3. If one doesn't understand the problem ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.24.11)
The problem with many rich people like Ronson is that their money shields them from reality - in effect, it makes them stupid. Jews and Muslims have a different experience on campus, and it starts with numbers. Muslims outnumber Jews in the UK by almost 10:1, and that difference is reflected on campuses where Muslims - often radical and highly politicized - set the tone. (Several heads of Muslim student associations have been convicted on terror-related charges; no Jews have been.) Pro-Israeli voices are easily shouted down, even sometimes physically threatened. Jews can only meekly protest the frequent presence of radical Muslim speakers. If they dared try to shout them down they'd get the crap beaten out of them. Islamophobia, it should be noted, is a concept invented by Islamists to shield Islam from criticism; it's a made up word. And phobias are, by definition, irrational fears.
4. to #3 thanks for the info, those r very good points
ghostq   (02.24.11)
wait until Muslim in the UK will have problem with other religions not just chritians or jews.
5. who says there are no idiots amongst Jews..
Oleg ,   Canada   (02.24.11)
Just look at Ronson..
6. wont work
Gittel ,   Jerusalem   (02.24.11)
I have had a lot of experience dealing with relations between Muslim and Jewish students on London campuses. The fundamentalist Muslims will try and sabotage it as they always did there was the calamus maimonades foundation every meeting was disrupted by the fundamentalist Muslim groups. I was threatened and intimidated by them. Some who are are now in jail. The British are fundamentally blind and stupid when dealing with these issues always have been. When the outside Muslims groups stop getting money for their anti Muslim and anti -semitic activities maybe the Muslims and Jews on campus can live peacably
7. #6 and #3 three cheers for Ronson
vernon marriott ,   Tel Aviv   (02.25.11)
I'm not a big fan of Gerald Ronson. However, I think in this he's right and he's showing a long term perspective (as befits a property developer). #3 - you seem to assume that most Muslims are bomb flingers. The reality of most opinion polls and the voting habits of Muslims in Britain is that it's a small, vocal minority who are radical. #6 as an Israeli you probably felt intimidated by anyone mentioning Israel (Israeli's tend to be touchy as hell). I studied and taught at British Universities for 10 years - and yes, while there are conflicts and arguments, for the 95% of students who aren't Muslim or Jewish and are basically normal students, the Middle East really doesn't mean a thing. They're more interested in cheap drink, getting laid and getting through their exams. They're not interested in politics (check out voter turnout for student elections - they average less than 20% in many UK universities)
8. "Islamophobia hurts Muslims, it also hurts Jews" - um, no
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.25.11)
well, i take that back. islamophobia hurts jews when muslims get vilified and discriminated against and then, somehow, blame the jooooos and seek to get a measure of revenge for their warped imaginations. muslims need to get their own house in order and, guaranteed, the amount of islamophobia (specifically all the imagined hyped-up imaginary kind that they trump up in their minds) will disappear instantly.
9. Arabs can't exercise co-existence with Jews

10. WE will hold hands and sing CUMBAYA, yeah sure (END)

12. Proving the Meek Jew Theorem -jeez...
AG   (02.26.11)
"My hope is that we will be able to prove that Jew can coexist and promote productive dialogue," -Yuval Yaakov You might wanna first prove that you actually have a "pair" and set your aim a wee bit higher, like head-on dialogue, than pander to their libel...
13. Not all Jews and Muslims are the Same
Samuel Cohen ,   Jaffa Israel   (02.26.11)
Is this for co-existence in UK or here in Israel too? I live amongst Arabs and have been to Egypt and together with Arabs (Of all Religions) for their rights. And 2 State Peace ASAP. But Remember not all Muslims are the Same and Not all Jews are the Same.
14. No. 7 Vernon Marriott
NYC Girl   (02.26.11)
So you think Israelis are "touchy as hell"? I can't imagine why they would be. But just maybe when your country is under threat of annihilation, your leaders are branded as war criminals and your soldiers are accused of being Nazis, you tend to become a bit thin-skinned.
15. anti- racist arab-jewish group
moron ,   galut   (02.26.11)
not about race and brits will always hate both...but the enemy of my enemy is my friend in mideast
16. Quit Worrying
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (02.27.11)
Quit worrying about the Arabs in the UK and start worrying about our own people for a change
17. To #9 Arabs cant co exist
Tcherkessi ,   LDN UK   (02.27.11)
In point of fact Moslem Christian Jewish Arabs co existed fine before the west messed the ME up which they continue doing with Iraq. There was even a Yiddish speaking community in Egypt who moved there after Suez canal opened
18. To #17 you are misinformed
steve ,   usa   (02.28.11)
#17 Your comments are misinformed. Try reading some history - Bernard Lewis is a good one, then comment. Jews always lived under tenuous circumstances in the Middle East. There have been sporadic outbreaks of violence against Jews as far back as records go.
19. to #17 lol the Koptic chritians rioted against
ghostq   (03.01.11)
the muslims only 3 months ago before the big riots, and #9 is right, other wise Muslims wouldn't have so much trouble recognizing Israel as jewish state the only country that belong to jews on earth.
20. Possible
Humanitarian   (03.01.11)
The humanitarian values all people who want to live in peace with eachother . In ww2 six thousand poles risked their lives to save jews including irene sendler who saved two thousand infants in the warsaw ghetto. At the moment the movement for common decency and benevolent courage is a very minority movement fighting tribalism an innate of the animal kingdom . It is one hundred years from victory but is to be encouraged . But the jews being wary of forced conversion and so being vulnerable must aim for ironclad security .
21. Wrong !
jan ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (03.02.11)
Islamophobia -a term coined to make people feel bad about being wary of terrorists. Anti-semetism- a term coined to refer to the hatred of Jews. Many millions of Jews have been killed as a result of anti-semetism over 2000 years plus. Many Muslims have earned distaste from the Western countries they moved to because they seldom speak out against terror acts committed by other Muslims. No one except maybe other Muslims has slaughtered Muslims-outside of warfare of course. There is very little in common -trying to link the two sounds like a wealthy Jewish man looking for a one state solution, which of course is no surprise coming out of the UK.
22. Islamophobia, reply to #3
rogers ,   NY, NY   (03.05.11)
Comment #3 informs us that Islamophobia is a "made-up word." Well thanks Sherlock! Of course any term which describes one's fear of something else by combining the subject of the fear with "phobia" is a made-up word. Arachnophobia is a made-up word. So what? But the hilarious irony in this post is that this post illustrates very clearly what Islamophobia looks like.. It's as if the poster wanted to prove that the phenomenon exists, in the same post that he insists it doesn't. Hilarious.
23. Both encouraging and discouraging
rogers ,   NY, NY   (03.05.11)
The article is great, people actually working together in peace and mutual respect.. very encouraging. What is discouraging is the response of many ynet readers here.. who seem positively affronted at the idea that people not of the same opinion as themselves could actually work together to find common ground and treat each other with respect..
24. But....you're Chosen
Paul ,   Cairns Australia   (03.05.11)
You have made it clear that you don't have to "co-exist" with anybody right?
