1. At least the inhabitants of this walled-in
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (01.05.11)
ghetto won't be shipped to the east... at least, not yet.
2. Spinning....
Shmuel ,   Markaz   (01.05.11)
The only actual quote from an Israeli source here was from Olmert (""We will not harm the supply of food for children, medicine for those who need it and fuel for institutions that save lives. But there is no justification for demanding we allow residents of Gaza to live normal lives while shells and rockets are fired from their streets and courtyards (at southern Israel)" ). There is nothing wrong with that. The rest is nothing more than the usual Arabist State Department officials' slanted interpretation.
3. :: Collective punishment of 1.5 million people
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (01.05.11)
How 'humane' of Israel to only bring the Gaza Ghetto to the "brink of collapse". What a shining example to the rest of the world. As Gideon Levy put it: "A state that takes such steps is no longer distinguishable from a terror organization".
4. Why is this News???!!!
gedaliah   (01.05.11)
The government was very open in communicating to us and the world that this was their intention... They wanted to weaken Hamas without causing too much hardship on civilians...
5. Hey, "Israel",
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.05.11)
Man Does Not Live By Bread Alone. "Israel" aimed to keep Gaza economy on brink of collapse, why?! becuse rockets that can't Kill and do not even have warheads on them fired from Gaza...... then NO wonder that many people aimed to eliminate "Israel".
6. Gaza has made war many years
Seppo ,   Finland   (01.05.11)
Israel has to take care of security. But it should cause no problem because southern border to Egypt has been open for all traffic Gaza wants except military materials. Problem is Hamas which wants to keep its population like in a concentration camp. There is no report that the West had delivered any humanitarian help to Germany during WWII. But Israel as the only humanitarian country in the world delivers under rocket fire to the enemy. Hamas interests were clearly visible when they distroyed greenhouses which provideded salaries to well over ten thousand people. It is better to keep population in discipline than develop economy.
7. salma the fake palestinian
David ,   Haifa Israel   (01.05.11)
more like a jordanian refugee and a thug scum terrorist to boot,,, got home thug!!!
8. Group making war not entitled to "normal life"
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.05.11)
Did the UK, at war with an aggressive Germany, make certain the latter led a "normal life"? Did the US when at war with Japan? They did not. Yet Israel is expected to allow Gaza to live that normal life - providing it with food and fuel, allowing free movement and imports of civilian and military goods - even as it engages in a genocidal war against Israel. That's just nuts.
9. Israel left Gaza in 2005 and has no additional obligation
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (01.05.11)
towards this territory whose rulers have declared an armed conflict against the nation-state of the Jewish people. Any goods, any whatsoever passed from Israel into Gaza is a form of a privilege Israel extends towards the population Arab population of the territory, goods the Arabs of Gaza can receive from their other neighbor: the Arab republic of Egypt that borders it.
10. No humanitarian crisis? Then what are we talking about?
leo ,   usa   (01.05.11)
11. #3 Blame Hamas..not Israel
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (01.05.11)
Amend the Hamas Charter to recognize Israel for a start. No more rockets, mortars, suicide bombings = Then we remove the blockade... ...
12. Oh, please. This is news?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.05.11)
Seems to me that the international boycott and economic embargo of Iran severely limits the Iranian economy. Hasn't done too much for it in the way of humanitarian assistance, either. I suppose the same could be said for the embargos and economic boycotts of Myanmar and North Korea. The Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone, too. Hamas has declared itself to be "at war" with "the Zionist entity" (that would be the State of Israel). If they want war, they shall have it, in all of its manifestations, including those with economic repercussions which, admittedly, may be severe. Too bad. Despite Hamas' avowed goal of destruction of the State of Israel, and despite its repeated attacks upon Israeli civilian areas, Israel has bent over backwards to maintain excessive levels of humanitarian aid, which is truly going above and beyond the call of duty. No one seems to care about North Korean civilians (several million have died of starvation), Myanmar civilians (tens of thousands dead), or the serious plight of civilians in the Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. Including Hamas. If the citizens of Gaza don't like it, they are welcome to overthrow Hamas and create something better in its place. Otherwise -- they must make do with the government they elected. That would be Hamas.
