1. A compelling story. If it proves authentic,
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (02.03.11)
then you can bet that this poor man continues to suffer from the PTSD he initially experienced in Egyptian prisons so many years ago. His story makes the protesters appear to be errant children.
2. story "twisted"..."difficult"... errr...yes...
eporue ,   europe   (02.03.11)
3. Israel as the light
Rick ,   Raanana, Israel   (02.03.11)
I feel for this man and all others who live with such brutality. However this is also the reason why we can never build a bridge between these 2 societies. It is inconceivable that the Jewish nation state will ever descend into such a state of nature.
4. Good thing 80,000 Egyptian Jews were thrown out
Sami ,   New York, USA   (02.03.11)
Though the 80,000 Egyptian Jewish refugees suffered when we were forced to flee Egypt, it seems that G-d was with us.
5. true second to last paragraph
(02.03.11)
the israeli arabs are 'riding' the Egyptian sentiment to push their own agenda. they don't know nor care about the Egyptian goals.
6. We have prisons full of people just him.
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (02.03.11)
They all claim to innocent. They are falsely accused and never committed a crime in their lives. I'm sure that Mubarak was the one beating him while he was in prison. Mubarak had nothing better to do with his time. Don't you think this guy would be after his so called friends who gave him up to the police for their offense of rape? How is this the fault of the government of Egypt that he had friends who falsely sent him to prison for their crimes? He needs to go after the perpetrators of the crime who had him committed to prison in the first place.
7. #6
GUH   (02.03.11)
Read the article again: the "friends" (may God punish them and reward this man) were rich- their fathers were high ranking officials in the government, so they can get off free. If he, a poor man who has absolutely no power or say in this corrupt system, dares try and seek justice against the other two, he will only end up in an even worse situation. Mubarak and his cronies are to blame for having kept Egypt a corrupt, miserable place for the last 30 years despite promises to make it otherwise.
8. You're worse than Mubarak
Salma   (02.03.11)
shame on you , go back to your homeland , hey hypocrite!
9. #6 and #7
Gab y ,   Boston, MA   (02.03.11)
The guy might be trying to exonerate himself, indeed, he might have been part of the gang and knew what his apartment was used for. Mubarak is not personally responsible, but he did not do much to clear the swamp of corruption.
10. #6 has a point
Annie ,   Israel   (02.03.11)
Sometimes the people of a society are just as much to blame as the governement.
11. #8 Salma true face and agenda: palestinian propaganda!
STEPHAN ,   YAFFO   (02.03.11)
12. pyramids
Biggus dickus ,   wome   (02.03.11)
Dear Egypt,    Please don't destroy the pyramids. We won't rebuild. Signed The Jews
13. to #8
Dave from Brazil ,   Sao Paulo   (02.04.11)
Salma, who exactly are you talking to? Is it Amir, the man who was interviewed? Why is he a hypocrite and why is he worse than Mubarak? I am confused.
14. and he ruined the life of a women...
eporue ,   europe   (02.04.11)
the first blunder comes with "I wasn't born to a wealthy family"... they own an (empty) apartment in alexandria, a patch of land on sinai, could pay 25,000 dinars bail - and give it away for his escape, could pay lawyers for his defense, had the financial means to purchase faked documents for dubai etc... ...when he says, he got - obviously after sentenced for rape - out on BAIL after three years (why that?), but KNEW, he would have to go back to jail (despite of all his lawyers), then it could also sound, that there was quite hard evidence against him, and that it was HIS family who took advantage of the corrupt system...
15. You are all missing the point
Israeli 2   (02.04.11)
This article is a belated one in support of the Muslim Brotherhood. Before even reading it, I knew of what event it referes to.
16. also in israel, only money talks...
somebody   (02.03.11)
believe me.
17. I don't buy his story
Yossef   (02.04.11)
18. To #16
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (02.04.11)
Money and sociel position didnt help Katsav. If this story is true, it is very shocking. I also worry about who will eventually take over Egypt, but I dont blame the people there for what they have done. I think they are braver than the Iranians who backed down when the cops started shooting.
19. Plz!, revise Egypt's reproduction rate
observer   (02.04.11)
Yesterday Egypt was 70 millions, but today it is 80+ millions?
20. Israel as the light
Diamond ,   lagos, Nigeria   (02.04.11)
what a touching story,I think its clear to the whole world that dictatorship and radical islam cannot guaranty the freedom of arab people, israel remains a beacon of light in a sea of islamic nations that treat their own people with pain and agony.
21. #4 Egyptian Jews
observer   (02.04.11)
in the aftermath of tte 1956 British-French-Israeli war on Egypt, it confiscated property belonging to British, French citizens including Jews and it did not order Egyptian Jews to go out of Egypt. An Egyptian Jewish immigrant who arrived in Israel in 1956 told a Jerusalem Post reporter that, "Egypt is our country; we have no other. Our fathers were here [in Egypt] as long as any Muslims." Deporting from Egypt tens of thousands Jews was more human than what other communities went through in other parts of the world. Further more, about one-third of all Egyptian Jews resettled in Israel; others reestablished their communities in Europe and the Americas. Exodus from Egypt was the best thing happened in their life for Egyptian Jews were much luckier than Russian and other Jews in that respect.
