1. win-win situation
Michael ,   Haifa   (11.26.10)
If there is rain, then the mumbo-jumbo hocus-pocus worked. If there is no rain, then there is proof that god is punishing the righteous for the sins of the Left.
2. my brain hurts and my heart cries
david ,   jerusalem   (11.26.10)
these cavemen actually believe what they are doing have any use? or maybe i missed something and this is just a joke, because if this is for real, it's really really sad that in this day and age of science and knowledge this kind of acts still exists. My sympathies to their ashamed families.
3. two types of prayers
Yoni ,   Tel Aviv   (11.26.10)
I once heard that there are only two types of prayers. One that is answered and one that we didnt pray hard enough for. The truth is that prayer is one of the most powerful spiritual tools that mankind has and is a natural instinct in mankind to turn to God above him who runs the world and speak to him from his heart. I have been answered many times in the open obvious way and many times I accept the fact that God says no. When he says no it is clear to me that it is better for me this way either to challenge me or for one of the many calculations only God sees. The Jews have always reverted to prayer and it is not hocus pocus it is turning to the master of the Universe who created us and science and continues to give life to every molecule that exists on the planet every moment of its life. Without God we would not exists just as one cannot be born without his parents. Without God constantly willing each one of us into existence every moment of our life we would vanish. The energy in the universe is only God's energy and nothing else has any energy of its own. It can be given and taken as God wishes. The most important thing to remember is that God does not get anything from this creation and he creates us and sustains us only for our benefit.
4. I hope it helps
KFC ,   Israel   (11.26.10)
But I'm afraid they have made a mistake as we all know that they should have flown at a hight of 1,500 to 2,100 and not at 1,000 - it is a well known fact. So I am afraid this time it will not help. I am surprised that the Rabbis did not know that and made such a fundamental mistake. Also they let men and women fly in the same basket? that is a no no big time, women fly at the back of the basket we all know that.
5. I hope the beauty queen read Psalm 65!
Sally Forth ,   Jerusalem of course!   (11.26.10)
particularly the verse that says: "You remembered the earth and watered it, greatly enriching it with the streram of G-d that is full of water." Besides that if all of them and the rest of us just do a bit of organized raindancing well then hopefully the Mighty and Merciful G-d of Israel will be amused and will let the rain come pouring down from His goodly heaven!
6. Amazing prayer song - For Israel !!

7. #3, very nicely written...
Daniel Breslauer ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
However molecules don't live. The smallest living thing is the cell, which is compused of molecules.
8. 2 David
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
As a logical person, you must admit that science has its limits.Prayer is beyond these limits. The human being has a body and a soul.Without a soul it is like a robot.Food for thought for Shabat.Shabat Shalom.
9. 1 Michael A scientific proof?
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
10. @ ORA
david ,   jerusalem   (11.26.10)
souls? that belongs to another discussion. Here we are talking about a bunch of people whose imaginary friend in the skies is not only a megalomaniac and a murderer but also is very old or very deaf. It's time to grow up and stop believing in fairy tales. And as Pat Condell says "faith it's an act of will. It's not a state of grace. It's a state of choice, because without evidence you've got no reason to believe, apart from your willingness to believe. So why is that worthy of respect, any more than your willingness to poke yourself in the eye with a pencil?". Have a good weekend, rest and i wish for you to wake up to reality.
11. Solution...
Roland Seener ,   London England   (11.26.10)
Alas we have no 'Choni Ha magel' to intercede with Hashem on our part. The Angel 'Af Bri has not been sent to relieve our situation. So are we left only with the Synagogue and their devout attendants to help restore this essential product in its proper balance to keep us,animal and plant alive. If the synagogues were continually overflowing with congregants, perhaps 'Hashem" would take more favourably our genuine pleas to him.We seem to put faith to the test and within the power of men in 'Water Solutions' of desalination plants that won't materialise like everythig else on time when we need it.As religious people are dear readers ,follow the course of the "Shema" and as promissed we should get the former and latter rains. So give it a try .You never know if your prayeris the one that can tip the balance...Good Shabbos to you all.
12. So how exactly has science produced the rain ?
Dr Levy ,   London   (11.26.10)
Oh david we have dealt with many of the morally superior by proxy of heritical atheist pride. You are not a wise man but rather a fool, who is unable and inept in differentiation. How has the science gave you rain (not desalinisation which is inefficient). Why are you in jerusalem in the first place? is it not the 'cavemens' book who has directed you there?
13. Flying Rabbis???????
Shim ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
Flying Rabbis ??????? Who ever heard of "Rabbis" Menashe Malka and Reuven Deri ???? No normal , normative rabbi thinks he has to fly into the sky to pray for rain. Think of Eliyahu Hanavi telling the Prophets of Baal to scream louder so their god would hear their prayers. This is just another media gimmick. The real rabbis went to pray at the grave of Choni Hame'agel, the classic figure who prayed for rain. And they ask G-d to send rain in the merit of Choni. That's the Jewish way.
