31. Terrorism plain and simple. Israel needs a LOYALTYLAW PERIOD
Enough S Enough ,   Haifa Israel   (12.03.10)
stay and serve as citizens of JEWISH nationstate freedom for all supportive people, or get the heck out and live in your 22 fiefdoms.
32. #10 - There's a special place in hell for you.
Larry ,   Santa Ana, USA   (12.03.10)
May you see it soon.
33. Solange
Miri ,   Panama   (12.03.10)
May i ask what are you doing in Israel since you so much hate it? why dont you return to your third world country where you belong, Israel will be a better place without scumbags like you
34. #13 - that's a stupid, hateful statement
William ,   Israel   (12.03.10)
Many other countries too have their successes but then grind to a halt when disaster strikes. Turkey, Pakistan, Colombia, Indonesia, Haiti, Bulgaria, and many others all reached out to Israel when they needed disaster relief and special technology to help their citizens. There is no nation that is 100% self-sufficient, except the US but that's declining these days. As sages say, the light of G-d is not from him solely, but from us humans to rush to each other's aid in time of need. If asking for help is a sign of weakness, then we are weak...so what?
35. #10 why do you cry when the same logic applies to Arabs?
William ,   Israel   (12.03.10)
They certainly do live by the sword, against the necks of many civilians, but you cry like other retards when it comes back to bite them as "unfair". This fire is just another example that Israel is indeed like other nations of the Earth.
36. #24 Birdi, IDF has dozens of CH-53 Yasur, other helicopters
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (12.03.10)
These heavy lift helicopters are easily equipped with huge fire-fighting water buckets at low cost, there's plenty of water near Haifa, and flown day or night by night-qualified IAF pilots, would be as extremely effective in Israel as they are in the US. These keep us safe in San Diego, now. But they aren't effective if you don't use them! So far, I only see in news photos tiny single motor Cessna Agwagons (crop dusters) dropping totally useless sprays of water. I see no IAF helicopters - did the news photographers miss them? Or are Israel's big choppers sitting at their bases - because some clown thinks they can't fly at night. Or worse, because IDF never acquired those low-cost firefighting buckets (don't military bases also require fire protection?). Something just doesn't make sense.
37. cant stop crying...
katrina ,   ontario,canada   (12.03.10)
my beautiful haifa...
38. 14 Has it absolutely backwards
(12.03.10)
It is those that pray three times a day that should have stood in the gap but their prayers are worthless because they have traded their ridiculous ways for Torah. בארת נשברים And it's NOT ONLY THE ULTRA ORTHODOX. And when they are called on it with historical facts they ignore or resort to character assassination of the messenger.
39. # 36
Birdi ,   Israel   (12.03.10)
I was writing about the israeli Fire Dept. Yes the IAF has these helicopters. There is a 10 year old law here that does not allow planes to fly over fires at night. The IDF & the IAF are involved in fighting these fires & no they were not sparying water,as you could plainly see the liquid was pink. Yes military bases have fire protection. You will be able to read more information about containning the fires, tomorrow.

Despite all differences we have against Israel, I hoping and praying this terrible fire may be stopped soon. It is having a terrible effect on both the Jewish and Arab people of Israel. Please this is not about politics...it is about having humanity and helping others in need. My condolence for all those who were have lost their homes and lives in this terrible fire.

