1. Did it ever occur to anyone that the problem is not the
Bat Zion ,   Central Israel   (12.21.10)
mediator but the Palestinians themselves? Israel has made peace with Egypt and Jordan, with the courteous help of the American mediator, but Pals refuse to every offer since 1998. Amos Gilboa wrote a very interesting article about it the other day.
2. Viva
Jerrold Cohen ,   Seal Beach, USA   (12.21.10)
Viva Brazil. Viva Jimmy Carter. Sane sensible people.
3. HE HAS A 4th GRADE EDUCATION
Aaron ,   Delray Beach USA   (12.21.10)
...and it shows. He looked like an idiot between the Muslims in Iran laughing as if he had any knowledge whatsoever in the feild. He got lucky running Brazil in times of rising Commodities and he now acts like a genius. It was luck. He in actuality is a fool.
4. I apologize for our nutty peanut grower, a 1 term president
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (12.21.10)
as he was not worth a second term. The other nut from brazil just likes to hear himself talk in public, hoping someone will think he has something to say. Sadly, neither has anything to contribute to the world.
5. I have to say this
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.21.10)
I was born in the USA, although I would like to live in Israel for about 6 months every other year. But as of today, and as an American, I would like to state that the USA alone is the guardianship in the region and the only crucial country.
6. How long should we wait for these others to develop?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (12.21.10)
Sure we can wait for the Palestinians or Arabs to develop to the point where they can actually negotiate let alone mediate. Or we can wait for the Latin American Nazi havens to develop and grow to maturity. Maybe we should wait another thousand years to see if they can develop as de Silva requests.
7. The Eminence of Brazil taking world stage
Nour ,   One-State   (12.21.10)
And the waning of US influence accelerating. Ah a big grin on my face this morning! ...It's but a first step towards the formal end of the US hegemony of world affairs especially the Middle East. Thanks to the US's biased policies in the region, and its local settler colonial apartheid state, the area had been reduced to a bloodbath. Lula speaks the truth. As long as the US, a declining empire, continues to dictate and pretend to hold influence, the Middle East will never achieve the stability and prosperity it deserves. The issue is quickly becoming of global interest and revived heavyweight Russia and assertive China quickly picking up. Bye bye AIPAC/ADL/US Congress. Don't forget to turn off the lights!
8. Brazilians are friends of Justice
Salma ,   Palestine   (12.21.10)
So they're our friends, Viva Brazil : )
9. LULA = IDIOT (Simple like that)
Narah Correa ,   BRASIL   (12.21.10)
Thats the portuguese meaning of the name of our Great Helmsman............
10. Let's see where your "QME" will lead you
Nour ,   Palestine   (12.21.10)
Or rather...where has it led you? Apparently you were just fine with the fortification measures, enjoying the hot sun on TA's beaches, while your immediate neighbors are locked up, deprived of their own resources, and asked to move to Jordan! I guess some people just don't comprehend what values constitute peace. It means compromise, justice, equity, fairness, and logic. But no, you are too busy fullfilling a 3000 year old fantasy at the expense of the indigenous population. Expect more nations to attack your policies and racism. You will have nowhere to hide. Either face the truth, that the status quo cannot be maintained, or vanish! PS. Holocaust card will not work again, so don't even try!
11. Brazil's president comments
Glaser Jacques ,   Israel   (12.21.10)
Why in the world anybody with a right mind and at least with a 10 years old brain will listen to J.Carter? the worst president of all times and all countries. Antisemitic, anti Israel and a shame for the USA the perfect example of how to take a country in good shape and to bring it to is knees in 4 years. He should be left testing peanuts period. Now regarding the other nuts it will be better for him to fix his country where poverty and crime as well as corruption are the top problems and not waste his time on subjects that are not of his understanding.
12. Brazilian peace is a farce...
nadav ,   tlv israel   (12.21.10)
HOW can Brazil mediate a peace treaty between Israel and those secessionist Jordanians living on the West Bank when Brazil is best friends with Iran, Syria, and Turkey; Brazil harbours Hizbollah terror groups on its border with Paraguay, refuses to persecute Nazi era war criminals, and refuses to support UN sanctions on Iran?! Aside from this, why should Israel negotiate via Brazil, if the Brazilians have clearly and unilaterally recognized the 1948 armistice line between Israel and Jordan as the (Auschwitz) borders for the so-called "palestinian" state (the second Jordanian state)? What then is there to negotiate?- the Brazilians have already made up their minds as to where the second Jordanian state will be located? Brazil is only interested in the Middle East because it wants Arab /Iranian petro-dollar investments and to thumb their noses at the US, their rivals in the Western Hemisphere.
13. To my talk-back colleagues
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (12.21.10)
Brazil is a very important nation and Lula is no idiot. It's simply a result of Obama's foreign policy! Nobody believes in USA any more and the sooner we understand that in Israel the better. Obama has destroyed all the respect that the world had for USA be it for friendship or fear. So, logically, now things are changing. Let's stop be USA depending, call Russia, China, India, Brazil. Start being finally independent from the USA!!!