14. 10 David
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (11.26.10)
If i understood well, you do not deny the existence of G-D.But you do not believe that He responds our prayers, because of the shoa. I think differently, and i shall try to explain you with an example. Two brothers had diabetic in an advanced stage, and the chirurg,in order to save their lifes, had to deprive them from their legs. One of the brothers did not believe anymore in his doctor and did not listen to him;the other one continued the treatment, received artificial legs, did reeducation, and could live a normal life.People who still believe in G-D ,and connect to him by his commandments, have got more strength to overcome the difficulties of life.We pray knowing that G-D always listen, but not always agree. And very often agrees. After we have done everything to achieve our goal,we pray for success. As the latter doesn t depend on us we are not anxious. If G-D does not agree,we have confidence in His judgment, and we think:Gam zeh letovu.(this is for our best)
15. These bozos made a mockery of a very serious situation!
NEGEV Resident ,   Israel   (11.26.10)
Shame on them! I know which rosh moetza I won't vote for next time.
16. They are already praying for some weeks
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.26.10)
Every morning : Mashiv haruach vemorid hagashem . And as during the Shoa those prayers are a waste of time to an inexistinhg thing .
17. Why Judaism is irrelivant to the world
Rural Rabbi ,   USA   (11.26.10)
This is a ridiculous chillul HaShem. What these so-called Rabbis are doing is presenting the world a picture of Judaism as a primitive faith that thinks there is a Deity in the sky and by riding a balloon into the sky they can get closer to him so hopefully he can now hear their prayers. I am embarassed as a Rabbi and representative of my faith and culture.
18. ORA, Reading your tbs
KFC ,   Israel   (11.26.10)
I come to the conclusion that there is something wrong with the education system in Israel and also with the sandlarim. Let me explain, there are two brothers with mega pain in their legs, one went to your doctor who promptly went ahead and amputated both his legs and wouldn't you know it the pain has gone. The other brother just took his shoes off and also the pain has gone. Conclusion ORA? Stay away from witch doctors and from God that let 6 million people die and try to find better sandlarim.
19. why are MAD MAN making the news ???
(11.26.10)
20. Like the days of Eliyahu HaNavi
Eliyahu Konn ,   Powell, US   (11.26.10)
According to the narrative, מלכים א, a long drought came because of the people of ישראל. But not this time? Anyway it will probably rain soon.
22. @12, @14
david ,   jerusalem   (11.26.10)
not that's any of your bussiness, but since you asked: my mother was depressed and threatened to kill herself so i had to come to this desert. And rain is produced by the water cycle in nature, i learned that in 4th grade. No magic needed. Ora you are right, i can;t deny the existence of a god or gods, and neither can i deny the existence of unicorns, even though no one (who wasn't high on mushrooms) have ever seen either one. The thing is, you, london guy, and me are all atheists, I just go one god further. Because you don't believe in Ra, do you?
23. #17 if that's what u believe ok...
(11.26.10)
but the real Hillul HaShem is that you are being so overly critical of them. You seem to have forgotten that in the general scheme of things we are meant to be respectful and polite to one another this is one of the aspects of Bin Adam L'Chavero (between man and his friend). In so roundly criticizing these rabbis you have violated those precepts of Bin Adam L'Chavero and that my friend is not very nice!
24. fellow TBers me thinks that ORA is really Rivka in disguise!
(11.26.10)
what do you think?
25. # 24
Birdi ,   Israel   (11.26.10)
Nope they are 2 different women. Ora is a born Jewess whilst Rivkah is not. Rivkah is more eloquent in her posts & does not apologize. Ora is in Jerusalem whilst Rivkah is in USA. Their style of writing is completely different.
26. #23 Not Applicable
Rural Rabbi ,   USA   (11.26.10)
There is no Bin Adam L'Chavero whenever Jews (even if they are Rabbis) are bringing disgrace to Judaism and to HaShem. If this was the case then the Talmud is full of Bin Adam L'Chavero.
27. Define God and Existance?
Rural Rabbi ,   USA   (11.26.10)
God doesn't exist, God is beyond existance (Derech HaKabbalah). This is the fundamental premise of Judaism and serves to make atheistic and deistic arguments both valid and invalid. When you overcome your subjective states of perception then you will both see.
28. Rain for Israel
RC ,   USA   (11.26.10)
Please EL SHADDAI ALL MIGHTY YAHUWAH I beg that you bring rain upon Israel and Bless Israel for there are still righteous among them that need the rain.
29. A SAD STATE WE'RE IN...
SETTHERECORDSTRAIGHT   (11.26.10)
I SEE SO MANY NON-BELIEVERS WHO ARE SO NEGATIVE AND LACKING IN EMUNA. AND WHO EXACTLY ARE THE CAVEMEN? THOSE WHO PRAY FOR RAIN OR THOSE WHO BOW TO A FALSE g-D? CLEARLY THESE MATERIALISTIC IDOL WORSHIPERS FANCY THEMSELVES THE MORE INTELLIGENT SECT. I BEG TO DIFFER. THERE IS ONE G-D AND HE IS IN CHARGE. HOT AIR BALLOON BASKET, SYNAGOGUE, OR WHEREVER IT IS ONE CHOOSES TO PRAY, THESE PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT IDEA. YESHER KOACH.
30. 24 , 100 % NOT
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (11.26.10)
Ora is millions of miles away from this rivka . Ora is a 100 % Jewish religious woman , she and i know same people in our birth town . But why are you such a coward ? forgot your name ? Poor guy !
