1. EITAN HABER
BENJAMIN ,   SINGAPORE   (01.05.11)
YOU ARE TALKING NONSENSE ! Katsav sinned against the lady who he raped. The courts virdict is independent from media probe. You need not BLAME the Journalist ! Katsav's conviction is possible by a sound Govt lead by Benjamin Nethanyahu that would not compromise any political lobbying. The Attorney General of Israel and the Officers in Chambers are clean and upright and independent. As I have always said Israel is the only DEMOCRATIC NATION among the MIDDLE EAST made it possible for criminal like Katsav to be brought to the Law. And you dont go about finding fault with 63 years of standing. Without apology BENJAMIN Singapore.
2. Haber makes a good point
BJL ,   USA   (01.05.11)
Katsav was a good target for the media. Likudniks always are. If he was Labor...they probably would have let it go like the media did for Bill Clinton. The media is missing the point in one regard. How did Katsav get appointed in the first place? Compare Katsav to Presidents 1 to 7. Seems like the process has gotten corrupt. And Shimon "the dirty trick" Perez? The pusher of the failed Oslo Accords and He allowed the return of the filthy animal Arafat who should have been left in Tunis. He is President? Israel should return to making men of accomplishment and defenders of the State President.
3. Beyond Red Lines
Yosef Goldberg ,   Israel   (01.05.11)
Most newspapers in the western world differentiate between a story filed by a reporter and an opinion written by a columnist. Stories should not reflect the authors opinions, nor his rantings nor ragings. When editors do no observe this rule, the reader absorbs a medley of fact, opinion and fiction purposely fed to him by the newspaper.
4. The Knesset as a Circus
Yosef Goldberg ,   Israel   (01.05.11)
If encouraging draft-dodging is illegal, prosecute them. If labeling soldiers or commanders of the IDF as war criminals is illegal, prosecute the offenders. If funding such activities is illegal, arrest them. Probing leftist groups will become a circus and eventually be rejected by the courts and justifiably so.
5. I'm all for it. The end justifies the means
Yossi ,   Tel Aviv   (01.05.11)
The end is Peace with the Palestinians, an end to occupation, Two States, and a very, very secular Israel. The means may involve what you consider distasteful practices, but our ultimate goals are worthwhile. Our consciences are clear. And what may appear to you as pitting one group of Jews against another is just a way of making sure that those of us who genuinely want peace are not overwhelmed by the oppressive majority that wants to keep the occupation while turning Israel into a truly Jewish state. That's unacceptable! We may be dwindling in numbers but we make up for it with lots of enthusiasm, imagination (who doesn't love a little fiction mixed with facts here and there?) and help from those in influential places. Some may say our campaign aims at "divide and conquer" but that would be too crass. I call it simply making sure that the majority of this country doesn't get too cozy with each other and disrupts our mission. Peace now and always with our Palestinian friends.
6. # 2
Birdi ,   Israel   (01.05.11)
Shimon PERES is his name, not Perez.
7. What c--p!
(01.05.11)
Really, what nonsense! It is always the Mizrahim who whine about ethnic discrimination, who don't let you forget for a second that they are poor, discriminated against Mizrahim. The "street," I would like to remind Haber, is not only what got Netanyahu into office, but what keeps him in office, and nine times out of ten, if anyone ever does their thesis on it, the street is what got Rabin killed. So enough ethnic whining, please. Katsav got what he deserved because he is a serial rapist.
8. Dr. Haber
Ephraim Elfassy ,   Venezuela   (01.05.11)
Your op-ed though could be recommended is terribly unrealistic. In a supposedly multiethnic society, there is though the need for a recognition when the representation of one ethnic group fails from its numerical component in the society.I say a writer is an artist that describes an inspiring reality, a journalist is an anti-artist who disfigures reality so that it justifies its her or his own biasBy the way Mr Haber, President Katsav was the second President, Navon, remember of Moroccan descent.
9. Eitan Haber you have a short memory
SNS   (01.06.11)
Have people really forgotten that the victims of Katsav's sexual violence were crucified by the media? That they were seen as liers, manipulators and all things evil. When I saw the article's title, I though that was what Haber would be writing about. That the media's sins includes crucifying victims, over and over again.
10. I KNOW WHERE YOU SILLY BOYS ARE GOING
BENJAMIN ,   SINGAPORE   (01.06.11)
YOU ARE ALL OUT TOP GET THE PRESIDENT PARDON FROM OLD MAN SHIMON PEREZ, RIGHT ? THAT IS POSSIBLE, BUT CAN HE PARDON ALL SERIAL RAPIST I ISRAEL- INCLUDING THE PALESTINIANS SERIAL RAPIST ? SO WHAT IS THE POSITION OF THE LADY , THE VICTIM OF RAPE ? THE PRESIDENT CAN ONLY ACT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE ADVIS E OF THE CABINET OR OF THE ADVICE OF BENJAMIN NETANYAHU - IT IS ALL A PRINCIPAL CONVENTION IN EXERCISING THE FORMAL LEGAL POWERS TO PARDON QUALIFIED AND IN ACCORDANCE TO ADVIVE OF THE CABINATE :-)
11. This time Eitan Haber is 100% correct
Israeli 2   (01.06.11)
#1 and #8 should get their heads in order. #1 is a moron
12. Is Haber patronizing? Yes, he is!
Michael ,   California, USA   (01.06.11)
I would like to hear this said by a Sefaradi. If an Ashkenazi says it, he/she is patronizing. Believe it, you are showing your Ashkenazi "superiority." You are achieving the opposite of what you have set out to say, Mr. Haber. With your experience, I am surprised you did not know that!
13. Great Article
Christy ,   Boston, US   (01.06.11)
It's not often that anyone in the media publicly states any faults of the media. To have done so should be applauded. In the US, public opinion of the media is at an all time low. It's precisely because most of our media never admit to any bias, any faults in coverage of a story, yet to the consumers the bias and faults are obvious. I think all media, no matter where they are located, would do well to understand this quote, and apply where necessary: "After 63 years and more than two generations, there is no room or reason to note with enthusiasm that Moshe Katsav was our first Mizrahi president or our first Mizrahi mayor and implicitly emphasize: Look how far he made it. "
14. It is well known
m   (01.06.11)
Leftists are the most racists, this is why they scream 'racism' every day, just look into Ynet, daily. Who kept the Sephardim in poverty for years if not the ruling Avoda and Mapam of yore? They were seen as 'religious primitives', no 'tarbut' like the Europeans. This was the reason why they took many of their children, cut their peyot and put them in kibutzim to "progress" them. Now the same left is raising the banner of 'progressive' seekers of 'equality'.
15. Beyond Reasonable Doubt
Max ,   Netanya   (01.06.11)
This case was all about his word versus her word with no solid physical evidence. I dont know if he is guilty or not but reasonable doubt exists inthis case.

Jane   (01.06.11)
There is something about sitting in Sheinkin drinking latte that numbs the brain. It would appear that your "mission" is the destruction of the State so as to preserve your politically-correct, Euro-lefty-wannabe status. As long as Sheinkin survives, the rest of the State be damned.
