1. The Israelis should do everything they can
seadog1946 ,   Ong's Hat, NJ USA   (02.24.11)
to keep the Palestinians squabbling amongst each other in disunity. In fact, isn't it about time to stir the pot a bit and launch a few surgically precise extrajudicial assassinations of suspected terrorists in the West Bank?

Max   (02.24.11)
Echoes of what the Palestinians promised in the Oslo accords. We all know how successfully that turned out.
4. utterly impossible for hamas to give up terror
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.24.11)
read their charter, look at their actions, look at the price they have happily paid, listen to their unchanging words today - is all that just going to go away so they can get along with fatah? did not they say that there will only be unity when fatah either bends to their will or hamas destroys them? heck, even the word "hamas" means "violence", which they chose not by accident as a message to israelis. watch and see that this will soon be refuted by the hamas leadership, and their true aims (mentioned above) will be restated in order to remove any ambiguity on the matter.
5. Too Little Too Late
Brazen   (02.24.11)
hamas and fatah should have thought of this 60 + yrs ago. Besides the biggest obsticle that faces Israel is the charter that calls for the destruction of the JEWISH/HEBREW Nation and its people. Can You Say Trust? How can you trust people that want the DEMISE of the FIRST MONOTHESISTIC RELIGION where HASHEM introduced HIMSELF to his Greatest Creation Man !!!
6. Let's hope this comes true! This could be wonderful!
Bat Zion ,   Central Israel   (02.24.11)
We keep hoping for peace - is this finally it? Inshalla
7. #6 Inshalla but.
Salma ,   Palestine   (02.24.11)
Peacemaking needs two sides , If the Palestinians become ready ( unfortunately I doubt that Hamas will accept the proposal of Mr. Fayyad) there will remain a major problem that there is no "Israeli" partner for peace.
8. LOOK UP the word TAQIYYA
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (02.24.11)
It is pronounced "tagiyeh", and you can look it up for yourself, but put simply: "The practice of concealing one's faith in dangerous circumstances originates in the Qur'an itself, which deems blameless those who disguise their beliefs in such cases" The key here is "disguise their beliefs". Basically it means the Quran endorses lying to accomplish your goals. So all you have to do is read the Hamas Charter to see their goals. Here is the Hamas Charter: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Terrorism/Hamas_covenant_complete.html Now with this false unity government the Arabs will try to force Israel into a peace treaty. That they will not honor. So if Israel insists on border concessions that ensure their security you can see why. Now remember Hamas won't even use the word "Israel", but instead almost always says "Zionist Entity". You have to ask yourself, if they won't acknowledge the existence of Israel, how can they make a peace treaty? Just a few months ago Hamas stated quite clearly, they would NOT honor any agreement with Israel nor were "the Palestinians" bound by any such agreement. So what is this 180 degree turn we are now suppose to accept at face value? Would you? Seriously, would you stake your life, and your family's lives with such people? Be honest! The short answer is NO, of course not, nobody would. But that's exactly what the world will expect Israel to do?
9. Re #4 Christian missionary: Hamas is Arabic, not Hebrew
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.24.11)
Hamas is an acronym for Ḥarakat al-Muqāwamat al-Islāmiyyah, meaning "Islamic Resistance Movement" Stop trying to agitate conflict in hopes your mythological Jzeus will intervene and rule over us. Paqid Yirmeyahu Paqid 16, The Netzarim, Ra'anana, Israel Israeli Torah-reverer Jew: Teimani, Baladi, Dor Dai Advocate for Logic as Hermeneutic Halakhic Authority Welcoming all who choose to keep Torah (When questions to me go unanswered, they have refused to post it. 10. re #9 cult leader - come down from your tree
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.24.11)
everybody knows that - why do you think they chose that acronym, wile e coyote supergenius? by the way, did you ever get an endorsement by a legit rabbi that your strange teachings you invented and present as "orthodox" judaism qualify as being "orthodox"? i didn't think so.
11. 9 invitation to join cult in his post & says I'M missionary?
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (02.24.11)
you should change the name of your cult to 'hypocrites r us'.
12. When is Fatah going to give up terrorism?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.24.11)
They are both a bunch of terrorists. So it isn't about giving up terrorism, just making it sound like they are.
13. 9 Mike is right and you are wrong
Edin   (02.24.11)
"Hamas" is the Hebrew word for violence, in Arabic the word means something completely different like celebratory cheering. The acronym is used by the organization to mean different things to the different audiences, something good to the Palestinians and something bad to Israelis. Besides, Hebrew predates Arabic by quite a long time.
14. #1 seadog, Ong's Hat, doesn't exist
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.24.11)
Israel won't have to do anything; each faction will demand that they be the dominant one No assassination help required, Arabs are quite capable of doing that all by their lonesome As a matter of interest, the world “Assassin” is Arabic, it is a specialty of theirs, The world is derived from “Hashish”- I wonder, since you’re writing from a non-existent location, are you smoking a pipe full or two ? Most of the ME is in turmoil, Fatah/Hamas will continue in that tradition BTW- They're NEVER "suspected" terrorists, the fact that they are is confirmed beforehand by snitches who do it for a couple of bucks Israeli Mosad is a lot better than the CIA
15. #7 Salma, neither Hamas or Fatah
BEN JABO ,   ISRAEL   (02.24.11)
Are prospective partners for peace Their Covenant's & Charters clearly call for the destruction of Israel; Hamas in particular has always said it would never negotiate with Israel Stop pretending you're at the Arena in Spain; just stop throwing the bull around Arafat had promised at Oslo that he would remove the clause from the PLO Charter that called for Israel’s destruction; it’s still there, being just another Arab lie
16. #13, where did you learn Hebrew?
Michael Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (02.24.11)
"Hamas" is an acronym, just as #9 averred. It is not a word in Hebrew and has no meaning in the language except the one implicit in its origins, just as NATO is. In Hebrew, Hamas is spelled het-mem-aleph-samech (חמאס). Find it in Even-Shoshan as a Hebrew word and you'll get a free cup of coffee from me
17. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.24.11)
And all those assassinations conducted by various U.S. interests (e.g., CIA, Special Forces) of known Al Qaeda terrorists. Were those extrajudicial as well? Or how about the deck of playing cards circulated to U.S. troops in Iraq? Only about eleven were brought in alive. A handful are still out there, and the overwhelming majority were shot while surrendering. Were those extrajudicial shootings, too? If so, why aren't you out there demanding accountability of the United States with your usual sarcastic overlay? What Israel has already forgotten about Arab terror, the United States has not yet learned. I think you need to shut up. By the way -- if Israel were after bin Laden, we'd have gotten him long ago. The United States authorizes and carries out targeted assassinations as a matter of practical diplomacy, and has been doing it for years. Soft targets seem to me an American specialty. Can you spell "Salvador Allende?" Put that in your smoke and pipe it, you ignorant hypocrite.

Hamas may be Sunni, but they are not averse to acquiring weapons from Shi'a Iran. They certainly take their marching orders from Sh'ia Iran. Your point?
28. To: Ben at No. 14
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.25.11)
