Europe practically invented realpolitik.
3. Hamas
Sol ,   Toronto   (01.31.11)
There are reports on another website (debka) that Hamas troops under the direction of the muslim brotherhood have engaged Egyptian troops in combat in the northern Sinai. This would be the reason for Egyptian troop movements. There are also reports that the UN peace observers are waiting to be evacuated. Has anyone seen similar reports elsewhere?

Yesterday Israel National News reported at least one battle in Sinai with 10-20 deaths between Bedouins and the Egyptian occupation troops.
6. @3 hamas
yousuf ,   USA   (01.31.11)
think logically, neither the MB nor hamas would want to take responsibility for waging war against egyptian troops. as much as they would like to see regime change, such an act would ruin relation with other countries.
7. If this Israeli government allows it,

10. The ELS Torah code matrix on El Baradei
Rivkah   (01.31.11)
includes the following: "ElBaradei, a great cry throughout all the land, of Egypt, a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, he shall do all that proceeds out of his mouth." Looks like Hosni Mubarak will lose this battle and Mohamed El Baradei will win. Beware that the Muslim Mahdi is named Mohammed. Watch to see if Egypt subdues three countries nearby which is a clue to the leader of the coming attack on Israel. It is someone who first subdues three countries before attacking Israel.
11. will they keep the border secure? no more illegals? great!

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.31.11)
Mameleh, the Moslem Brotherhood and Hamas are universally acknowledged to be terrorist organizations. As things escalate out of control in Egypt, how long do you think Israel will wait to take back the Sinai AND clean out the rat's nest in Gaza? Answer: Not too long. Trust me.
13. UN leaving?
Madeleine ,   Rehovot Israel   (01.31.11)
"There are also reports that the UN peace observers are waiting to be evacuated. If true we all know what that means. the UN are ever quick to run if they see "real" fighting/war coming.
14. Can somebody tell me ....
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (01.31.11)
for which reason Israel agrees some Egyptian troops In Sinai.
15. Will Israel retake the Sinai peninsular?
michael redbourn ,   arad israel   (01.31.11)
If the Muslim Brotherhood takes over in Egypt one of the first things that it has vowed to do is to tear up the peace treaty with Israel. So Israeli leaders must already be thinking about retaking the Sinai Peninsular which was returned in exchange for the peace treaty. Retaking the Sinai would not be a problem militarily especially after what is taking place in Egypt right now, and it would give Israel a buffer with Egypt, oil, and would seal off arms that are getting to Gaza. Yep, like Rahm Emanuel says, "Don't waste a good crisis" ...

17. HUH? No shred of evidence any Gaza arms pass through Sharm!
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (01.31.11)
Israel should demand that Egypt place these 800 troops as a barrier around the perimeter of Egyptian Rafah, about a 4 mile semi-circle one mile West of the town - shutting off ALL smuggling into Gaza and the Rafah area tunnels. 800 troops in Sharm serve no purpose at all, no weapons for Gaza ever passed through this tourist town, they're all off-loaded from ships in Suez and trucked through the Sinai interior. Egypt likely wants combat troops in Sharm to mount a holding action against an IDF retaking of Sinai if an anti-Israel regime in Cairo replaces Mubarek and renounces the peace treaty with Israel (a violation legally entitling Israel to take back the Sinai). Israel should not be cooperating with this Egyptian charade. There must be a firm clock for these 800 Egyptians to leave.
18. Why I Don't Worry About Muslims.
Edwin ,   Canada   (01.31.11)
The whole Muslim world has proven to be a shinning example of reasonableness and level-headed thinking. Over the centuries, they have repeatedly shown a propensity to improving of the human condition of their not-so-fortunate neighbors. Their love for life and ebullient demeanor make them a pleasure to be counted among one's true friends that can be trusted not to take advantage of another's vulnerabilities. We trust that these wonderfully honest people will merge from this tiny crises stronger and wiser, if that were possible, in the sure knowledge of the superiority of their loving deity. A happier, more contented people than the Muslim you will not find anywhere.
19. How innefective is the UN? Watch the forces run like mice.
Yaawqove ,   Israel   (01.31.11)
And THAT is why Israel trusts no one, the UN, the EU, the US, but themselves. They have 2000 years of being raped and murdered and humiliated at the hands of the church and of Islam. Then they met the great athesist in Nazi germany, and no one prevented 75% of Europes Jews from being gassed and turned into lampshades for nazi officers. No to 8 mile wide Israel minus Judea and Samaria (west bank). 8 miles wide is suicide. Jordan was and is Palestine.

22. they want to protect mubarak who is hiding
tea man ,   marjayoun   (01.31.11)
In sharm alshiek these troops cannot stop smuggling or fight the bedouin they too small for that mubarak is over and fighting like fish out of water but he want to die next to Israel that he serve for so long
23. A very, very, very bad idea.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.31.11)
The last thing Israel should establish, in these turbulent times, is a precedent of allowing Egyptian troops in the Sinai. Who is to say there will only be 800? Suppose there are 8,000 or 80,000 or more. What will Israel do about it? Complain to the U.N.? The foolishness of many Israeli leaders is more frightening than Israel's enemies. This is a very, very, very bad idea.

26. To: No. 20
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.01.11)
The United States will not be able to stop it. Israel has always made it very clear that when it comes to existential matters, it will do what it must. With Egypt teetering on the brink, the United States would be very disinclined to stop Israel from taking back the Sinai. Israel is the only stable ally that the United States has in the region.
