1. Why demand ownership?
(12.26.10)
It seems unthinkable that someone who "befriended" the wife feels so entitled to these important historical documents especially when every step to reserve them for all to see is being taken. If the documents were acquired illegally than this is quite unfortunate but the right thing to do is to give up the legal battle. The list is not at auction and not in danger, nobody is turning a profit and despite being the beneficiary there doesn't seem to be anything reasonable or valid about this claim.
2. So, basically, this is about money...
Ezra Z ,   US-Israel   (12.26.10)
If I had 'owned' an historical document that held great value to the public, I would immediately turn it over to the proper museum to harbor it safely for all to see...WITHOUT expecting any money for it. Who on earth has the 'copyright' to such historical documents? How could any court give it to a single individual who could then exploit the document rather than honor the history of humanity?? Why should this woman PROFIT from a horrendous consequence of the monstrous nazis?(may they be erased)??? Money...it always comes down to money. There is no honor to this woman or her name; she has tarnished her entire image with such a pursuit. Its such a disgrace when people act like this. I have NO sympathy for her: Jewish or Not, for shaming the value of such an historical document(s) by court proceedings and the pursuit of money. Why the hell should this woman profit from the holocaust? So Spielberg did a movie about an historical event: actually, its public domain, even if they use the name Schindler a million times because "the historical and educational value outweighs all other rights." Hopefully, I don't know this at all, but hopefully, Spielberg donated huge sums of the money to just Jewish causes and causes to honor the righteous Gentiles. If not...well, shame on him as well. But the document belongs with the Jews, not any single Jew, but to all of us.
3. "Trepadora, interesada" (an interested climber)
(12.26.10)
It seems that Erika Rosenberg is trying to do what she alleges that Mr. Speilberg did - that is she wishes to make money off of the Estate of the Late Emilie Schindler! Ms. Rosenberg should leave the documents exactly where they are at Yad VaShem as they are part of the history of the Jewish Nation and the State of Israel and not part of her personal patrimony and/or her money making schemes! (I do reiterate that if it were Emilie Schindler herself who was filing a claim I would have a different opinion)
4. Schindler's wife.
Steven ,   Rockville, USA   (12.26.10)
As the wife of Schindler she took a lot of risk as well with her husband’s noble activity which she knew and supported. The punishment for Schindler’s activity would be death by the Nazis for both of them . She should be helped financially by the State of Israel.
5. the list
agokoy ,   cebu   (12.26.10)
Yad Vashem should be pure like the G_d that they (the Jews) believe in. They have to return these articles to the rightful owner whoever that may be and irregardless of its historical and monetary values.
6. this woman stands for everything Shindler was against
zionist forever   (12.26.10)
PROFIT AT ANY PRICE I think that its safe to say that Oskar Shiindler would have wanted these documents to end up at Yad Vashem and its what he would have wanted not his wife and certainly not just a gold digging friend of his ex wife. This woman wants the documents so she can then put them on sale to the highest bidder. At $3.1 million for a partial list there is no way Yad Vashem can afford to buy this list but hey business is business right? As long as this woman who was not even related to Oskar Shindliler gets rich thats all that matters isn't it? These are valuable historical documents which belong at Yad Vashem not in the collection of the individual or institution with the deepest pockets and it would be a crime to hand them over because this woman wants to get rich. If she feels so bitter that Steven Speilberg made so much money out the movie and she go nothing then take it up with him not Yad Vashem.
7. Give it back
Peter   (12.26.10)
That are or were personal belongings and therefore Israel should give it back to the rightfull heirs.I know what these list means for Israel but the state of Israel is not the rightfull heir of these documents.Maybe Israel should pay for it if they want to keep it. But we all now Israel won't give anything and won't hear to any court decision except it's in their favour. They have stolen it or believs anyone the story of the courthouse representatives who arrived too late?
8. Erika Rosenberg
Gabi   (12.27.10)
If this woman, who is bankrupt of morals, ethics, character and integrity, wants the documents back, let her show her face in Israel. Let her go to Yad Vashem and get them herself. In the end, these documents do not belong to this greedy monster anymore than they belong to you or me, legalities be damned. They belong to Yad Vashem and must remain there because, through Yad Vashem, they belong to the world so that the world never forgets.
