1. But Iran might abandoned Syria.Have you thought of that Mr A
Roland Seener ,   London England   (12.17.10)
2. Israel would indeed be deluded
RipMouth ,   Chicago USA   (12.17.10)
Yup! Israel would have to be more than duped if it actually believe an outfit like this were to sever ties with terrorist Iran. Syria will have be destroyed along with Hezbollah & Hamas & the likes in the next, not confliction, but war. Now where was I? Oh yes, that's it! I was being amused with this story of Israel supposedly believing Syria was different than Iran.
3. Patrick Seale & his wrong thinking
Joe ,   Canada   (12.17.10)
According to the British journalist all problems in the Middle East & by extension in the Western world revolve around the Israel-Palestinians conflict & the only culprit is Israel's stand against peace in particular with Syria & the Palestinians. This sounds like the nazi propaganda trying to pump isolationist trends in the US & Britain by claiming all wars were made for & started by Jews. He forgets that most Moslems, for centuries (& in our times stirred by extremists of all stripes) do not want to coexist as equals with "Infidels". They may tolerate infidels in their midst but with a lower social, political, religious status. And they do not hesitate to use grevious violence to impose their values. He also forgets that most regimes in Moslem states are not democratic & that they are internally &/or externally riven by bloody conflicts which make them very unstable & unreliable "partners" in peace. He also forgets that a major factor in the current Middle East political & military situation is still the fight for the control of the oil resources which happen to be located there & it has nothing to do with Israel. Egypt & Jordan made peace with Israel without the concomitant requirement of peace with the Palestinians. Why does Patrick Seale contends that Syria can't do the same? Perhaps it is Syria's belief that it can continue its long standing game of playing the East against the West to draw the maximum of "bribes" from each side. The main ingredient for peace is still missing: trust.
4. so lets forget what happened in 67 or any other Arab war
Alexander ,   NJ USA/Israel   (12.17.10)
they didn't want peace then and they don't want peace now. Who is this baboon fooling? He doesn't have to live with them, we do... we can't take chances on our security because someone thinks he's got the magic solution to the problem which he doesn't even mention. The issue is not boarders or the Palestinians the issue is and has always been Israel's right to exist. This is why the Arabs went to war in 1948 in the first place and this is why the conflict continues. The 300 million or so fanatical Muslim's don't want peace with anyone, not even other Muslim's. Where is this guy getting his delusional ideas from?
5. breaking ties with Iran wont do anything
zionist forever   (12.17.10)
Its Iran that gives Syria weapons and pays Assads bills not the other way around. Assad breaks off relations with Iran what happens next? Is Iran going to give up its nuclear ambitions or conventional military powers? Is Iran going to stop supporting terror? Assad's relationship with Iran makes him feel special but at a practical level he is a nobody and Iran can ditch him right now and not be any the worse off as a result. The people who think that if we can get Syria to break off relations with then the whole region i going to change for the better are deluding themselves.
6. squeeze the seale until it squeals
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (12.17.10)
Obviously Seale didn't eat his wikileaksties for breakfast. Maybe he needs new reading glasses or a new battery in his hearing aid. Or perhaps he represents a new genre in British comedy!
7. They are going to keep on partying like its 1999.
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (12.17.10)
Syria should just rename itself and give itself up to Iran.
8. zionist forever, I have to give it to you...
Persian CAT   (12.17.10)

(12.17.10)
The Status Quo is 100% good for both of us (Syria + Israel)
10. Mr Seale, Israeli Might is Imperative...Period.
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (12.17.10)
...any more concessions from us and we risk losing it all. In the Middle East, fear rules and is respected...Leiberman will be voted in if Bibi goes soft.....He has 'cojones', unlike Assad Junior btw... Who's paying you to write this article?
11. #5 clear vission
You are right   (12.17.10)

12. In other news....
Alfie Knowkes ,   Golan   (12.17.10)
Seale reveals that the Jews use blood from Christian children to make matzot. Next week: re-published Protocols of Zion for Dummies.
13. Patrick Seale is one of the most knowledgeable...
Rafi ,   US   (12.18.10)
... experts on Syria - so his views should not be dismissed lightly. Nonetheless in today's regional environment, Israel is in no position to relinquish the strategic Golan - under any scenario, even peace with Syria. Israel and the world will therefore need to live with a continued state of no-war/ no-peace with Syria - as it has for the past 40 yrs or so. The Golan is invaluable to Israel on numerous levels - and it must be prepared to fight for it no less than any other part of its lands. Given the very cold peace with Egypt, one has to wonder whether even that was worth relinquishing the entire Sinai... One can only imagine what peace with a violent, mafia regime like Syria could be even under the best of circumstances...
14. #13, Seale was Hafez Assad's mouthpiece
Danny   (12.18.10)
in the West
15. zf, Iran has only supported...
Persian CAT   (12.18.10)
people's rights to defend themselves against the invaders. In Lebanon's case no Lebanese has set foot on Israeli soil. Iran has never persuaded anyone to attack Israel in order to occupy a portion of it. Iran is playing the same role that it has played for the last couple of thousand years. That is helping the underdogs. The Jews were in that position many years ago and the rest is history. It's just that simple.
16. Syrie abandone Iran?
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.10)
