2. How is it port workers get so much while ...
(01.14.11)
... Foreign Ministry personnel get so little? As a former federal employee who was prohibited from striking (I never had reason to), I'm averse to civil servants exercising the "nuclear option". And I fear the consequences if something happens to an Israeli traveler who needed help but was told to "call the Finance Ministry". But it appears some employees in Israel have the economic power to squeeze the state for yet more, while others can't get anything close to reasonable.
3. im a proud israeli american
pini   (01.14.11)

7. NOT TRUE
DOV GLASS ,   TLV Israel   (01.15.11)
There is a huge distortion going on when you say Diplomats earn 4800 NIS a month... When in actuality during there postings its $4800 (yes thats dollars) and their rent is paid for, their children's swanky private schools are paid for, and their wives are given jobs at the mission. Additionally they have more then 30 days off a year and more sick days then and normal human being she ever be qualified to take!!!!!!!
8. Finance ministry has money only for SHAS
(01.15.11)
No money for life saving medicines, no money for holocaust survivors (let's wait a little longer, many will die by then) , no money for diplomats. But money for Shas, for building in the west bank, etc. pfuiee
9. Stranded in Chile
Susannah ,   Israel   (01.15.11)
Too bad it isnt more!!
10. Insane
G ,   Toronto   (01.15.11)
They are only asking for 25% more?? The Finance Ministry should jump on it. I think it's a shame that these good people are making so little. I have an idea. Why don't we adjust the MK salary to be like the Foreign Ministry salaries. Israel looks more and more like a banana republic then it ever did. And yes, I'm an Israeli and quite a patriot.
11. israelis in chile
das ,   israel   (01.15.11)
why does the government (MFA) have to help tourists?????????
12. to #7 Glass I think you're wrong
Adam Helberg ,   USA   (01.15.11)
A quick Google search of other sources confirms the salary is 4800 shekels not dollars, which is low even for Israel.
13. wait a minute there r 1000 trapped tourists...
(01.15.11)
not all of them are Israelis so why aren't the other governments helping their nationals? Oh! I get it.... It isn't standard operating practice for any of the other governments to assist trapped tourists....so why is it meant to be standard operating practice for Israel's Foreign Ministry to assist its trapped tourists?
14. Trapped Tourists
roxie ,   Israel   (01.15.11)
That is why so many of us have dual citizenship...for just such emergencies it can be handy ! Let's just hope that no lies are lost because of the strike and give these guys a raise.
15. Bibi bought his seat as Prime Minister...
Jeff ,   Maccabim, Israel   (01.15.11)
The price he paid was having Lieberman as his Foreign Minister. He gained a comfortable seat, but is screwing up the country with the worst, most undiplomatic foreign ministry ever, which is damaging Israel, and is in other words "anti zionist"!!
16. #14 Ms dual citizenship in a pinch...
(01.15.11)
Did you know that IF any of the other countries in the world assist you during a personal emergency they first get your credit card number and collect the money up front! Israel, Ms. Dual Citizenship in a pinch, assists people such as yourself for free! In other words Ms. Roxie you aren't very knowledgable are you?