13. "Normal Life"
Shmuel ,   Merkaz   (01.05.11)
Do the kids in Sderot get to live a "normal life"?????
14. To No. 3 - Collective Punishment
New Yorker ,   U.S.A.   (01.05.11)
How humane was the British blokade of Germany during the last world war? Was it a shining example to the rest of the world? Oh well, the rest of the world was at it too. Gideon levy who compared a war time blokade to the tactics of a terror organization is a fool and ignoramus, just like you.
15. BBS News still blathering away as "Matty Groves" goofy
GZLives   (01.05.11)
Yeah blather blather spew spew ... meanwhile Egypt has a border, no one is starving and all of it is Horsehockey ... If its so bad then let them leave. As long as rockets are fired, consequences will occur as is only fair and as EVERY country on the planet would do and then some ... right "Matty" ??
16. #7 David , why can't you settle on ONE opinion?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.05.11)
Select your situation, whether I'm a Jordanian or Lebanese! Some times I pity you David, if you're annoying you can leave, I'm here to stay . bye bye ; )
17. punishing gaza for what?
moron ,   galut   (01.05.11)
let me see-maybe because they are hamas?..or the rockets?..or to help abu mazen?..or just for fun!
18. And Gaza Should Be Thankful for the Patience of Israel
Dallas ,   Canada   (01.05.11)
19. Salma will Christian Sites be protected in PLO Jerusalem?
(01.05.11)
20. Let's compare
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (01.05.11)
We have been blockaded by the Muslim nations of the world for the past 62 years and the old has said nothing. We are under no obligation to aid anybody outside our country period, nor is any other nation required to do so. Gaza has a border with Egypt - let them use that. Close our borders - nothing in - nothing out and see how they like that.
21. To the Entity number 5
John ,   US   (01.05.11)
You write the biggest lot of rubbish.
22. Salma, you're neither
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (01.05.11)
Lebanese nor Jordanian - nor "Palestinian". You're someone paid to kick up the dust when it's slow here.
23. #19 of coure YES : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.05.11)
Christian Sites are Palestinian sites as well
24. #21 John, rubbish is what rubbish writes.
(01.05.11)
25. My favourite is "Israel" in quotes
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.05.11)
I like it when posters write "Israel" in quotes to show that they are not quite sure it exists. It is kind of funny. It is also a good way to inflame passions, polarize sides, and deepen commitments, as many "Palestinians" have recognized in the past. But hey -- radicalization is as radicalization does! Happy negationism to all.
26. Operation No Thankyou
Serge ,   Montreal, Canada   (01.05.11)
Perhaps it is time that Israel simply took each Qasam fired from "Palestine", loaded it onto a similar launcher, and sent it right back. Would that be better?
27. Not only is it immoral to expect Israel to take care of Gaza
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (01.05.11)
it is also unethical. Show me any other people except the Jews who are taking care of their worst enemies welfare day in day out asnd all the while the Gazans missiles fly into Israeli population centres. This world is run by sick and twisted 'people'. And right here is defining proof of that global sickness. Let Blair take care of Gaza - he can afford it with all the pensions he has robbed pensioners of for starters, not to mention all the petrodollars he accepts in bribes everyday! Israel must take care of itself as none of it's 'allies' care.
28. 22-I always said that!
(01.05.11)
29. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.05.11)
The law views aggression and criminal behavior basis intent, not efficacy. The mere act of firing missiles into Israel is criminal behavior; where they land or the damage they cause are irrelevant. Israel has an absolute right to retaliate with all means at its disposal -- use of force, economic pressure and blockade. By the way, why is it that so many people wish to eliminate you sorry lot? Has it escaped your notice that a handful of uninfluential Latin American states (all of them very far away) seem to wish to confer statehood upon you, your brother Arabs and Moslems have yet to do so? Have you wondered why? Doesn't bode well for you, bubbeleh, does it?
30. #28 Seadog , rather interesting
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (01.05.11)
that you're writing about a wall the Hamas built by themselves, from a non-existent town in New Jersey Hamas had a very comprehensive plan when it came to the Jews, they were to be driven out, into the sea, it's in their Covenant, try reading it P.S. If they were to be shipped to the east, they would wind up in Jordan, where they belong
