31. No he's not.
Jack ,   Indianapolis, U.S.   (12.31.10)
Nearly everything that Wikileaks has released has already had the names redacted by wikileaks themselves. They are not getting anyone killed. Those in the intelligence services get themselves killed rather easily on their own. So why is everyone upset at Assange? Is it because he is exposing the idiocy and corruption that goes on behind the scenes? Would we blame a witness in a trial for getting a murderer executed because they testified against them and helped get the conviction. The only reason people are mad is because of politics. The different political parties wouldn't have a problem with Assange if he would only release info about their political rivals but he's not - He's releasing everything. Let the chips fall were they may.
32. Investagate a little more.
Jack ,   Indianapolis, U.S.   (12.31.10)
Transparency does not apply to Assange. He is not a public employee or government worker nor a swore representative. He is a private individual. And why would it matter if he wasn't transparent about his life? It doesn't change the revelations coming from the cables he's releasing. Wikileaks has released many other documents regarding other countries but you have to remember that he only has access to the information that a private obtained through our intelligence database not every other countries databases. His informant wasn't in the French, German or Chinese military.
33. Totally agree with you - in a way.
Jack ,   Indianapolis, U.S.   (12.31.10)
I totally agree with you. How dare this man expose the sociopaths and ego-maniacs that are our so called representatives. No one needs to know how they protect us or attempt to control the rest of the world. I really don't care what nasty and dishonorable things our country does in order to make sure, as Americans, that we have a leg up on the rest of the world. I mean, the rest of the population around the world are nothing but mud anyway so why should I or anyone else care what happens to them. Just as long as my nearly complete illusion of the world continues - I'm happy with that. Wink Wink
34. suicidal nut
david ,   new york   (12.31.10)
do you think that one of those arab leaders might think that the world would be a better place without this leach? i think that he is so narcisistic that he has no clue.
35. The whisper of death
Paul ,   Israel   (12.31.10)
This guy thinks he can change the way diplomacy works by revealing sensitive stuff, embarrassing the countries involved. Besides causing irrepapable damage to the art of diplomacy, that was ok because he targetted Western countries. Now he is going after the Arab World. He won't see out 2011. These guys don't take kindly to being publicly humiliated (as they see it) - ask Salman Rushdie. He has been living in hiding for 2 decades.
36. Every dog has its day
moriah ,   sacramento usa   (12.31.10)
37. I LOVE WIKILEAKS, CIVIL WAR IN EGYPT
Ethio Wetader ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (12.31.10)
This is an excellent development, a hostile takeover and a blood filled coup in Cairo, Egypt is exactly what we need right now. This new government will cut relations off with Israel and force Israel into Ethiopian axis against Egypt and other arab governments. Then Ethiopia and Israel can work in tandem to build dams in the nile river and suffocate Egypt, then the main arab threat to Israel will be wiped out. Julian Assange you just made history bro! keep going
38. Reply to #19 comment
Ethio Wetader ,   Addis Ababa Ethiopia   (12.31.10)
No arabs will not be after Assange. if anything they want to know what their corrupt, suppressive, and illigetimate regime is up to, so they can use it as a good excuse to revolt and bring REAL DEMOCRACY to their respective countries (Sadat regime change attempt) By the way most of this Wikileaks "secrets" are not so secret, the main details are out there, you just have to connect the dots. The details of conversations are interesting to read though.
39. #19 yes, and join such luminaries as Obama and Arafat!
The Doc ,   Haifa, Israel   (12.31.10)
...one who got a Nobel prize for doing NOTHING, and the other, for murdering thousands in vicious racist terror attacks, for calling to genocide and single-handedly inventing air hijacking. The Nobel prize and the people behind it are not relevant anymore, and have proved already that their biased and warped decisions are based on anarchistic and obscene views. I actually HOPE the Assange will get a Nobel prize for his actions. This will be the last nail of this once-respectable symbol, which was raped into irrelevancy by a gang of puppets with total disrespect to heritage and civilization.
40. 8 Alexander - Drone Attacks in London?
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (12.31.10)
Obama has tripled the use of drone attacks to go after al Qaida. But it would not be in good taste to do that in London. It might damage the "special relationship." Why not wait and see what happens. Meanwhile, PFC Brad Manning is still in jail. Should he get a trial? Many politicians want him summarily executed for giving the docs to Assange. For Everybody - The leaker is ion jail in Virginia.
41. Assange is the new Joker
Batman ,   Gotham City   (12.31.10)
42. Arab Coups
Burhan ,   Surfers Paradise Aus   (12.31.10)
If the leaks spark a coup then so be it... Let the truth begin. Whatever happens, will happen because it should. And truth should prevail.
43. ASSANGE
LT COL HOWARD ,   WASHINGTON DC USA   (12.31.10)
His leaks of the many very high-level informants we have within Hamas, Hezbollah the Palestinian Authority Syria, Iran, etc. will endanger the stability of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and the prospect for peace in the entire Middle East. He already has blood on his hands; now, he is planning to kill more people than any other current tyrant.
44. Why do US right-wing moron commentators hate transparency?
World Traveller   (12.31.10)
45. Arabs believe that
Moshe ,   Netanya   (12.31.10)
Saudi King is a US spy (in USA one Arab told me because he would not alow Arabs into his kingdom). The only "good" Arab is prez of Syria.
