2. Precious Mother of a precious son
Dorothea Killus ,   Germany   (12.04.10)
Deeply moved, I read about you and your wonderful son. My nephew living in the same house as I here in southern Germany, is also a very gifted young man and courageous fire fighter helping always in the front row. You must be a great mother, permitted her son to give himself for others so unreservedly - a sacrifice of love. Be assured that your both sacrifice of love will bear fruit, as a powerful testimony to all who hear of you. I am praying for you that the just LORD may be your strong rock in your deep mourning now. He is also able to prepare a way for you into the future which you can go. Take my thankful, heartfelt greetings and those of our greater family.

23. #10 - Volunteer Firefighters
Granny ,   Vermont, USA   (12.05.10)
#10 - it is only fairly recently that many communities even here in the US had paid fire departments, something that didn't start outside of the cities until the 70s and 80s. Every single young man in the high school that I attended was a volunteer firefighter, and highly embarrassed I was when they all showed up to put out the flames when my little sisters lit the hill on fire on hot summer day trying to roast hot dogs. There is no blame to lay. Elad was a true hero, a son to make him mother and his community proud.
24. I AGREE #10!!!
jenny ,   USA/Israel   (12.05.10)
OMG!!!!!! In america NOBODY would ever even allow an untrained and completely unprepared 16 year old to be anywhere near such a massive horrific fire!! Who on earth gave such permission???? Same with all those precious cadets who lost their precious lives!! I don't understand! Back home only the most senior and seasoned firefighters would be dealing with such an incredible undertaking!! What a tragedy! G-D bless them and their families.
25. 23 - it is only fairly recently that many communities ,...
split ,   us   (12.05.10)
That was 40 years ago, not recently. Different states got different laws adopted at different time - Forrest and brush fires in mountain area are the most danger fires of all and most deadly for firefighters even the most experienced ones.
26. #24 - In america NOBODY would ever even allow ,...
split ,   US   (12.05.10)
What pisses me off that nobody dare to question autorities even in such a blatant screw up ,...
27. Why Was He On This Fire?!
David ,   Boulder, CO USA   (12.06.10)
You don't LEARN to be a fire fighter on the job - especially wildland fire fighting. It is highly dangerous. In the States, you cannot be younger than 18 to get your 'red card' which allows you to work a wildland fire. Did this poor kid have a squad boss? Who was the moron who let him "run towards a fire." Safety is the first rule of thumb and that means not "running into fire." The boy died for no damn reason!!!!

How can the fire team allow him to go when his very young ! he wasnt ready for the job. because a "kid" like him doesnt know to pertect himself like an adult who work in that a long time !
