12. how dear you solange!!

13. Israel has no qualms about asking
(12.02.10)
Israel has no qualms about asking for help from Bulgaria, Croatia, Spain, France, Romania, Greece, Cyprus, and America to fight a fire. Israel should take greater responsibility upon itself. We often see Israelis brag about how great their economy is and how their GDP is so high. Still, they must go to all these less "lofty" EU nations to bail them out of a simple fire.
14. we all know who is responsible for this
chaim schonbrun ,   brooklyn ny   (12.02.10)
of course nobody will say it,but in their hearts they know exactly who it was, people of Israel this is just a sample, the main dish is coming later,Israel is the only country in the world, that has millions of its residents as sworn enemies of their country, and who pray five times daily for the complete and utter destruction of their host country. and 25 years ago when rabbi meir kahane, warned us and had a solution for this problem,he was thrown out of the knesset

Your remarks are thoroughly inappropriate and unseemly. May their memory bite you when you experience a personal tragedy.
16. terrorist arson
Jerry ,   Israel   (12.02.10)
why doesn't the article say it was arson? Fire started in 3 different places.

18. Unnecessary replay of the 2003 San Diego wildfire disaster
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (12.02.10)
All the elements are there - dry conditions, high winds, heavy brush near dense populations, combined with inadequate firefighting equipment, poor preparation and poor communications. But the main cause of the 2003 disaster here, that let a tiny arson fire spread to consume 4000 houses and thousands of acres of parks - was the idiotic refusal of the political leadership of the firefighting agency to let firefighting aircraft fly at night, believing this to be unsafe. However, they are trained to do this. From what I read, Israel's firefighting commissionar is now MAKING THIS SAME MISTAKE - not letting experts do their jobs. Firefighting aircraft must fly at night to be effective.
19. #2 - area is too small for defensive fires
DB ,   UK   (12.02.10)
The area is really quite small. I seriously doubt they could use defensive fires.

21. What can the public do to help?
Talula ,   Israel   (12.03.10)
Are there centers where they need help? food, supplies? Please publish some information on this subject. It's difficult to watch the news and remain so helpless while our country burning.

The "simple fire" has already damaged 100.000 dunams of trees you moron.

Birdi ,   |Israel   (12.03.10)
The Israel fire department does not own, does not have any firefighting planes. There are however maybe a dozen privately owned firefighting planes.
25. firefighting
alexi   (12.03.10)
israel is a good solid country in distress ravaged by this gigantic fire. Some european friends are helping out with fireplanes and materiel.Greece, Cyprus, croatia, bulgaria, italy, possibly russia and even Turkey have offered help. In future, it should be clear that israel's firefighters must have native resources in airtankers and materiels so they can be independent in fighting all manner of fires, natural or terror related. I do commend bibi and liberman in particular among others who have been lightening fast in directing attention and resources to the problem. That is exactly, exactly what is needed in emergency times and folks ought to recognize their contributions.

27. Fire
Jan ,   Houston, Texas   (12.03.10)
OMG, this is so terrible, I wish there was something I could do....as soon as an address for donations is posted, I will help that way. My heart goes out to the families of the victims of the bus tragedy, as well as all those whose lost their homes. I am thankful that other countries have offered to help Israel, as tiny Israel is frequently the first to help others in emergencies. God Bless Israel.
28. To: No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.03.10)
You are assuming facts not in evidence. Israel did not request foreign assistance. It is, however, quite gratifying that other countries have VOLUNTEERED to help, much the way Israel has always extended a hand to countries after earthquakes, floods and other natural disasters. Your comments are despicable and inappropriate, to say the least. Finally, I truly do hope that you never learn first-hand that there is no such thing as a "simple fire." Only a truly mentally impaired individual would make such a contemptible remark.
29. Was this tragedy caused by humans on purpose?