Ellen ,   Israel/USA   (12.03.10)
My heart goes out to those who are in danger of loosing their homes. Currently I am in the US, I only wish I was in Israel to host some who need a roof over their heads. My sympathies to the families of those who were killed.
45. we'll need more wikileaks to know the truth
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (12.03.10)
but my guess is some camper/picnic-group/cold (coldest season at elevated altitude) and or cooking outside was, how does one put it?, the same people (attitude) who ignore rail crossing barriers, and then cause their own or others' deaths. are there any in israel? i do not think it terrorism, though the blithe ignorance of some persons might inspire such in future. we'll need another wikileaks to know the truth.
46. I'm stunned. Sympathy from Pals? I hope this crisis ends
Harry Wright ,   UK   (12.03.10)
quickly without anymore casualties.
47. Solange needs to be returned to Islamberg
Hinda ,   SF Bay Area   (12.03.10)
Solange did you or one of your heroes set the blaze since you hate life and hate Israel? No one asked you to go to the country. No one asked you to be in a land of miracles. Just go back and become a slave for someone - as per the UN a non-intelligent woman (or man if you are one) such as yourself is only worth a merely $10. I think that's $9.50 more that what you are worth but that is my opinion.
48. Shrub growth fire supply
Robin Rosenblatt ,   Belmont, USA   (12.03.10)
We could have had goats and cattle, Texas Longhorn cattle eating those shrubs reducing the fire risk. http://longhorn-project.org Toda Robin

We mourn with State of Israel and pray that you over-come the fire threat and stigma caused. You are a good Freind of Kenya and have offered hand of help when we were in such a situation.
51. #16, you right, jerry!
stan ,   usa/israel   (12.03.10)
As stated in debka file, The focal centers of the raging fire are spaced roughly one to one-and-a-half kilometers apart, confirming the suspicion of arson

Sarah probabily that comming from salma or nior .
53. Fire area too small to safely use too many aircraft at once
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (12.03.10)
Due to drought and high winds this fire, while somewhat small can move very fast and change direction, with many homes and towns close by to add fuel to it. Too many aircraft in the air with all the smoke and high winds is extremely dangerous, more so at night. While wind is high, fire breaks where possible, then let it burn itself out maybe only real option.
54. Our Fault!!!
Eli F. ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.03.10)
Another monument for the dead. More speeches about sacrifice and heroism. Another high level "Investigative Committee". Accusations and finger-pointing, as to who was responsible. Conclusions and assessments "Will be reached". We already know, that its the incompetent bureaucratic laden and corrupt Government that has been talking about this pending crisis in the Fire Services for the last 20 yrs. They have squandered precious resources and time. And now we have 40 dead!! Heads should be rolling, but alas, this is Israel, NO ONE TAKES RESPONSIBILITY!!
55. # 10 is an exampe of what #14 is saying.
tanya ,   tel aviv. israel   (12.03.10)
56. To #14. Dont be so politically correct!!!
Shira   (12.03.10)
everytime there is a massive forest fire in Israel, it's de;iberate arsen. and the people who are commiting this arsen are arabs. They love Israel so much (hey, it's "tjeir" land, right?) that they are willing to burn it to the grown and turn it into a baren desert. 2 million arabs live in Israel and they cause only problem and destruction, not only to the Jews, but maily to themselves (this fire started at an illigal dump site near osfiya...). So, lets say it like it is: it's a form of terrorism !!!
57. We need money
Avi ,   NYC, USA   (12.03.10)
We need more money from the US to help us. Did the Americans start the fire? No. Don't they already contribute? Yes, but not enough...never enough. Let's arrange an article about a holocaust survivor, who is married to a wonderful Yemenite Jewish woman, who volunteered to fight the fire. Even better...he will volunteer to fight the fire together with his wife and her eleven brothers who are experts in fighting terror. Do you think that such a wonderful news article will get us more donations?
58. HELP
xt ,   tel-aviv   (12.03.10)

59. #54 Is right. The government will appoint
jason white ,   afula,israel   (12.03.10)
a committee with some retired judge and another two old prune faces. After months of hearings and scores of experts they will come to the same conclusion a ten year old would think up in 10 seconds. The guilty parties are the minister of finance and the ministry. They are always ready to cut budgets on vital services or delay spending money for personnel or supplies. We saw what happened during the second leb war with the army not having enough training and supplies. Shelters not ready for immediate use. Both local and national governments are led by incompetent "leaders" and have apathetic "workers". The only time some of them work is when they go on their periodic strikes for more money and less work. Now we have to go begging for aircraft and fire retardant chemicals. What if another fire is started somewhere else now? Why are there no volunteers for the fire service like the Civil Guard? Why not call up reservists that were trained as firemen in the I.A.F.?
