1. well this proves it as far as I'm concerned
Ben ,   Israel   (02.17.11)
religious people are 100% insane. And as for taking taking the poor bird to a butcher..,,wtf is that all about?
2. took it to a slaughterer? what a dunderhead, leave it alone,
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (02.17.11)
it did nothing to hurt them, it is just one of Hashem's creatures.
3. Sign of the dove
NYC Girl   (02.17.11)
Hopefully, the reason the dove was taken to a slaughterer had nothing to do with its suitability to end up as Shabbat dinner, but instead was done for the purpose of determining its "credentials." Because if any of these people could even think about murdering this poor bird, I'd like to get on the next plane to Israel and personally wring all their necks.
4. wait till before Yom Kippur & do Kappara with it!
(02.17.11)
Because surely this holy bird will carry away the Yeshiva boys sins of Avodah Zarah!
5. That's nothing...there's a white dove at the Western Wall
(02.17.11)
on the Women's Side. Its been there for years listening to all of our prayers and carrying them to heaven! Yay! really!
6. This is the dove that took king David
Israeli 2   (02.17.11)
on Shavuot. The son of David, King Shlomo will return soon.
7. idiots...
Nadav ,   tlv   (02.17.11)
i am embarrassed that there are such ignorant, superstitious, medieval thinking Jews in our country. it's a disgrace- a direct result of decades of government tolerance and funding of a backward "haredi" and so-called "orthodox" school system. I hope there will be more articles like these that correctly expose these deviants in our society so that the majority will strip them of their special privileges and force them to learn modern science, technology, Hebrew literature and philosophy- PRY OPEN THEIR MINDS!
8. To Nadav, #7
Yoni R. ,   Modiin, Israel   (02.17.11)
Try prying open your mind to the fact that there are things in this world which are not covered by modern science, technology, etc. Yes, they should open their minds a bit, but so should you.
9. What the hell are you smoking, #4? Say NO to drugs!
John ,   Europe   (02.17.11)
10. #1 & 7: Haredi / Ultra-Orthodox not same as Orthodox
Disgusted w/Xn hatrs ,   Israel   (02.17.11)
Stop smearing the Orthodox!
11. I'm not smoking anything! Its called cynicism!
#4   (02.17.11)
My apologies if I wasn't clear about that!
12. Thank god there are secular Israelis
(02.17.11)
Otherwise we wouldn't have survived a day with these backward lunatic.
13. #11 Always some posters can't grasp cynicism or sarcasm
(02.17.11)
They need a punctuation mark at the end that TELLS them it's sarcasm, perhaps ~
14. #13 thank you and ....
(02.17.11)
in Spanish ~ is the sound "enyeh" and when a spanish speaker says "neyeh, neyeh, neyeh" he/she is poking fun at someone. So maybe that is how the ~ got to be the sign for cyncism? What say you?
15. 12 Also the other way round.
ORA ,   Jerusalem   (02.17.11)
The two communities complete each other.Secular Judaisme would not survive centuries, as it did thanks to the Orthodoxe more than 3000 years.
16. All The Cynics
Moshe Pesach Geller ,   Yerushalayim, Israel   (02.17.11)
I am only cynical about cynics and Americans. That you all have lost your sense of wonder and no longer have hearts for the non-rational, well better you than me. You ain't gonna understand what you don't wanna know. Remember, the mind and heart are like a parachute: They only function when they're open.
17. Yonah
Jonah   (02.17.11)
The Jews believe that it is Yonah and refers to Noah's dove and Jonah the Prophet. To Christians it is symbolic of the Holy Spirit.
18. Holy Dove
Alex ,   RSA   (02.17.11)
It's a Mossad spy. Recently recruited to join the vultures, sharks, & squirrels !
19. 14 sounds good to me
(02.17.11)
"The" sarcasm sign proposed about a year ago resembles a script teit if I remember correctly. That isn't supported by the computer so it has no chance. I looked at what was available on the keyboard. The wavy sign reminded me of a crooked smile that might accompany sarcasm.
20. 10 is a hypocrite
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.17.11)
this person, #10, is disgusted by those who smear a particular religious group, and expresses said disgust by using another unrelated religious group as a smear. that's quite netzarim of you to do that ;-)
21. Hypocrisy of commenters
Dudi ,   Jerusalem   (02.17.11)
To all who so openly shared their anti-religious sentiments: The bitter irony is that you are even more close-minded than the Haredim. You refuse to recognize another world-view. You cannot deal with someone who believes something contrary to your beliefs. To all those who mock this superstition: Look at your own life. Do you do everything according to a rational reason? The person you marry? The place you live? etc.. Stop being hypocritical with all your anti-religious hate which mostly stems from a sense of self-hatred and inadequacy.
22. The bird is obviously an escaped pet and needs a home.
Scott ,   USA   (02.17.11)
23. But that is the way many orthodox are moving...
(02.17.11)
Sad to say.
24. #10 can also advise on any culture.
(02.17.11)
You see, Xtians are really trying hard to become Jews so they are experts on Judaism. You thought they just wanted to convert them because they think they are correct but really since they know Judaism so well they are turning to us the Jews. That's why they know about us and want to share this knowledge because we forgot.
25. Please come into the 21 century
oliver ,   Eilat   (02.17.11)
Wake up pls and move into the 21 century and leave youre superstions behind
26. Now we know where the term "bird brain"
jason white ,   afula, israel   (02.17.11)
comes from.
27. oh please - a bit of dreaming never hurt anyone
Rebecca ,   Modi'in   (02.17.11)
There are hundreds of stories of birds arriving and staying at odd times. If some people want to see a bit more in it, what's the harm? Or do you seculars just need any excuse to knock the Hardim. Give it a break.
28. I blelieve
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (02.17.11)
that this bird has a very spiritual soul and since Judaism believes in reincarnation, then slaughtering the bird would have allowed the soul to be released and carry on in the next world.
29. SLAUGHTER!!????
ABE ,   NYC USA   (02.17.11)
NICE GUY WANTS TO SLAUGHTER A DOVE THAT HOLDS A SPIRITUAL MEANING FOR HIM? something is not right in Camelot!
30. #6
Chaim ,   Arad   (02.18.11)
I hope that King Slomo will not return soon. The scriptures says that he did evil in the sight of the L-rd. He set up high places to foreign gods he had multiple wives and he.......wait a minute, we already have all these things in Israel. Maybe it's a good time to repent...and not to a stupid dove.
