1. A Leftist/Arab coalition
Rachel ,   US   (01.18.11)
Loserville.
2. Additional clarification.
Jules   (01.18.11)
Avraham Burg, you forgot to add to the list of your ideas an inevitable consequence of a new "peace process": the 3rd intifada. Why am I convinced that its inevitable ? Because there was the Oslo Peace Agreement, and then the 2nd intifada followed. And the great Jew Albert Einstein once expressed that insanity is attempting to obtain DIFFERENT results taking one and the same action ("peace talks" in this case).
3. The left is not the solution but the problem
Mel ,   Chicago   (01.18.11)
4. Woow : )
Salma ,   Palestine   (01.18.11)
woow... that's simple indeed !! Go ahead.
5. morning... no, no left...
eporue ,   europe   (01.18.11)
a moderate, center party is needed... the left can form that, but they have to get realistic... they aint, imo... what you mean with "full jewish-arab partnership without any buts" ? sorry, but israel has to be accepted as a jewish state ! and the other thing is: jerusalem has to be the jewish capital. that are the main issues. and - if you would think about it (yes, you obviously havent) - then it would become crystal clear, that without those two points, there cant be a lasting agreement. and - yes - this is CENTER. i know, you wont understand, but its in fact totally simple and logical.
6. "...Democracy for all citizens..."
eporue ,   europe   (01.18.11)
thats the point - you have to say good-bye to. israel can be an "almost" democracy, but not a real one. it doesnt fit the state what it is, wants to be, nor what its citizen want. "democracy" and a "jewish state" are incompatible. then so it is, and admit to it. but, NOT to be a "100 %" democracy, doesnt mean, the citizens are (must be) treated unjust.
7. as long as a party says: "no jewish state"
eporue ,   europe   (01.18.11)
you can hold your speeches in the animal shelter - same effect... the left is against a jewish state. this will never work.
8. Platitudes. Mere words!
Jenny Bernstein ,   USA   (01.18.11)
And tell me o oracle. 'Complete end to the occupation' and how do you propose to suddenly reverse Arab/ Palestinian rejectionism, incitement and hatred and prevent the Hamas Islamic dictatorship (and Iran) from taking over even more of the West Nank? We await your empty rhetoric with baited breath!
9. To #8: You misunderstood Burg
Moshe ,   Netanya   (01.18.11)
He is for Hamas. He wants more hamas, less this weak Abu Mazen. Have a good time.
10. at least he is open about his agenda
eddie ,   copenhagen Dk   (01.18.11)
like ahmadinejad, Burg is open about his agenda, and ironically they have a similar agenda. When Peres and rabin were in power, they were not open bout their agenda, and meanwhile were consortign with the PLO in Oslo, and meretz. Such an alliance as Burg wants, is to be welcomed. It would assign the left to the annals of history.
11. Are there any who still pay attention to Burg?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.18.11)
I'd love to see the leftist Jews and Arabs try to get together and form a consensus. Heck, even Labor alone couldn't speak with one consistent message. Throw in the opportunists of Kadima, the pseudo-Zionists of Meretz, the anti-Zionists of the Arab parties and the communists of Hadash and watch them go at each other. Burg has abandoned the principles and good sense of his father. He now lives in a progressive dream land of his own imagination. Face it Burg, the left has been discredited. However they slice and dice their coalition they'll still remain a minority.
12. I say yes
Kibbutznik ,   Israel   (01.18.11)
" Say it clearly: Full Jewish-Arab partnership, without any “buts.” Democracy for all citizens. A complete end to the occupation, without any deals and sophisticated formulae, without blocs, and without leftovers. And a truly social economy. Turn your backs to Barak and establish the Labor-Meretz-Hadash coalition. Embark on a new path. A large leftist bloc against all the rest. Then we’ll see how well they fare against us. " Yes, yes and yes again ..... go for it Avraham Burg , you got my vote for it.
