Will the gov. be speaking to the Yeshivot and their Rabbim to try make it work?

happen. Take away the welfare teat from all groups save for those who are ill infirm or insane. All the rest have to work, pay taxes and be a contributing member of society. I very much fault all those young ladies who marry these jerk offs who dont want to support them. These women end up suffering in that they have to work to support their lazy jerk off husbands while at the same time having large families. I have a very simple suggestion to these women. Refuse to marry any putz who is not working and who is incapable of supporting a family. Only then will this insanity stop. Its up to the women of Israel to stop this madness. Only you ladies can stop this. In my own case I told my sons that they must have working skills and they must be working before they are to marry.
4. Livni has no shame or sense. No left wing gov has done ANY

-THING remotely close to this. Indeed this is a knesset revolution. This makes the Tall Bill look like mickey mouse. 65%!? From about 1%? Thats huge, and the fanatic leftists who left their thinking brain at the door should reconsider that move. Give credit where credit is due. VERY positive step. I think it may actually be overreaching and I think a slower implementation would be smoother. I tend to think this is TOO redical in too short a time. We dont want civil unrest either, so we need to time to sell the idea and mostly to make sure we understand COMPLETELY the needs of the hareidm. Lets not repeat the mistake of being ARROGANT and condescending to our brothers and sisters who learn more Torah.
5. what was once a small minority...
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (01.09.11)
is now becoming a sizeable factor in Israeli society. The army went along with the draft dodgers since it did not want to make changes to accommodate the haradim. But now as their numbers swell and the seculars either side with the arabs, leave the country or rather take dope than serve, the country must make concessions to keep the army strong.
6. PLEASE DONT UNDER ESTIMATE THE HAREDIM

THE BEST CAN COME OUT OF ANYONE- G-D IS GREAT FRO HE CREATED HUMAN BEINGS AND THE HAREDIM AMONG THE HUMAN RACE..LETS BUILD THEM TOO... FOR I DONT ONE ANY ON LEFT OUT IN TEH NATION BUILDING PROCESS :-)~ TO BENJMAIN NETHANYAHU- WE SAY BRAVO WITH GLADNESS ;-)~
7. they will receive more public money
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.09.11)
It is not clear why Yizhar Hess had to comment, but from his comment he is either ignorant or willfully inciting. Currently, each Haredi receives a pittance. Once they are drafted, as married soldiers with children, they will receive far more money. Add to that the cost of insurance, invalids, transportation and food, and the state will be paying much more. That said, Netanyahu should be praised for finding a good solution for these good people. Now we must hope that the extreme Left won't try to force these soldiers to violate Shabbat, kashrut or separation from women.
8. The chutzpah
Moshe   (01.09.11)
The chutzpah of the secular is becoming unbearable. Haredim were in Israel hundreds of years before the secular invaded. Now they think they can do as they wish with the haredim? Netanyahu’s starting up with orthodox Rabbis will bring about the end of his leadership. Mark my words. Israel had gotten rid of the Turks and gotten rid of the British. We will G-d willing get rid of the secular Zionists too.
9. they study Torah, it protects us!
Arik ,   Guivat yearim IL   (01.09.11)
It brings us Hashem blessing. What do you think, that we deserve to be in Israel if we give up Hashem laws? People who dare say Haredim are lazy are stupid. They work very hard to support many children, and the one who don't study Torah 15 hours a day. I read many comments from Jews who comfortably live in the Galut, and they dare tell the haredim to enlist? Why don't those same Galuth Jews enlist? Not because they study Torah, rather they prefer their $$$$$ and their Galut, and then they criticize....no shame!

Hopefully the Israeli public has grown smarter to realize these old cheating tactics.
11. Haredim
Steve W ,   USA   (01.09.11)
Haredim who hide behind the Torah are Hillul Ha'Shem. There was a time that only true scholars were exempt from the military but today it includes more dodgers than scholars.
12. Rashi=Vitner; Rambam=Physician
Meir ,   Toronto Canada   (01.09.11)
Combat units or National Service is a good solution. It should be extended to Israeli Arabs-particularly to National Service if that is their preference. Also, the Hareidi community has yet to explain how it is that Rashi a vitner and Rambam a physician could practice their professions and be great Torah luminaries as well.
13. Not sustainable
taanug ,   Israel   (01.09.11)
Those that are defending the Haredim need to recognize that their (and the Arabs) population continues to grow at a faster pace than the rest of the population. It's simply not sustainable that so many Haredim will not work. If you don't want the secular Zionists who is going to pay for your studying and who is going to defend you?
14. Work & Pray
Rachel ,   US   (01.09.11)
Why can't the Orthodox work and pray? Orthodox in the US do it.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink - They're born freeloaders guided by their overzealous leaders. You can't make them work or fight if they can get a food and shelter for nothing. Things like loyally and an affection to their motherland or hosting country and countryman outside of their their faith have no place in their life. If you're serious and want to make change , than strip their spiritual leaders of their power and an influence over them first ,...

18. #8 is right
Joe   (01.09.11)
Haredim were in Israel long before the Zionists. It's about time orthodox Jews get rid of the intruders and become the rightful leaders of the Jewish country and run it according to Torah. Who are the secular Zionists to tell haredim what to do just and to recruit them in a secular army just because they invaded the country and made themselves leaders and judges? If they feel that Israel belongs to them as much as it belongs to orthodox Jews, they should prove it. Israel is indeed mentioned in the Torah that it belongs to the Jews. However if the secular Zionists do not want to follow the Torah, what right do they have to this land?
19. haredi draft
nosson tzvi ,   J-M   (01.09.11)
There is no Jewish group in Israel that is so tied together as the haredim. Not many haredim will go against the word of Rabbi Elyashiv. It will be one hell of a job sending police and soldiers to pull the young men out of yeshivot . Before. this ever happens I would hope to be in the next world. Anyhow if a coalition will be able to enforce our ways on them-the next coalition will capitulate because they will need the haredim in order to rule. So folks don't get your hopes up too high to see this done in our lifetime!
20. Why is it a PROBLEM?
OnTheOtherSide ,   USA   (01.10.11)
Cut the funding, let them earn their livelihood like everyone else. The draft should apply to every Israeli citizen Haredi or not, Jew or Muslim. If they are Israeli citizens its time they learn to protect it. If anyone has a problem the door is open, they can find a country that will have them.
21. Tal Law ? Which the Haredim want .Ridiculous!
James ,   Israel   (01.18.12)
What a fine kettle of fish(that stinks to high heaven)..You live in Israel with all its freedom AND BENEFIT you accrue ..your Jewish brothers put their life on the line to defend the country while you haredims want it all free ..Get a life ..You can go to the yeshiva ,pray etc,but it behooves you to understand that you will have to abide by the country's dictum and serve, and defend it with all your might..No freebies for your lot. I am furious even as I write it..
