China will abstain from any action even if it runs the risk of a nuclear war at it's door step, mostly because the Chinese don't give a dam. The US can't really do anything unless S Korea wants us to. So the problem is that we are willing to act, but we might not be allowed by our own allies. This would send a very bad signal to Iran and the other Tyrannical states around Israel. That means those new F35s better be coming in fast because Israel is going to need them.

With all due respect North Korea is not a rational country or does it have rational thinking leaders or people. It is a paranoid cult at best. China backs North Korea because it doesn't want US troops on its door step or a South Korea more powerful and it doesn't want to feed millions of Korean refugees that will destabilize itself as well. There is no rational way in dealing with North Korea because they don't think like any other nation on this earth. You don't encroach on North Korean territory and every perceived threat to North Korea resulted in attacks by North Korea. USS Pueblo captured, American officers hacked to death for cutting a tree, An American helicopter shot down for accidentally straying across the DMZ just to name a few. The North Koreans threaten every year about South Korean-US Military moves by singing the same tune, however this time they called and warned SK to stop shooting in a region they don't recognize as part of the truce they started firing. No matter what the US or South Korea does will not have an effect on North Korea unless they have security guarantees and we all know that will never happen. So I say brace yourself for more conflict whether tactical nukes are introduced or not. The North Koreans are not stupid knowing that in a few hours hundreds of tactical nukes could be in South Korea if the US chooses to go that route in an emergency and they know the US & SK will not risk a million civilian or soldiers for something they don't want which is North Korea and its 15-20 million cult followers. The only way to deter North Korea is to be willing to kill 15-20 million North Koreans and nobody in there right mind is willing to do that and they know that.

Aggression can be a two-sided coin where one side calculates aggression differently than the other side leading to a cycle of aggression of endless duration and the potential of unintended consequences. The US and South Korea needs to step back from this Good Cop Bad Cop mentality and develope a consistent dialog with the North that does not attempt to make it lose face within its area of control. The spying and airspace breches over the North is well-known with an unending array of methods being use to gain intelligence. The US-S.Korea should also, stop attempting to calculate a defeat of the North by a military means, because it stupid and has not even worked in Afghanistan nor Iraq after 10-years of blood and treasure and would never work against the North given its hugh military assets and closeness to the South. It time to talk like equals and save lives on both sides!
