Even though the Hamas does not hold elections (they don't know how, Fatah was in charge during the election) they would like to be recognized and have elections restored, starting with the overdue election for the presidency of the PA. In the meantime though they have learned a lot about ruling a constituancy that elected them. Their fanatical fatwa's have been reduced to "recommendations only" - after they learned that their constituants are not fundamental in religious issues but only in the arena of accepting the Jewish State. Realizing that their constituants just want iPods, viagra and jobs, they allow female attourneys to enter court in the clothing they please and men drink alchohol in public. At a certain point, after remaining fundamental to their cause for over forty years, despite remaining in the opposition, the effects of democracy began to corrupt their fundamental stance. iPods and viagra soon outweighed the fundamental rejection of Israel, and the search for a better economy they turned to Israel about six months ago and said they were ready to sit down at the negociating table. It could have worked out, and it's not too late. But we would have to be ready to restart the peace negotiations from square one and tear up the Oslo Accords.
