestinian issue. Livnat and many Israelis are realizing that the EU, Leftist NGOs and other entities are deliberately offering prize money to Israeli artists who slander zionism, the State, or portray Israel's existence as a mistake or crime against the so called "palestinians." We all know an israeli artist will NEVER receive a prize or any kind if he wants to portray Israel in a positive light or even if he/she simply wants to create art that is NOT tied to the Arab-Israeli issue. She is doing the right thing! I agree with her100% and I am an atheist/secular Israeli, who happens to believe that Israeli culture is multi-faceted and not just based on the conflict with Arabs!
5. why should govt fund silly unnecessary art & not yeshivot?

6. The Artistic

7. The Artistic Temperment & Immaturity
Zionist Visionary ,   US-Israel   (11.10.10)
Artists naturally think outside of the box and use their imagination to challenge boundaries. Many times the artist loses site of the purpose of the ability which is meant to stir emotions and thoughts without beating people over the head with the point. This usually fails among the immature, who become enamered with the concept of anarchist perspectives and an overzealous love for ones own mind and ideas. Thus kind of misguided, self-important anomaly can manifest in silly ways, where the artist loses sight of their responsibility to remain neutral in their art. So it is with this silly bunch who bites the hand that feeds them, get involved with issues unsuited for their gifts and irresponsibly express overly-emotional perspectives which reveals their weakness and lack of discipline as an artist should. Cut off the boycotters and encourage them to enter politics if they think such causes are important enough to drag art through it's mud and filth. It's common, since most people who declare themselves artists are just ehoists looking for attention or skimming by life on their bellies as lazy bums. I agree that the government has no place funding artists who openly oppose them. Why the he'll would anyone try to force someone else to accept a generous gift if they don't like you and your ways. There are many other countries out there who accept this undisciplined type of 'artist'. Let them go to Paris...it's full of failed artist/philosophers who solve the worlds problems at corner cages everyday.
8. Do the artists have to perform
Larry ,   London, England   (11.14.10)
in Ramallah? It's in Judea and Samaria isn't it? So it's part of Israel?
9. Where is "anywhere in Israel"?
Carl Rosenberg ,   Vancouver, BC   (11.20.10)
If Israeli artists are required to perform "anywhere in Israel" to received state funding, exactly what territory would this include? Any of the West Bank settlements, including Hebron? As far as I know Israel has never formally declared its borders, and hasn't formally annexed the post-1967 occupied territories (except the Golan Heights and the West Bank).
10. Error in my previous talkback
Carl Rosenberg ,   Vancouver, BC   (11.20.10)
I meant to write at the end, "Except the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem"
