The writer of this story twisted the words of the Pope. IThe Pope actualy came out in defense of the Jews in what he said. He said they cannot be blamed for killing Jesus! This author is lying about what the Pope said. Read the Pope's own words and see if I am not telling the truth!

Avi, Get it out of your head that Catholics take issue with Jews. In my forty two years as a Catholic, the only people I hear flying this canard is Jews. We share more good history than bad and Christians are brothers in arms when it comes to defending a peacful modern society against the onslaught of Sharia on the world.

I have always thought that the fact we catholics recite the Nicene creed in every mass and it specifically states that Christ suffered and died UNDER PONTIUS PILATE was a specific exonoration of the Jews for the death of Christ. The Pope's recent statement came as a shock to me. I thought the issue had been settled theologically. Except for saints who are mentioned abundantly in varous prayers, I don't know of any other prayer which identifies a specific individual for guilt or accountability as the Nicene Creed does Pilate. Not even Judas. I just assumed it was to make clear it was Roman law and Roman authority which made the ressurection possible.

First Benidict is not the first Pope to issue this statement. At least five times befor popes have issued simular statements. They have just been ignored by the majority of the church. Tom, if you want to comment on the catholic church you should pick up a history book and the caticism of the catholic church too know why the catholic church teaches what it does. One of my best freinds is a pastor at a Calvery Chapel and we have discussed the opinions of what many evangelicals think that the Catholic Church teaches but with enlightenment there comes understanding. It does not matter whether Jesus Christ was killed by Jews or anybody else. It is all planned and the final sacrifice for man's sin has been made. No other sacrifice need be made. Only belief in the final sacrifice, the meaning and results is necessary. True enough though about the religious wars of the future and the current world situation. The response to Islamic aggression will be extreme beyond belief.

The sins or this world are what killed Jesus. Our faith is clear on this subject. As far as religion being the cause of conflict, this is silly: the Mongal Hordes, Alexander the great, Roman dominance, Napoleon, WWI, and WWII had nothing to do with religion or faith. While it is often an excuse, it has been used a tool of power. Man's grasp at power and dominance over others is the driving force behind conflict and religious organizations are often used as a tool. This is clearly what is happening now with Islam. Until the love of God permiates or culture, that of selfless love - the same shown by Jesus, conflict will remain.

Christians do not hate Jews. We do not condem the Jews for the death of Jesus, because if Jesus didn't die on the cross we would still be dead in our sins.

I find it interesting that no one mentioned that the Romans were in power at the time of Jesus death. They did not spare Jesus so I guess that makes all of us guilty. No one came to His defense>

Actually, this is a false statement. Atheism is the biggest killer. Countless millions have been exterminated by the Soviet and Maoist leadership. Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro and Che Guevera among others have more blood on their hands than all religions combined. Man without faith are adrift morally and will usually fail on the side of pride, power lust and selfishness.

It hasn't been very many years since most mainline protestant churches did not see the Catholic church as Christian, most still don't. Here in the US it took them two centuries to get the protestants mainline denominations to consider, much less agree, that they were Christian. As a fundamental Christian I still have problems with the Catholic doctrine as do most fundamental churches, we love the Jewish people and pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