14. Viva Palestina
Paula ,   Spain   (12.21.10)
15. USA....No One is Listening to You Anymore
(12.21.10)
Apparently the entire world finally figured out that AIPAC is running the USA. The US's influence is waining as evident by the fact that the South American Countries are doing the righteous thing by recognizing the Palestinian state with complete disregard of the US's (AIPAC) pressure not to do so
16. #5 haha
grammar police ,   imaginationland   (12.21.10)
The real Sarah B. has a Ph.d. in apostrophe. She probably would have put an apostrophe after ''But'' , ''USA'' and ''alone''. You've missed out the periods in U.S.A. and that ''guardianship'' thing coupled with the verb ''to be'' just isn't working for you at all, sorry. She would not write ''6''. She would write ''six''. Better luck next time.
17. Hey Israelis
atik ,   usa   (12.21.10)
it's getting worse and worse, isn't it?
18. da Silva, the Carter of S.America -- Yeak !
josef   (12.21.10)
Another crackpot on the world stage. And the old time favorite, the peanut man Carter, is making his reappearance. I do agree that WWII world order is " passe ".The security council needs new blood; a good opportunity to expunge itself from the islamic venom. Including the 2 vipers Salma and Nour of course.
19. Nour and her fantasies
Mumbo Jumbo ,   One Heck of a swell   (12.21.10)
The only cards you and your chums play it seems is lying about your myth of an indigenous right to a land that was never yours...and read my lips... N E V E R W I L B E . So start packing and get ready to go home to Jordan, Syria, the Moon even. Don't bother to put out the lights, thanks have a nice trip.to reality.
20. If Carter Likes Brazilian Involvement: its Doomed to Fail!
Informed and Unfazed ,   US-Israel   (12.21.10)
Carter is a MORON: complete and total. Brazil is a failed nation, crime ridden and void of morals; the homeland of the worlds most dispicable pormography, murders and chaos; a totally backward nation. Carters popularity has dwindled down to Brazil...can't get any lower than that. Israel is unpopular only because it is hip to be a LIBTARD nowadays, which doesn't say very much since the worlds media is primarily aimed at "Generation Jack@$$!" Israel should begin ignoring the worlds state of supidity and do what it needs to do. The truth is, there wont ever be peace with the Palis: they don't want it and they are a hopeless bunch of war-mongers. Time to kiss the 'peace process' goodbye, take Judea and Sumaria BACK and let Destroy Hamas completely...letting the Gazans have their trife little territory and call it a day.
21. atik - #17
Kate ,   London, UK   (12.21.10)
So they've finally released you from Guantánamo.
22. Hey, ATIK USA
More Mumbo Jumbo ,   Xanadu   (12.21.10)
Actually Atik old chum, Israel has a GNP larger than Egypt, Syria, Lebabomb and Jordan aka so-called Palestinia, combined, and growing. So you can put that where you never see the rain. Have a swell daydream.
23. Brazil is right, the US is not an honest broker
Joseph Bloughberg ,   USA   (12.21.10)
The USA has failed for decades to achieve ME peace, so why would anyone believe that a weakling of a president like Obama will succeed where all others US presidents have failed. The US has in fact only hindered peace with the misuse of its UN veto and its overtly biased pro-Israeli stance, so it is high time to refer the matter to the UN an international courts to be resolved based upon long standing international law and existing UN resolutions once and for all.
24. I Have both Nationalities...I apologize
Pedro ,   Orlando, Florida   (12.21.10)
I have both nationalities, American and Brazilian where I was born, and I must apologize. Israelis and Palestinians listen and accept America simply because of the weight it carries in middle Eastern politics and interests. How is a Leftist pro-Iranian ex Brazilian president going to be accepted by Israel when other more Israeli pendant European failed miserably. Let me put it this way, America is probably not the only valued interlocutor but without America no talks will ever take place.
25. Lula's solution?
~~Lengualima~~ ,   I   (12.21.10)
The Lula's solution: all the the Jews come back to Europe, all Palestine for Arabs. Brazil follow doing business with Arabs and Muslim. somebody said once:"The love and the interest went to the field one day more could the interest that the love I had you."
26. Brazilian involvement
shmuel ,   israel   (12.21.10)
is burlesque. Carter is not exactly the most cunning person around. In good portuguese: Porra, fale serio...Brasil?Carter? - "yawn"
27. #17, in what way?
Danny   (12.21.10)
One of the few countries not to enter recession during the financial crisis, robust economy, militarily stronger than all of Israel's enemies combined. More diplomatic links than ever, more exports than ever. Palestinians have to rely on the same old tired marxists and muslim countries who have never so much as lifted a finger for them.
28. Weakness emboldens Zombies
Brod ,   USA   (12.21.10)
If America has a strong President that is pro-America and not pro-dark forces of the world, no countries will dare insult America. Congress should take note of this weakness that is emboldening the rise of zombies around the world. Lula is a Papist who has been imbibing the cesspool of Islamist-Jihadism and seems intoxicated with this evil ideology.
29. To: All
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.21.10)
The post at No. 5 is not mine. It isn't even a good fake. Try harder next time (here's a hint: I NEVER use a number for expressing single digits; I always spell it out. Moreover, I never use the acronym "USA." It's either "U.S."," U.S.A." or "United States." Finally, "guardianship in the region" -- oh, as if! My syntax is way better than that! BUSTED!
30. ***Sarah***...I nearly broke down, as I
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (12.21.10)
read the first sentence of the impostor of You...that is real comic stuff...loll (Please forgive me my amusement...)
