1. Why doesn't Shas hold an auction?
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (11.17.10)
That way, they can just vote for the highest bidder. You know, this morning I looked at a map of Israel on the internet. It didn't say Israel anymore. It said ''FOR SALE''
2. More US and Barak Bribes for Shas?
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (11.17.10)
SHAS corruption is terrible if they vote for freeze cut off their funding. http://ralphsrant1.blogspot.com
3. False piety?
Steve Klein   (11.17.10)
For me, this is quite incredible. These are religious Jews who are led by esteemed rabbis; by a great Chief Rabbi and a Torah scholar; a recognized halachic authority. Shas rabbis know what the Torah and our prophets said -- what Moshe (Moses) said and wrote --about the land of Israel. This should be a non-starter for Prime Minister Netanyahu. He should not even get a foot in the door with these devout Jews. Shas' answer should be firm. Shas should be righteous in its determination. There should be no wavering on the proposition that the land of Israel belongs to the people of Israel in perpetuity and it must (!) be built up. This is our mission before our Creator. It is our obligation as Jews. Sadly, I am reminded of the word of the prophet Isaiah: ".....this people draw near and with their mouth and their lips do honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear of Me is a commandment of men learned by rote...."
4. Ralph Levy: From Israel to Jersey
Dav Lev ,   Burbank. CAUSA   (11.17.10)
To Ralph: the real problemo is Israel's archaic legislative system. Parliamentary democracy for such a miniscule country, is absurd. Not only gridlock, but "deals" to a fault. When a small party can bring down the enbtire govt, something is awfully wrong. In the statres, there are 50 govt, with two houses..upper, lower. Coalitions are made, but within each house. The govt funds services, etc., but after votes from the legislatures, signed by the gov. Israel needs: divide into districts. Vote for so many reps in each district. Total, 100 to 120. Do away with the Knesset. Vote directly for Pres (people). Sure, there will be jockying for gelt, but thats okay...no one party will rule absolutely. No Shas, or Kadima wherein people can shift parties on a wimb. Power will be shared, not dictated..is it possible. Yes. Probably, no. Also a constitution defining Israel is necessary, to incorporate old British laws and newer ones. Divorce, marriage, births, deaths..citizenhip? Defined in the document and amendments. Israel has to enter the 21st century. The old rules are prehistoric. The Charedi will have their locks plucked if this ever happens..and be forced into the overall society..or die on the wine vine.
