1. Did Barak hit the jewish wall too hard with his head?
SyrianFreedomEagle   (01.17.11)
Look at the picture! He seems to have headache...
2. Labor will soon be dying with Meeretz
zionist forever   (01.17.11)
As much as I dislike Barak he was trying to modernise the party and the traditionalists who want to stick with traditional Labor values have been making that impossible. He has seen that Kadima is stealing Labor voters and they are a slightly more left of centre party rather than an old fashioned left wing one which Labor has traditionally been. Hw has been trying to reform the party to meet changing political attitudes of the public but his party just don't want to follow. As far as Barak's move of splitting he should have waited till the election is called right now all he achieves is weakening the government he wants to stay part of and will not be if it falls because the new Labor leader pulls out for the kind of ideological reasons that Nitzan Horowitz is gong on about. A four man team will never win any seats at the next election. When Sharon left he took alot more members of Likud and he was on a personal high in the country whilst Barak has just four followers and he is on a low.
3. Yeah Right!
Israel Israeli   (01.17.11)
A bunch of incompetent dim witted baboons. Barak has done nothing to advance any important political agenda. He should create a new party called ‘JustsitONAss’ and it should be ultra right wing. And he should go grow a beard and get lost.
4. If he's not head of Labor, he has no right being Defense Min
Moshe   (01.17.11)
If he's not head of Labor, the Defense Minister should immediately be given to someone else - hopefully someone more appropriate.
5. A new low?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (01.17.11)
How can something lying at the bottom of the abyss reach a "new low"? The country is under the control of egoists of the highest level who are concerned about one thing: power and keeping power. The country has become a theocracy disguised as a democracy and will soon be no different from other fundamentalist states in the Middle East. In short we have Government by the politicians, for the politicians and to hell with the people!
6. Barak Fleas
mba ,   K Lochamei Hagetaot   (01.17.11)
Once again we are witnessing the political egoism taking precedent over the "good of the nation". Another nail in the coffin of political honesty in Land of Milk and Honey.
7. "Israeli Politics hit New Low" ????
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.17.11)
Rubbish !!!! They are going to sink lower and lower...in fact to the depths that will make most of the talkbackers here really happy with the country.
8. Anything that hurts the dictatorial Left
DT ,   TA Israel   (01.17.11)
can only be good. Kadima, Meretz and Labour should join together as there is no difference
9. so what? "glorious past" of the Labor Party:
tom ,   tel aviv   (01.17.11)
barak has had a "glorious past" as well: dressed as a blonde in a daring raid... Look what has become of both of the abovementioned. Sorry you can live on your past only if you're lucky enough to die young. The Party is Kaput, deceased, "it is no more" to quote the immortal John Cleese (now there's somebody who keeps on reinventing himself& staying relevant)....
10. Either change government or let us follow Tunisia's example!
Naomi   (01.17.11)
This government is full of liars like Barak! Shame on them!
11. Livni has no relavance...
gedaliah   (01.17.11)
She is a mouth peace for opposition, that is all. She shows her immaturity whenever she opens her month. She says that Kadima never strayed from its voters and that is because Kadimas ONLY agenda was to force the Jewish People in Gush Katif from their homes. They have no other agenda so please keep talking Livni, the more you talk the less votes you will get next election...
12. Livni's suggestionis a shocker
Jew ,   Israel   (01.17.11)
Perhaps she's forgoten but after Kadima rightfully won the majority vote in the last elections, her own party shafted her preferring to let Bibi head the government than to let her lead the nation. Elections won't bolster her position. She's lining herself up to be another Peres, "the Eternal Loser"
13. close israel and be done
US ,   US   (01.17.11)
Israel is too much of a problem for the US. Israeli politics?! That's like the shuk. The entire country is a disgrace to the civilized world. US most stop all support for israel once and for all. Let israelis sink or swim on their own. I bet they will sink!
14. Livni: Being a Hypocrite par excellence doesnt make u stand
John ,   US   (01.17.11)
out in politics. Its obvious you scream for attention. Livni are you "only interested in power"? I thought a selflless bundle of joy like youself was against selfish moves? O I forgot, everyone elses selfish move. Right, Bee Yatch? Making yourself 12 kilomaters wide is not wise, and being hypocritical does not make you stand out in politics
15. If Livni doesn't like, it probably means it's something good
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (01.17.11)
Let her wait another couple of years for new elections, like everyone else.
16. Livni tried to form narrow govt with meretz what hypocrisy
jason ,   haifa israel   (01.17.11)
At least this govt has 61 mk's and a majority without labor and livni talks about legitimacy. Livni is a walking talking hypocrite.
17. barak has just ended his political career
zionist forever   (01.17.11)
Without Labor Barak is a one man show and he is on a new low in terms of popularity so nobody is going to elect him. Labor won't forgive him so he cant go crawling back begging forgiveness. Kadima doesn't want him. Barak is ambitious and Livni already has enough to worry about with the ambitious Shaul Mofaz the last thing she wants is Barak. The public are also not going to start voting Labor again just because Barak is gone because in Israel's system people vote for the party based on its policy they don't vote for individual MKS. If Ben Eliezer wants to make Labor an old fashioned socialist party again then his party is going to stay in the political wilderness. GOODBYE BARAK I CANT SAY IT WAS NICE KNOWING YOU.