46. #31 Assange's "redaction" is amateurish.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (12.31.10)
Names aren't everything - when some individual is described in detail in a diplomatic cable, from his associates to his mannerisms, his business ventures and hobbies, and even open implications as to what his position is... the name is just the one missing link that doesn't take too much effort to complete. Oh, and that's just the diplomatic stuff. In the Iraq/Afghanistan related files, Assange and Wikileaks released the village and town names, accurate GPS coordinates, and other such lovely information about people who cooperated with the US government. These people are now at risk of death. Assange is much like the Joker from Batman - he'll set the world on fire just to watch it burn, and play with people's minds because he finds it funny. The difference being, Assange hides behind his mock idealism of absolute transparency.
47. No Lone Wolf!!!!
Noa   (12.31.10)
Just think: Information on the US, Israel and their Arab allies. He is surely backed by Putin &co. No way a single crazy person would be able to do this.
48. Assange - How best to describe him?
Tim ,   Brighton   (12.31.10)
Mmm How about - Puffed up arrogant self appointed guru of the world? Relishes the media attention and the blind faith of his cult followers. But most important has NOTHING whatsoever to contribute to world affairs Yet he thinks by his cunning subterfuge and his staunch financial contributers and lawyers he can freeload for ever is anserable to no one and get away with ANYTHING he says or does Mmm - How are the so called mighty fallen and good good riddance!
49. Tim of Brighton
RobertoRoberto ,   Salisbury - England   (12.31.10)
Your puffed up and arrogant response to WikiLeaks revelations and Mr. Assange are typical of an Establishment sycophant
50. If your government betrays you
Roger ,   Sao Paulo, Brasil   (12.31.10)
would want to know about that? Like the rotten spot in the wall hidden behind the furniture no-one wants to discover. Grow up and face it - reality will haunt you one day or another.
51. Does this mean?
dareisay ,   USA   (12.31.10)
If this would end up with our elite politicians stopping yearly "aid" to these countries, with our hard earned tax dollars... Go for it!
52. Hopefull this will lead to regimechanges
Kadir ,   Turkey   (12.31.10)
in the ME and facilitate democracy, especially in Egypt and SA. This would be good for all people in the Middle East, except for one troublemaker ant its master of course.
53. Brasil is the rotten spot behind the wall of earth
burning down ,   the rain forest   (12.31.10)
54. wikileaks
reddwine ,   usa   (12.31.10)
dead.....man.....walking
55. #30 - why not? You've been giving them away to anyone
William ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
Since you're comfortable giving peace prizes away to terrorists (Arafat) and for the future work you hope they will do (Obama), why not give one to Assange? It's not like its worth more than the monetary prize that comes with it. And he could sure use the money these days.
56. #38 - it wasn't Arab people who made fatwa of Rushdie
William ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
It was an Islamist religious leader, and his zealous followers are all too happy to carry it out for the glory of their Imam and "god". Do you really think the Arab street has a voice besides the useful "Death to America...Death to Israel...Death to " chants? The religious leaders and the ruling class in Arab countries have a lock on power and are intertwined. In Islam, religion and politics are one. A fact you seem to have ignored in your post. If Arabs really wanted democracy, most could have had it. Truth is, under democracy they will implode like Russia did during the first 10 years after the break up of the Soviet Union. Such a free-will system has no place in a society that has been oppressed by govt and religion. In the Arab world, "democracy" equals "the group with the biggest guns"...as we see in Lebanon, Gaza, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
57. #44 - why the Leftist storm when ACORN was revealed?
William ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
When the truth was shown of ACORN through the use of transparency, Left-wingers cried foul, demanded investigations against right-wingers, and even going so far as calling the right "racists". Why do the US Left-wing morons hate transparency? Could it be because their pet projects like ACORN would be in jeopardy? Or that Sen. John Kerry would get busted for parking his yacht in Rhode Island to avoid paying Massachusetts taxes? Or to keep from public knowledge the tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars went to totally re-do Pelosi's office in a district that sees a high unemployment and homeless rate? Sure....who could object to transparency?
58. #48 - There are no altruistic purveyors of truth, Roberto
William ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
Only whoring sycophants with different pay masters. There is no true honest politician - Left or Right, they are all part of a bad system. There is no true human rights group, just people going after low-hanging fruit in order to gain media exposure and additional funding. There are no anti-establishment, anti-globalization socialists/anarchists...just people who want the world to be constructed in their own fashion with them in charge over those they dislike. It's human nature....and Assange as the arrogant self-centered egomaniac he is (his ex-partners' words, not mine) is typical of those who claim to want truth and justice, except only in their own definition and not including themselves....like Michael Moore, George Soros, etc. The leaks simply sounds good to you because you subscribe to their agenda and ideology, making you just another human player on a global chess board...but no one even close to "messiah".
59. Wikiliks on the ME
Pastor Glenn Koons ,   Ca. and USA   (01.01.11)
Kadir: you have the right idea. I would love the jihadist-shria-madresses type overthrown in the ME and pro-democracy leaders and legislatures arise. ATATURK had the right idea in 1919. Blessings for the New Year.
60. #10 - Assange's moral convictions...
William ,   Israel   (01.01.11)
"transparency and fairness"... that is, until the details of his court case were leaked prior to his hearing. The all of a sudden, it was "unfair". Face it, Assange is one of those self-righteous liberals who believe in a Utopian world based on a system that they themselves do not want to be subjected to. How many liberals have you heard over the past year scream about actions "against the law" only to cry when the same law was used against them?
