1. Secondary citizens at the back of the bus?
aki ,   haifa   (11.21.10)
........... or perhaps they like to see the women "parading" down the isle/catwalk for thier perverse chevenistic pleasure more like it. Let the men sit at the end of the bus so the women can heckle them on thier way back.I don't blame the women- I would not like to sit by the men either.
2. Disgusted
nathan ,   Israel   (11.21.10)
I have no words to describe what I am feeling at this moment... The "buses will be monitored to make sure there is no violence"? WTF No real Jew would even consider degrading women this way....are we trading black clothing in favor of white sheets and pointed hats?!!!!
3. First the buses, then everything else
Ger ,   Raanana, Israel`   (11.21.10)
So 60 years after racial segregation on buses ended in America, religious segregation is declared legal in Israel. Oh, the wisdom of our judges!
4. Court-Protected Segregation
Glenn Tamir ,   Shorashim, Israel   (11.21.10)
Dear Israel, you want us to support our country when we are attacked as being an "apartheid State" - which it is not (yet), but when our justices and politicians allow segregated buses in the public sector we, the Israeli people, need to say, ENOUGH ALREADY. We do not want to become like Iran. These laws are NO DIFFERENT from Sharia law. We love living in a Jewish Country but we also demand to live in a democratic country with a constitution that protects our civil rights. Enough already - Time to get out in the streets and protest people.....
5. WE ALL NEED TO VOTE!!!
David ,   Haifa Israel   (11.21.10)
WE ALL NEED TO VOTE TO BREAK THESE BLACK HATS 25% VOTER BLOCK!! THE HAREDI NEITHER WORK NOR CONTRIBUTE A SHEKEL TO OUR SOCIETY.
6. Monitors werer "required to move from their seats"
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (11.21.10)
If they were "required to move from their seats" then it was not voluntary and was against the law. This discrimination is both morally wrong and unsafe. Opening the back door with no one monitoring security is not reasonable and unless the companies are paying to have a 2nd person at the back door this is unreasonable danger to the people on the bus.
7. Welcome to Tehran
Avi ,   Israel   (11.21.10)
Gee i wonder whats next, public stonings in the village square ?
8. Another goose-step towards aparthied
vernon marriott ,   Tel Aviv   (11.21.10)
This time it's petty aparthied. It is revolting,it's disgusting and unacceptable. Where are the freedom riders, the people who will swamp the buses and overturn this seditious nonsense?
9. Buses
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.21.10)
The buses should have two entrances,on both sides of the car to be effective.
10. My plan of attack
Danny ,   Jerusalem   (11.21.10)
I plan to find one of those buses and get on it with my wife and bar rafaeli dressed in short skirts and sit in the front seats and refuse to move. Perhaps I 'll invite some national religious girls in sandals to join us.
11. This is Disgusting!
Phoenix ,   Israel   (11.21.10)
Why should exist such a terrible situation here in Israel? Why should anybody adjust to the ignorant and primitive way of the Haredis??? Why??? These people are ignorant they learn nothing but religion, they are like cavemen. Do not belong to this time and era. Instead of okaying their primitive ways; the goverment should fight to give them a proper education to learn about 21st center live and culture.
12. Spinning in graves
David ,   UK   (11.21.10)
What is that whirring sound. It must be the founding fathers/mothers of Zionism spinning in their graves
13. #5, don't make such generalities!
Ita   (11.21.10)
there are quite a few hard working "black hatters". 1. my dentist - who learns all morning and sees patients in the afternoon.. 2. the travel agent in my area.. etc etc etc etc. Not to mention my husband and I work 40-50 hour weeks and pay our dues!!! And you claim that WE don't consider you jewish.. seems like you don't consider us to be jewish.
14. I have taken one of those buses today
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.21.10)
Women sat in front too , and when returning home i sat in the back with other men . Did'nt hear ANY problems . It was bus 426 .
15. talkback #3 is right on
the great ,   ashdod israel   (11.21.10)
that is exactly what i thought when read this article. the ultra orthodox not only refuse to contribute to the nation by working and serving in the army but they incite violence against their own people which is by the way also a sin
16. where is Sarah B ?
(11.21.10)
17. This is not kosher!
Dina ,   Montreal, Canada   (11.21.10)
Referring to these buses as 'Kosher' does a huge disservice to the concept of kashruth. These buses and the enabling of them to exist is as treif as treif can be.
18. 3 Cheers for the Talkbacks!
Mike ,   Portland, USA   (11.21.10)
Three cheers for the talkbacks. Time for rank and file Israelis to fight those that hide their discrimination behind their "religious observance". In the U.S. we currently have those embracing gay discrimination hiding behind "religious beliefs" (so called Christians suddenly embracing the book of Leviticus).Tolerance of fanatical intolerance, disguised as religion= a final result of intolerance. A negative times a positive = a negative. Intolerance of intolerance =tolerance. A negative times a negative = a positive. Pure logic. Keep fighting back for civil rights!
19. No. 16 ~ Who Cares!
(11.21.10)
20. so, the front seats are the "better" ones, and reserved for
eporue ,   europe   (11.22.10)
men ? what, if there are walking impaired women, or pregnant women - do they then all have to walk to the back of the bus ? it would have been more fair, if the SIDES had been split, e.g. left side men, right side women... ...but not women to walk all the way to the back....
21. I once sat in the front as there were no seats in the back.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (11.22.10)
It didn't take long for the concerned men to clear a seat at the rear of the men's section for two women. I would call it forced courtesy. Didn't their mothers ever teach men that ladies should be seated?
22. Charles After you made law and order?
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.22.10)
were not any problems.Lol
23. Response to #12
Steve ,   Liverpool, UK   (11.22.10)
I suspect that the whirring noise is so loud because they are joined by the revolving corpses of the religious leaders of the past, who see all too clearly that things have been taken rather too far and without justification. The philosopher Alan Watts once said that one of the reasons we have religion is so that one group of people can feel superior to everyone else. Spirituality seems to have been relegated to the back of the bus while one-upmanship (always going one step further) is allowed to sit prominently at the front.
24. Segregated buses
Glenys ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (11.23.10)
Welcome to Israelistan, where a minority are getting exactly what they want, and are getting more and more threatening as they shove the women into the back of the cattle truck. Women of Israel: if you don't start doing something NOW you will all be shaving your heads, donning black stockings and sitting at the back of everywhere.
25. 24 segregated buses
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.23.10)
HELP It is a matter of life or death!!!!
26. Jewish dog days in Jerusalem
jo   (11.23.10)
Stupid High Court of Justice, stupid Transportation Minister, stupid justice Elyakim Rubinstein, stupid Egged and Dan. Well monitored segregation? (besides the buses).- On the sidewalks, in the supermarkets, at the Wall, in the synagogues, on the beaches, in theaters, and more will be " well monitored " as well. Nice package of crap. Saddly, haredi women are " dogs ", they will submit and obey, just like the scriptures in the koran demands.
27. 26 jo
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.23.10)
By comparing these women to dogs,it looks like you dislike dogs. Are you incidently a fat cat?
28. Jewish cat days in Jerusalem
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.23.10)
Seems you dislike dogs (by comparing them to Haredi women.)Must be you are one of these gutter cats populating Jerusalem.
