... murder as such is a terrible thing, I cannot see a good reason to impose an additional punishment of total isolation in this particular case. Prison is not a hotel in Eilat , and life imprisonment is a severe penalty by itself. He is not a pedophile or a rapist; the latter two categories are much better candidates for solitary confinement, IMHO.
2. Vanunu
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.15.10)
He deserves no better than Vanunu (18 years) and, in my opinion, he deserves worse.
3. oh would it hurt his little feelings to say he's sorry?
poor diddums ,   can't go out to play   (11.15.10)
4. murderer
David ,   Haifa Israel   (11.15.10)
he murdered a sitting PM. He brutally shot another Jew to death. He should rot in jail for the rest of his life. he should not be allowed to have children. he should not be allowed to have any rights as a jew... he is no better than a murdering muslim thug.

9. dear larisa, he murdered israel's elected leader
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (11.15.10)
she acts like he is in prison for crossing the street in the wrong place. no, he murdered the democratically-elected leader for the purpose of changing the political reality that he didn't like. that is about as serious of a crime there is, and he should be punished in the most harsh manner punitively AND as a means of deterrent. there must be zero tolerance for a crime like this because of the irreparable damage it has done to the state. give amir no comfort or respite because of what he has done. show some mercy if he shows remorse for what he has done (and not for the way he is being treated) but never allow his ideological doctrine to leave his own mouth again.
10. Dear Larissa
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (11.15.10)
Maybe you should consider his (can't even put down his name - like in Harry Potter series - the one that can't be named) solitary confinement as protection for his life. Try to remember what happened in the 60's (yes, I know you are too young, but it is written if you look it up) when Oswald supposedly killed Kennedy. .......
11. what Rabin failed to do because of Amir is what Bibi is now
Yehuda   (11.15.10)
doing and that is putting us all in solitary confinement by surrounding us with terrorists in our own land.
12. #4 and other hypocrites
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (11.15.10)
Is he no better than a murdering Muslim thug? Then treat him like you treated Samir Kuntar. Samir Kuntar kidnapped 4-year old Einat Haran and her father Danny. When Kuntar saw he was going to be captured, he shot Danny before smashing little Einat's head with his rifle because he wanted that the last thing she saw was her father's death. Kuntar was captured and treated with respect by his jailers. He was allowed to socialize, get married get an education and was never asked to change is ideology. At the young age of 46, Shimon Peres pardoned him. As of this writing, Kuntar is happily living as a hero in Lebanon.
13. Oh no! What will the conspiracy theorists do now?
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (11.15.10)
Amir: "What I did" Amir's father, Shomo, said ..."What difference does it make if he murdered a prime minister? Murder is murder. ... I regret what he did, but he doesn't."
14. In many countries he would have been executed!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (11.15.10)
He should have been tried for treason as well. No matter what you beliefs are and whether or not you agree with the government you have NO right to kill anyone because of your hatred! His "wife" is just a stooge being played by extremist right wingers who put their fanaticism ahead of the country and endanger the survival of the State of Israel and its people. Israel is a democracy and we change the government by election and not by the bullet.
15. Beware of Israeli Justice
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (11.15.10)
The way that Israel's justice system is so easily bent to justify the inhumane treatment of Yigal Amir should be a warning to us all. All it takes is for one nameless person to raise the possibility that he may incite others to put him in solitary for the rest of his life. Truly Kafkaesque.
16. To all the bloggers in here
David ,   USA/ISRAEL/EGYPT   (11.15.10)
Can you hear yourselves ??? Amir did not ask to be freed. What's with all the HATE?? the Shin Bet was accused of hiding information in the past about that case. I believe that it was a conspiracy and not just Amir that murder Rabin....Your hate is consuming you and all of Israel. Relax!!!
17. If it were the UK he'd be fit for release soon!
Ali' ,   Scotland   (11.15.10)
I don't like the man but this is cruel by any normal persons standards.
18. re amir - lock him up and throw away the key
miri ,   israel   (11.15.10)
19. solitary confinement causes mental damage?
Israel   (11.15.10)
What about the mental suffering and grief caused by Rabin's family, and an entire nation? Let him out of solitary confinement on the understanding that he is the new prison punch bag.
20. what they are doing is disgusting
zionist forever   (11.15.10)
Its bad enough that the politicians from the 3 main parties at least along with Peres have decided that Yigal Amir will never leave jail alive when his crime was no different to anybody else that commits murder. To make it worse they are determined that for no just reason he will be kept in isolation. Vanunu spent 11 years in solitary and with good reason because we didn't know what secrets he had or who he would tell eventually he was released from solitary. Yigal Amir doesn't have any secrets to tell which could harm national security but he has been in solitary 15 years and everytime thats up for review they make an excuse why there is good reason to continue keeping him in solitary. Shin Bet are embarresed that they screwed up same way that the CIA are embarrsed over Jonathan Pollard and so he is being treated so unfairly.
21. to "David" from Karmiel and others
Kurt ,   Austria   (01.03.11)
I find strange that only Israeli people have such a hatred to Amir and all his family: wife, father, brother. BTW his wife name is Amir. It looks like as a provocation. People from another countries have normal mind. Never mind where they live; in UK, Ukraine or USA.