18. Livni tried to form govt with 60 mk's and with meretz
jason ,   haifa israel   (01.17.11)
Talk about hypocrisy livni tried to form a govt with 60 mk's after olmert resigned. At least this govt has 61 mk's and a majority on the right as its foundation. Yet livni talks about a lack of legitimacy. Livni is a walking talking hypocrite.
19. Zippi,forget about it,you will never become PM
chaim.s ,   brooklyn ny   (01.17.11)
The people of Israel will never vote for a self hating traitorous, enemy colaborating leftist
20. Livni-Peretz gov't is ready
Moshe ,   Netanya   (01.17.11)
for war.
21. #13 You win the prize for stupidity
Sidney ,   USA   (01.17.11)
1. Given the horrible state of American politics, how can you criticize Israel's? The Republicans in Congress insist that they will not vote for increasing the debt ceiling which must be done by the end March. If it is not done, the economy of the U.S. and the rest of the world will tank. 2. American aid is 10% of Israel's gross domestic product and they can live without it. Most American aid is spent on weapons purchased from U.S. companies. 3. From CIA fact book: GDP - per capita (PPP): $29,500 (2010 est.). Compare U.S. $46,381. Israel has the 41 largest GDP ahead of Chile, Philippines, Pakistan, etc with their larger populations. 4. Israel has enough military power to wipe out human life on this planet. 5. Contrary to your hopes, Israel is not going away.
22. RADICAL ATHEIST LEFTISTS are the ENEMY
Jason   (01.17.11)
23. peace with who
alexi   (01.17.11)
cut the slogans. Livni is olmert's twin, both failed leaders mouthing old peres slogans that lost the lebanon war.Concessions are the platform of livni with rockets hitting tel aviv and ben gurion airport. And nato and the UN will protect israel-don't make me puke. Herzog says lets get down to social work-he admits he is a social worker and nothing else. He, braverman and kadima should absorb meretz as olmert was left of meretz. And they will sit in opposition for many years till they break up. Livni has no chance of ever being elected PM> she made her bed witholmert and she is stuck with his legacy.
24. Problem is the Russians and extremist settler thugs
Moshe ,   Haifa   (01.17.11)
What is happening to our dear country? It seems some people take the Israeli state for granted. What would Ben Gurion say had he been alive today? This country is quickly sinking to fascist, racist hands that will ultimately ruin our last chance for a 2-state solution. Personally I took measures in California and preparing for the worse
25. modern day false prophets of left
Marcel ,   Florida   (01.17.11)
The failed left and their delusions which have only weakened Israel and strengthening the enemy are the last to know they are finished. The loser Barak has left the corpse of Labor and Kadima's weakness of surrender and appeasement for no peace will also bring it down. The public see thru the lies of Israel's modern day false prophets who peddle delusions about peace and weaken the nation.
26. #24. Moshe: good plan!
Thomas ,   Dixieland USA   (01.17.11)
You will feel at home in California, which is run by self-loathing, anti-Israel Jews, the Commies in Hollywood, Obamabots and the Soros Co. Russian and other E. European Jews drained the swamps at the birth of the nation. The Bolshevik Jewish plutocrats in the US collected the dividend from the stock mrkt. and spawned Marxism meantime. You will fell happy in CA. Your kind of people. ?Habla Espanol?
27. So 2yrs till next election or can coalition last?
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (01.17.11)
Is Israel tearing itself a part or simply reorganization?
28. To #13 and #21
Dan S. ,   USA   (01.17.11)
I agree that the aid should be cut off. The actual percentage of Israel's GDP is actually around $3 Billion (I looked it up and the total was slightly less. GDP is over $209 billion, so aid is around 1.4%. (not 10%, unless the decimal point got misplaced) Figure in that the aid itself impedes the development of the military industrial sector, and that with its cessation you're looking at the possibility of a higher GDP as a result, and Israel is not likely to fade away - more likely just the opposite.
29. to##24&26
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (01.17.11)
Just who did you mean are the fascists, that ISrael is falling into their hands, moshe?! Israel isn't the Homeland of Jews like you..You have no clue of who were the first Chalutzim and when, but you know to see an enemy in a Jewish Israeli, who loves Israel enough to defend it as a minister and not give up precious Jewish land for more terror ?! There is nothing extremist about it. If Israel's enemies hate him, then he is an excellent Leader already ! Talking about 2 state solution? Don't you think, that there need to be 2 partners that want the same thing for that? Just take the advise of Thomas@26 and start packing asap...Excellent information and advice, Thomas@Dixieland.
30. #28 Your number seems correct
Sidney ,   USA   (01.17.11)
I checked other than my original source and found U.S. aid to Israel about 1.5% of GDP. It seems to me that the main use of it is symbolic, to show that Israel is still loved. The Israeli economy would not miss it.
