1. Threatening to bite the hand that feeds you while you cheat
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (03.03.11)
Given that many of those on welfare are people who are 2nd or 3rd illegal wives who get benefits as if they were unwed mothers this is not a threat that the government will take seriously. When they join with the Jewish religious who also get benefits for large families then maybe their will be discussions. But unlike the Arab countries, here the vast majority will not back riots based on those who abuse the system not getting what they "deserve" for that abuse. In fact it is the opposite to what is going on in the Arab world, here the corrupt are threatening to protest the government, not the people protesting a corrupt government.
2. Yes, something sounds illogical about this

nadav ,   tel aviv   (03.03.11)
they have democracy here so they can vote for representatives who will push their economic agenda. Unfortunately, since Oslo, the Arabs in Israel have been duped into voting for the likes of Zoabi, Bishara et al, whose main agenda is to destroy israel from within, NOT create jobs for their constituents! THEY SHOULD BE PROTESTING AGAINST THEIR OWN BACKWARD ARAB LEADERSHIP!
4. Create jobs and eliminate poverty
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (03.03.11)
Israeli government should stop the institutionalized discrimination against Israeli arabs. Create jobs for this neglected sector and give people a chance to get out of poverty
5. the arabs are desperate for a revolution about something
zionist forever   (03.03.11)
The prices of things are going up yes and that affects everybody from the very richest to poorest. They don't think there are poor jews in the country? Poor jews have exactly the same problems as poor arabs do but they are not threatening an intefada until their demands are met. This is not entirely about economics its partly because the arabs in Israel see their brothers holding revolutions and they are feeling abit left out of things. They want to take to the streets feel like they are doing something thats going to go down in history. If they go on a nationwide strike all it won't result in the government being toppled and the mob deciding who will replace them. That works just fine in dictatorships in democracies their revolution happens on election day. If there is an arab sector wide strike without Histadrut protection employers will be within their rights to fire them for not turning up to work. Arabs loose their jobs and their economic situation worsens. Jews or foreign workers do the jobs once being done by the arabs and then the arabs will be out on the streets saying jews intentionally don't employ them. That will make them even less employable because businesses like to be sure their employees will be coming to work everyday not between nationwide strikes. The risk making things worse for themselves if they hold this sector wide strike.
6. #4 - Rami, you know that isn't true
William ,   Israel   (03.04.11)
There isn't institutionalized discrimination against Israeli Arabs. It's more like a perfect storm of a lot of little problems. 1) Arabs live in rural villages mostly and demand the govt force businesses to relocate there to help the local residents. You don't have to have an MBA to see the financial and logistical short-comings of such a plan. It's the same reason why businesses don't rush to move to Sderot, Dimona, Metulla, or Eilat - ALL Jewish towns! 2) There is the issue of corruption rampant in Arab villages. Where did all of the govt investment go? Why would I as a business owner move to an area that has massive corruption? I wouldn't...whether in the Galil or in the US. 3) Arabs have already proven themselves to be slightly distrustful. Not all, and you're a perfect example of this, but the loudest ones and those are the ones who get violence. These are the ones who attacks Jews when they enter their villages, they call firemen to the village then throw stones at them, etc. Why would I want to move my business to an area where my property, my life, and those of my co-workers, even the Arab ones, might be in jeopardy?? There's only one way to bring business and development to Arab towns and that's by making them attractive to investment the same way Western cities compete for businesses. I agree with you that creating jobs is a good thing and helps people out of poverty, but the Arab community can't make demands without compromise. Many Jews move from their rural towns to be closer to work, are Arabs somehow an entitled species that they deserve millions of dollars of infrastructure and tax incentives for businesses because a young Arab doesn't want to leave his mommy? Running into the streets and violently protesting (notice the guy from Kfar Kana said "intifada") is a lazy, welfare-mentality way of doing things.