9. This is only about money
Yisraeli   (12.27.10)
Schindlers widow has long passed and dont forget Oscar S left her. The current claiment was simply an associate of Oscars former wife. Perhaps she would claim Oscars corpse in Jerusalem if money could be made of it. However more convenient to claim some documents for personal gain. In the end thats all its about, personal gain. The documents are in their righful place, Yad Vashem Jerusalem and no they dont have intentions in selling it on to make a buck but to preserve it for all generations. Case Closed.
10. Tell you what
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.27.10)
When the various museums and holders of priceless art that belongs to Jewish families who can prove the provenance return the art to the people who are the rightful owners, Yad Vashem can examine the issue of the original Schindler's List. The quarrel is not with the State of Israel, it is with the thieves who shamelessly hold on to works of art that belong to Jews. Seems fair enough to me. And since the foregoing will never happen, leave Schindler's List exactly where it is. With Yad Vashem, who will not exploit it just to make money.
11. #4 please the article again Mrs. Schindler is deceased...
(12.27.10)
this is about a money grubbing Argentine who wants to collect on her friendship with Mrs. Schindler!
12. Simply
DGS ,   Israel   (12.27.10)
Simply look at it this way, Yad Vashem will never!!! turn that away, so go and ask the lawyers what can she do, if she can do something go tell her buba cama at rotsa? fix it and shut it up! what story is this? Don't we have children to take care of? Jews that complain! Start thinking about the next Hitler to the east! or also let her shove a very good copy into her likes!
13. she is the legal heir of the documents...
eporue ,   europe   (12.27.10)
...but as they are historic ones, they belong to yad vashem. why should yad vashem/israel not compensate her for the value of the documents ?
14. or a german holocaust fund buys them, and donates them to
eporue ,   europe   (12.27.10)
yad vashem... as an individual, she cant (and shouldnt) be forced to donate them...
15. If not for the movie
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (12.27.10)
If not for the movie, nobody would really care about these documents and they would not be worth much except to Yad Vashem. Furthermore isn't Spielberg's movie based on a book by Thomas Kenneally, not by Erika Rosenberg. Even though it is true Kenneally is a plagiarist who copied the book "Confederates" from Phoebe Yates Pember, he did not copy Schindler's List from Erika Rosenberg. What's she going to do with the original list anyway? Other than sell it to some private collector (Saudi? Japanese?) for $$$$millions
16. Schindlers List
Debra Jenkins ,   NYC USA   (12.27.10)
An associate is not on par with a relative. The son of the mistress is an associate of even closer proximity and he has not protested. I interviewed Holocaust survivors for museums worldwide as part of Spielberg's SHOAH foundation, so this is personal. Ms. Rosenberg should be ashamed to ask that history belong to one and not all.
17. Schindler's list
Survivor's daughter ,   Manhattan, New York   (12.28.10)
I know first hand that S. Spielberg is a taker and cheap at heart! In 1977, when the Swiss Banks were questioned by the lead attorney to open their accounts, and pay back the survivors, a Swiss whistle blower risked his life and that of his young wife, and small children! He came to the US- he was flown out to California so that Spiegel could take pictures with them! not a single cent was offered to this family of righteous Gentiles! Not a job offer from the rich Spielberg married to a non-Jew Shame on him! And shame that Israel did not help Emilie at the end of her life.
18. rightful owner of schindler's list
rebecca ,   virginia usa   (08.03.11)
looks like ms. rosenberg is interested in the monetary value of the list. mrs. schindler was involved in trying to rescue jews. stands to reason she wouldn't, if she were alive, want any financial gain. to sell these documents, including--and especially--the list itself, whether privately or at auction is profiting from human suffering and dealing in blood money. this list and all the documents in question belong to yad vashem. there is where they will receive the proper care and honour, and the ones associated with mr. schindler will be recognized. . .both those who worked heroically with him and those who were saved by his actions and those of his wife. leave the list and all the documents with yad vashem. after all, it's the jewish people who suffered greatly during the shoah. the jews should have the right to own these and any documents or artifacts from that terrible, unspeakable time.
19. # 4 Steven In Rockville, USA
Ginette Golden ,   Toronto, Canada   (03.29.13)
Emilie Schindler is deceased. When alive, trust me, the state of Israel took good care of her. On the other hand, Erika Rosenberg is only sorry she can't get her crappy paws on the coveted documents that definitely belong in Israel, mainly in Yad Vashem. How did she happen to "own the copyrights of these documents"? She must have REALLY befriended Mrs. Schindler! End of story Erika and others, give up your greedy dreams and move on. The documents including that famous list are staying put where they are. We owe that much to the memory of the millions who have perished.
