1. GOODBYE ILAN... AND GOOD RIDDANCE
stude ham   (03.02.11)
you'll be very happy in shimonperesland.
2. No antisemitism in America
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.02.11)
Well, you can understand now what we are going through on this board. It is very tough to keep explaining to posters that there is no antisemitism in America even though there are individual antisemites here and there. Every little event and we hear "gevalt" followed by comments that bring everybody to scream back "de-legitimize" Israel. He faced it since 1974, poor fellow. And it's getting harder, much harder to penetrate those one-track minds on the right ...
3. Ilan Baruch she'ptaranu.
Tahl   (03.02.11)
I would be very glad to take his place, or I can nominate quite a few brilliant talkbackers from this forum who are clearly a lot more capable than this nebech.
4. Israel loses a loser
golan ,   modiin   (03.02.11)
I do not care how many drinks he had with butros gali, Liberman unlike former Israeli diplomatic corp understand how to explain our position. Had our position been better since Oslo Ian would be right. However its been years and for years we have excused Arab violence as the birth pangs of peace instead of as symptoms of a cancerous policy that confused our friends and emboldened our enemies.
5. Good-Bye and Good Riddence to You
(03.02.11)
6. Remove the causa celeb
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (03.02.11)
Annex Judea/Samaria/Golan now. Issue removed from table and a startiing point established.
7. Good Riddance
Joe Cone ,   USA   (03.02.11)
Good Riddance
8. ilan baruch
alexi   (03.02.11)
I respect ilan baruch's decision to quit as he could not follow lieberman's policies. However, baruch had his men in office with olmert, livni, sharon, barak and peres. And what came of israel withdrawing, and committeeing to 2 state with huge concesions. What came of it you dumb fool? suicide terror, and rockets north and south, death, maiming and paralysis. And EU and tony blair and lavrov showed up still to demand even more concessions. And the palestinians still refused olmert's crazy offers and are not serious about peace cause they have no intention to set up a state. Thier goal is to reverse israel totally. So ilan baruch, you did your bit in the idf but you don't speak for all of israel. Yoiu speak for olmert and livni and they have been rejected on balance. So go off and shut up. You had your chance and it got israel nowhere. And I agree 1000% percent with liberman. And the EU can go to hell along with lavrov and whoever else pressures israel. The jews have had enough of foreign landlords. And when leiberman becomes PM because bibi is done at the end of term like barak, lots of arabs who don't take the loyalty test will be extradicted out. end of story.
9. Replace Baruch with someone of far greater faith, courage.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.02.11)
Baruch helps Israel by quitting. All such diplomats should be replaced. Obviously someone who is wracked by guilt by Jews living in our ancestral heartland of Judea and Samaria is unfit to represent Israel. I hope Baruch is replaced by someone of far greater faith, self respect and courage.
10. Many Opinions
Harry ,   Canada   (03.02.11)
Ilan, thank you for all your hard work. You know what they say? Six million Jews and six million opinions. Thats what makes Israel such a dynamic democracy. My opinion for what its worth, global criticism of Israeli settlements is a mixture of Anti-semitism, left wing mumbo jumbo and Arab dishonesty as regards the source of the Israel - Palestinian conflict. Every day that goes by and new riots break out in the arab world, the rest of the globe understand more and more how unimportant the Settlements in Judea and Samaria are to the so-called "peace process."
11. don't let the door hit you on the way out
izzie irgun ,   zion   (03.02.11)
good bye and good ridance .. who need snother slf hating jew telling thew world that israelis wrong, we too many of those right now. BTW, it is anti semitism that drives Israels status and that is why Lybia, Syria, lebanon and North Korea sit on the HRC while they issue reports condemming Israel. .. real objective ha
12. An Israeli to be proud of
Ricardo Macher ,   Karnei Shomron IL   (03.02.11)
I am proud to see such a behaviour. Integrity and self-respect. This is the israeli all world wants to respect. Kol haKavod
13. Another idiot form the left
Rosie   (03.02.11)
Glad you are going. Maybe Libya or Iran has a place for you. You could explain their positions much better. What a looser. Israel needs to vet their candidates much better.
14. it took you 50 years to know that !!
ramallah ,   ram allah   (03.02.11)
at least you have recognized wrong from right " ocuppation is wrong and needs to go "] please run for prime e minister position , i will vote for you . i hope Lieberman have some sense to quit also , abd BIBI
15. The only surprise here is that not many more
Dave   (03.02.11)
Ambassadors are doing it. Israel has no foreign policy but helem type oraganization run by a bouncer.
16. #2: No anti-Semitism in America?
