1. water price
peter ,   a'dam NL   (01.20.11)
1 Litre = 0.001 m³ So 2 NIS for 1000 litres of water...that is very cheap. 0,2 agorot per litre. That can't be right or I'm overlooking something :-).
2. Sure, let's burn more carbon to make water!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (01.20.11)
One, day my fellow citizens will wake up and realize that a few people got really rich from building and running mega-desalination plants. At the same time, we could have cut our consumption by 50% or more, and not needed these super expensive mega-energy burning gifts to industrialists.
3. Israel is on the rise and rising fast
Al   (01.20.11)
While the Arab world seems to be stuck on stupid and cant seem to get their heads out of their ass, Israel in spite of boycotts and such is steaming towards 1ST World status. Indeed much of the so called western world is on a downward spiral thanks to deindustrialization, and excessive government intervention. Israel in a very short time to come will be amongst the new economic powers of China, Brazil and India. The power of Israel lies in its ability to innovate. The economic hubs of China, Brazil and India will need Israel to fine tune processes in manufacturing and design. The old west (USA CANADA GB FRANCE and GERMANY) will be relegated to excessive nanny statehood with printing presses printing worthless paper.

laundry every other day? That way we can save 50%. Perhaps we can build more desalinization plants and cut back on the water wasted on local gardens. Get the local authorities to stop planting and watering gardens.Give out large fines for using garden hoses to wash cars or to clean up the entrances to houses.
5. Brian, most think it's worth the carbon
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (01.20.11)
A century ago Israel wasn't supporting 1/10 the population it currently does. Do you think today's population can be supported without water? I agree that cutting consumption is PART of the solution, but per capita consumption is already down from two decades ago due to conservation and water reuse (gray water). But it is only part of the solution and, absent adequate rain, desalination is the only solution. Yes, we should be using the most environmental energy solution available, and right now that comes from gas. And if generated on-site, one avoids the current situation where plants don't run 24/7 due to peak power pricing. Long term, the solution is on-site nuclear batteries. (Toshiba and Hyperion both have designs under review.)
6. Al, when are you making aliya?
Judah ,   Golan Heights,ISRAEL   (01.20.11)
Whats happening in Montreal with these anti-semitic attacks on Jewish institutions. As a former Canadian , whose parents still live in Canada I find this very disturbing.
7. #2 You know what Brian, you're right.
Etoile ,   Montreal, CAN   (01.20.11)
I am afraid we human beings don't realize the harm we are doing to nature. Few realize that the human being is an unnatural creature and that mother nature is a sacred being which must be protected and cherished at the expense of our feeble needs. We must indeed cut consumption in water, but we can't stop there. We have to cut electricity, factories, etc... until we reach a form of existance where we are in tune with nature as our fellow animals are. All to protect the sacred carbon levels that are more valuable than water and we must burn the witches called industrialists who even dare to provide services such as their blood water at the expense of sacred mother earth. Innovation is the tool of the devil! Nature is more important than humans, we must kill the least able of us so that only the worthy who properly live according to the mystical idea may live. Listen you monkey, I'll take that water over your death-cult mysticism any day of the week! And if its money you have a problem with, come up with a machine or idea to solve the water problem and give it for free. Until then, go back to the dark ages.
8. #6 Judah Let me tell you a story
Al   (01.20.11)
There are three kinds of people in this world 1) Those who make things happen 2) Those to whom things happen 3) Those who haven't got a friggin clue as to whats happening. I'd to think the the Jews who founded the State of Israel in 48 made things happen. They were the leaders who understood what was going on. Today we live in a world of Twitter, Facebook, porn and cyber relationships. Thus there seems to be no need for innovation and thought. We can all relax and observe. And so it is with the events that happened this past weekend in Montreal where 6 Jewish institutions were attacked. #3 People observe the events with their fingers up their ass pretending it never happened. #2 People end up getting it in the neck for they were once #3 People. #1 People read the message loud and clear..Its time to get a movin.(YOu did..You're a #1 person.) For me its just a matter of time. Montreal for me is over..Its done.
9. Stop with this stupid overgreen-talking
Yossef   (01.20.11)
let's be smart, and we are, this is the best we can do. We need 4 other such water plants to get the Jordan back to what it used to be, the ocean is an almost infinite source of water, let's use it.
10. Recycling waste water
Raphael ,   Netanya   (01.21.11)
is the largest supply source for israeli irrigation. Palestinian hostile answer could be to stop urinating.
11. recycling water
i ,   jerusalem   (01.22.11)
water from shower/bath, laundry, and kitchen, with little tweaking can be used again. The Australians figured out how to do this with buckets. We have to build billion dollar plants.
12. water recycling
i ,   jerusalem   (01.22.11)
water from shower/bath, kitchen, and laundry can be reused/interchanged with minor tweaking. The Australians figured out how to do this with buckets. We need to build billion dollar plants. We are a stupid and lazy people to ignore the simple waste and leakage.
