1. Irini Cypri! Efharisto Parapoli! Peace upon Cyprus & Thank u
IMC ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.10)
To the government and people of Cyprus...thank you for being our stalwart friend. I have read of your kindness in responding with gracious assistance when we have had disaster fall upon us. Most recently your first line response by sending your equipment and firefighters during the fire in the Carmel. I have read of your strong forthright defense against illegal shipments attempting to enter Gaza. I have read of your quick response in Maritime assistance to our civilian sailors. I have read of your good will in many other security matters dating back many many years. And I have read of your patience with our unruly vacationing children! (So sorry but you know how children are!) Thank you truly "Efharisto Parapoli" for being a true and good friend to Israel! May it always be well between our nations!
2. Very well done
Anadelfos ,   Athens Greece   (12.19.10)
Now start drilling and prepare the pipeline for Europe through Greece. European customers are waiting for clean and cheap israeli natural gas. Just take all precaution measures to avoid future ecological disaster like the one in gulf of Mexico.
3. Suddenly Cyprus a true friend ?
Nora Tel Aviv   (12.19.10)
As long as Israel was a friend of Turkey , Greek Cyprus distanced itself. Now that Israel appraches the new found ( !) Greek Cyprus with open arms, it is all natural to be accepted as a "friend" by anti-Turkey Cyprus. P.S.- In politics there are no friends, only interests (De Gaulle).
4. Good news for us and for all the rest in the rigion
Omri ,   Israel   (12.19.10)
5. #3 Nora, a few facts....
IMC ,   Jerusalem   (12.19.10)
starting from the end: 1. although French President Charles De Gaulle is often credited with the quote you cite it was actually first stated by Lord Palmerston (1784 to 1865) of Great Britain. The correct quote is: "Nations have no permanent friends or allies, they only have permanent interests.” 2. What new found relationship what shoes? The State of Israel and Cyprus have had relations dating back to pre-state Israel and Colonial Cyprus (Cyprus was a British Crown Protectorate until 1960) 3. Cyprus and Israel have had diplomatic relations since 1948 and while on occassion Cypriot politicians have spoken out against individual Israeli actions on the whole relations have always been warm and cordial. 4. During the Turkish invasion of Cyprus Israel provided assistance to Cypriot citizens as well as to Archbishop Mikaros and his government. and so I stand by all of my statements in my item #1
6. What about Turkish Cyprus
Maurice ,   Montreal   (12.19.10)
Didn't they have a say in this agreement? Or did they agree as well?
7. ISRAEL
ANDREAS ,   LIMASSOL   (12.19.10)
GOD BLESS ISRAEL AND CYPRUS
8. #6 Not even the EU recognizes the entity "Turkish" Cyprus
Free Cyprus Now   (12.19.10)
In fact it is the principal reason why Turkey has not been given EU membership!
9. i preffer turkish north cyprus
alan   (12.19.10)
cheaper and more potential.
10. not only that, but
oferdesade ,   israel   (12.20.10)
israel was one of the few countries to recognise turkish cyprus - primarily as a gesture to the turks and in spite of int'l flack (yes, over that too). considering how appreciative the turks have been, any additional flack over this should be considered unwarranted.
11. #6 - like "Palestinians", they exist in name only
William ,   Israel   (12.20.10)
There is no "Turkish Cyprus", only Turkey-occupied Cyprus.
12. What about Turkish Cyprus # 6
Arnold ,   Montreal-Canada   (12.21.10)
Turkey is not happy and before the deal was signed the Israeli ambassador to Turkey was called in. I wonder if they him a lower chair.
13. What about Turkish Cyprus? - Oh what a laugh.
Mike ,   Australia   (12.21.10)
Sorry Maurice from Montreal (12.19.10), naturally the Turkish Cypriots quite rightly do not have a say in this agreement and why should they. It is in appropriate for the Turkish Cypriots who number 18% of the population to dictate the terms to the other 82% of the population. Does Quebec tell the rest of Canada in the national parliament what to do? Hardly. Maybe you should direct the same question to Ankara. Do the Kurds in Turkey enjoy the same rights being sought for the Turkish Cypriots. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Remember Turkish in the eyes of all but Turkey does not exist.
14. # 6 What about
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.07.11)
Maurice ! The majority of Turks in Cyprus, are Turkish Turks transplanted by Turkey to cyprus,so,those Turks should have a say in Turkey, not Cyprus.