Steve   (03.02.11)
There are degrees of anti-Semitism. As Abe Foxman once remarked (paraphrasing) 'not everyone (every anti-Semite) wakes up in the morning saying', "Today I'm going to get a Jew." I do not always agree with Lieberman but on this I agree with him. America may not be as obsessive as other countries and peoples, particularly the European nations; the British, the French, the Swedes, etc. Nonetheless, this excessive international focus on Israel I believe is motivated in large measure by antipathy toward Jews in general and Israel's Jews in particular; in light of history and the political and the religious climate in the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. Especially in the post 9/11 world. I do not know what can explain this obsession with Israel other than flat out ignorance or anti-Semitism. U.S. and European diplomats and leaders are not ignorant. What else can explain it?
17. Obama threw out the "former understandings"
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (03.02.11)
"Former understandings" were that the US treat and defend Israel as an important ally. Obama treats our enemies better than he does Israel. Obama is directly responsible for the CHANGE in Egypt which led to Iranian-made missiles hitting Jewish homes in the Negev and Iranian warships being allowed to sail in the Suez Canal. Maybe Obama can give Ilan Baruch a job. He will fit right in with the other self-hating Jews working at the White House.
18. why this story now?
citizen   (03.02.11)
He quit a few months ago, so why bring this up now? Pity we don't know more but, regardless of what is really behind the resignation (I don't buy the reason he gave), let's not forget his long service to the State of Israel.
19. To Mr.Ilan Baruch
FO ,   Belgium   (03.02.11)
If after 3O years as a diplomat for the Foreign Ministry, you still have not understood that your country is not an occupying power, than something is basically wrong. 30 years were enough time to learn that your country has the irrevocable right to settle anywhere in the area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, including the Golan Heights, a right unaltered in International Law and valid to this day, due to the San Remo Conference in 1920, the unanimous voted resolutions by the League of Nations in 1922, called the Mandate for Palestine, and again valid to this day due to Article 80 of the Charter of the United Nations. Don't tell me Mr. Baruch that you hear this story for the first time in your life. So where is your problem?
20. Lots of long time leftists in Foreign Ministry
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, DC USA   (03.02.11)
He joined the Foreign Service when Labor was in power. Times change. But most on the left are congenitally incapable of learning from experience. Look at Peres. Lieberman is only doing what he's supposed to do - stand up for Israel's rights and interests. As we say in America, "Don't let the door hit you on the way out."
21. what ignorance!
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (03.02.11)
diplomacy is about balance and stability. sounds like he knew exactly what he was doing. he is absolutely right about the fact that screaming anti-semitism at every moment (which is bullshit!) is de-legitimizing our position as a major player in the middle east. you want courage??? you try losing an eye in war!
22. Bravo to the courageous israeli for his principles & dignity
christianpalestinian ,   las vegas, nevada   (03.02.11)
I wish there were more reasonable and rational israelis out there. This guy makes a lot of sense!
23. Mr. Lieberman speaks the true therefore he is a hero!
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (03.02.11)
24. Now this is an honorable Jew....
Marco ,   Spain   (03.02.11)
that would make me proud to have as my neighbor in Spain....
25. #!7 Sue, Los Angeles
Yunan Amram ,   tel aviv   (03.02.11)
Sue, JOO-BAMA is the best friend we ever had...
26. FOREIGN POLICY????
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (03.02.11)
I don't understand how the State of Israel's policies towards 'Palestinian issues can be described by Baruch as being 'foreign policies'. Surely, these are Israel's domestic and defence issues. These might be foreign policy issues for other countries, but they are interfering in Israel's business. Methinks that Mr Baruch went native. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
27. Democratic Jordan is Palestine
Eyal ,   Denver, CO   (03.02.11)
To the FM's office: When will you finalize negotiations for Jordan to become the Palestinian democratic state that it should be? Two states, on either side of the Jordan River, living in peace side by side. Judea and Samaria could never belong to a PA - won't happen. Jordan embraced as a democratic Palestine is the only way for peace. US/Israel can help with infrastructure, water. Petition http://www.ipetition.com/str-asp-PetitionID_9-end-SignPetition.htm
28. Why in the world does Israel not push the TRUTH about JORDAN
ReasonableAlternativ ,   Jordan   (03.02.11)
as Palestine? The next king is a palestinian even. jordan is eastern palestine, and 78% of the palestine mandate. majority of the people are palestinian. good grief people, the usa will support you, just provide a reasonable alternative.
29. to#8
Jennie ,   US/Israel   (03.02.11)
Bless You, Alexi ! You said it Bold and like it really is. And your message fills me with hope and assurance, that indeed a new "Sherif " is in "town"...He will renew the past glory. And talking about past: the best leaders are always those who can remember and learn from history...
30. # 26 @ Ian
