It must not be very fun to live in these arab league states/countries. They loose out on so many quality of life options in their life as part of their own. Would be interesting to hear a survey of how happy people are in these countries.

In movies it is the same, Hollywood movies are more on the side of fiction romans, israeli cinema is more about philosophical/political/life essays. I enjoy both. I am surprised, in the good way, about your self-criticizing remark :) Taking perspective even from what we like the most (our people for example) is a sign a health. And more over, a sign of big strength, and it is constructive (in general). I am happy that in Israel we can support movie makers which look at Israel and the israeli (Jews or not) with a critic sight. We know where are our imperfections, when we are not completely blind, but putting the finger on it, by the way of movies for example, may help to fix them. See the "Syrian Bride" for example, very moving, very critical, but useful. I will be interested about arab movies talking honestly about arab society. It will not harm the arab society, at the contrary. It can even help us to appreciate you even more. I don't elaborate more, you are smart enough :)

and have loved each and everyone of them. I have also seen maybe 4 arab made movies. Each one was the most depressing things I have ever seen! Most of them had to be watched in stages over several days just to get through them hoping that they somehow had some redeeming value in them. (They didn't) The acting was always OK in the movies but the script, story, and subject matter was terrible! The arabs can complain about Spielberg's depictions of them as insulting and cartoonish but it's a step ahead of the way they present themselves!