13. Wake up and smell the coffee, Burg, there is no left!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.18.11)
Not only is Burg long gone from the Knesset, he's long gone from political reality if he says: "The time has come to establish a real alternative featuring an incisive, precise, and bold Left." Sorry, but I haven't come across any inspiring leaders on the left like that in many years. They've all been chased away by the new age politically incorrect screechers. The left is NOT waking up. They will NOT join forces and nobody is going to lead the left to any "new way". The left is stuck in the desert, worshipping their golden calf of Oslo, unable to see that it's a false god. There is nothing to make us think that after Meretz disappears in the next elections that Meretz leaders won't again get up in front of the microphones and blame everybody else but themselves for their demise. We need a true social democratic left in Israel. All we're left with is the "peace camp", and the voters keep saying no, Israel does not want a "peace camp" - we want social democrats who are concerned with the country, and also have the peace process on their agenda, not as the only thing on their agenda.
14. #12 please explain
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.11)
What are you offering the Arabs that is different than offered by Barak or Olmert? Do you accept unlimited Arab immigration into whatever land is left for Jews to live in? Do you accept cancellation of "Aliyah"? If the answer to either of these is "no" then you have no solution. If your answer is "yes", please say so.
15. Natanyahu will never bring peace to Israel
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (01.18.11)
The right is becomming more and more radicalized which will only isolate israel and eaken it in theinternational community. I large peace block is needed that will include all Israelis jews and arabs.
16. Yes bring on Oslo 2 get the suicide bombers Kassams etc.
Norman   (01.18.11)
The country has gotten to its senses and the cynical left is abhored by the great makority.
17. I assume "large" means more than a couple of people
Danny   (01.18.11)
18. what left from the Israeli left?
ghostq   (01.18.11)
just wondering the irony in the pan.
19. Israel's dumbest camp should form one large dumb camp
Zev ,   USA   (01.18.11)
The loser camp
20. my dream....
female ,   TA/Amsterdam/Ramalla   (01.18.11)
A left Geovernment who would immidiately agree on a Palestinian State within the 1967 borders. Seperate State & Religion in Israel, so Israel will be a true Democracy. Stop giving money to the Haredim, let them work as any Israeli citizen. Legalize soft drugs, allow civil marriage etc....Inshalla...Amen
21. To 14: I say YES to both of them !!
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (01.18.11)
And what you call "unlimited Arab immigration", I call it "Right of Return to their lands"
22. #21 Gregg
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (01.18.11)
Gregg, as a Muslim Arab it is not surprising you advocate the destruction of Israel. This is not new. I posed the question to #12, someone who is supposedly a Kibbutznik, to know of he wants to join you in genocide. You see, a party like Burg proposes and #12 supports will have to publicly address these issues.
23. Detached assessment from a
Iris ,   USA   (01.18.11)
detached reality. The Labor split was obvious for months with Braverman etc yelling for pullout and anti Barak, as Barak warned of consequences. The journalists may be surprised. Only the timing and manner-both clever- pulled the rug out from Livni and others. Suspect Bibi while adroitly dodging Obama, wrestling with Iran, focusing on economy, enlarged work force will next get to education and infrastructure development as part of the plan. Lieberman & Bibi work well together. While the left press brays the public goes more to right
24. The country is really dry so I cant figure out where Burg ..
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (01.18.11)
gets his smoke!
25. What burg and the left want is not healthy
jason white ,   afula,israel   (01.18.11)
for Israel. The left is slowly disappearing and probably would be gone from the political scene if we took away the right to vote from those that never served in the I.D.F. burg is a good reason why the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of politicians should be banned from politics.
26. Left a small and every shrinking block, thankfully.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.18.11)
The Israeli left has two basic problems. The first is that it is infallibly wrong on every major issue and it's actions are disastrous for Israel. From appeasement, freeing terrorists to Oslo, fleeing South Lebanon, Disengagement to... everything. The second problem, of the Israeli left, is that Israelis are on to it. Israelis are fed up with ourr centre right country being undemocratically dominated by leftists. Israelis demand an end to this intolerable situation. The left is a small and ever shrinking block, thankfully. But it can't disappear fast enough.
27. I Thought
Sandy ,   NYC   (01.18.11)
I thought hallucinogens were illegal in Israel, I guess Mr. Burg was able to smuggle some in on his diplomatic passport.
28. To 22
Gregg ,   Haifa, IL   (01.19.11)
Too bad for you pal ! I am neither Muslim, nor Arab... Try again
29. There is nothing
Sagi   (01.19.11)
left of the left and it is time they left.
30. Avraham Burg
Michael ,   Haifa   (01.19.11)
I agree with everything he said here, but I just don't trust him as a person
