31. To: Luiz Felipe at No. 21
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.11.11)
Thank you, first of all. That said, I have to disagree. Progress can be stopped. It has been. You need look no further than Iran. The Shah did his best to bring Iran into the twentieth century -- perhaps he moved too fast. Look at Iran today. It is a vile and primitive regime. Progress towards achieving a nuclear weapon isn't progress when measured against the social conditions in Iran -- which are headed for the Stone Age. Actually, perhaps they are already there. Democracy is not for everyone, Luiz. It would be nice if it were ... but it isn't. I can guarantee you that the first casualty of a regime change in Egypt will be the peace treaty between Egypt and Israel. What Israel will do then is pretty much a given. Speaking of Hamas -- remember the so-called "democratic" elections in Gaza? The one that brought Hamas into power? Is Gaza a democracy, or is it a totalitarian theocracy? 'nuff said.
32. Too early for predictions, but let's watch Iraq...
Bryan ,   Minneapolis -- USA   (02.11.11)
Let's be honest, we're in for a tough time regardless, but let's see what happens in the coming years in Arab world, and especially Iraq. The status quo of the last 50 years is nearing it's end, but what replaces it is hard to predict.
33. 'OXYMORON": The Best Example:
Gray ,   Richmond USA   (02.12.11)
"Israeli Peace Plan" An Artificial and Foreign Created "State" Invaded and Subsequently Led Expansionist, Land Thieving, "One Race" Terrorists Has and Will ALWAYS Steal, Occupy and "Settle" the land of others until relentless, Criminal Conquest becomes too Costly.
34. #26, and the third largest "muslim" country
Danny   (02.12.11)
is India with a hundred forty million muslims
35. Dream On buddy
Sam ,   Hebron, Palestine   (02.12.11)
I'm wondering What democracy you talking about. 1. Israel racism against arabs 2. recisms among israelis themselves according to their origins 3. Jewish state only Do you consider this as A democracy. Dream on Baby
36. from dictatorships to democracies??
Yoss ,   Ashkelon   (02.12.11)
You are a little quick to write that! Arabs people removed two dictators, it absolutelly doesn't mean democracy will come instead ! It probably means new dictator or worse will come instead !
37. Arab democracy
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.12.11)
Everybody talks about demorocy, what good is a democrocy if not accompanied with a independent, secular judiciary system,in gaza the tyrons were elected democratically,in pakistan they have free elections, but sharia rules,i would be pleasently surprised if Egypt turns out differently.
38. Israeli paranoia redux
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (02.12.11)
It seems that the Israelis and their zionist apologists all have this strange idea that the Egytpians are somehow 'unfit' to govern themselves. From misreading the misquoting the Koran, to blanket patronizing statements that 'because the Arabs have never had a functioning democracy, they, unlike all others are somehow incapable'. Actually, the Jews had little to no experience with democracy prior to '48 and really never held any majority political power until that time. So, were the Jews unfit to create their democracy? After all, the Torah speaks of kings and rulers, not Madison or Jefferson or even ancient Greece. And why can't Israelis, after 63 years, create a constutution? Or even agree to enforce court orders? The hypocrisy and intellectual dishonesty evidenced by these talkbacks is astounding. Is the mistaken belief that all others are 'inferior' to you really as endemic as it appears? The Egyptians will find their own way, and I doubt whether or not they really care what you think, nor should they. I wish them the best. I think they are showing more political and intellectual maturity than you have shown.
39. Democracy???
yassine ,   Rome, Italy   (02.13.11)
Let's talk about that later, I think the arab people still have to get used to democracy. What unifies arabs: muslims christians, secolars, nationalists..., in this moment is one single thought: End of israel.
40. psycho
k. Smith ,   Polson, MT   (02.13.11)
just because it's "democratic" doesn't make it "good". If I remember my history correctly wasn't hitler democratically elected?
41. # 38, mikesailor
(02.13.11)
Yes, the Jews did not have majority political power before 1948, but many had experience with Democracy prior to 1948. Israelis would wish nothing more then a true democracy in Egypt, but past experience had turned into pessimists. More likely outcome in Egypt is a government like in Lebanon, nominally non-islamic, but controlled by MB. You , who live in safety, in Florida, accuse them of hypocrisy, because they worry about their safety. Look in the mirror, you find the true hypocrite. litvac120
42. Yup. It sure worked great in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan and Gaza..
Tahl   (02.13.11)
Muslim countries getting rid of their central leadership do not have the best track record of democracy and upholding human rights, to put it very mildly. The naivity and short-sightedness of this writer is unbelievable. How can ynetnews publish such a ridiculously shallow article?
43. Sam-Hebron -Palestine. You are truly pathetic and ...
aaron ,   Israel   (02.13.11)
1. Israel Racism Against Arab? With 24 Arab Mk in parliament. In the meantime all Arab countries persecuted Jews only because Israel was founded in 1948. Mosr of their properties stollen some of then hanged in Cities like Bagdad et etc etc Jews thrown out of the Old city and then the Arab commander proclaiming East Jerusalem is now Jew Cleaned.. Excuse me whi is racist?? 2. We dont have racism according to origins we have all sort of jews from different origins in Government, Parliament and army. Including Druse and also Beduins who are not Jews 3. Jewish State only means the preservation of it´s Jewish Character but respecting Minorities as I explained in point number One. How do you think Cristians live in Egypt,Irak Pakistan? I dont speak of Jews they were expelled and persecuted in most arab and muslim countries. So before you open your big mouth think it over. Arabs are they way they are because that is part of their mentality. A democracy for them is uncomprenhensible, not in the western style. When Jews were taken away from Egypt by Moses, they had to wonder in the wilderness for 40 years to learn to live as free men. Arabs have lived like slaves of their leaders for hundreds of years it takes more than a Egyptian type revolt to become really democratic. I wish them well(to the Egyptians)
44. Egypt just moved from a dictatorship to martial law!
michael redbourn ,   Arad - Israel   (02.13.11)
Egypt hasn't moved one inch closer to democracy. Anwar Sadaat was army, Mubarak was and perhaps still is army, and the army will now be running Egypt for the foreseeable future. http://tiny.cc/egypt-demos If you have any doubts about the above then just ask yourself, "Who is now running the army in Egypt?".
