31. #20 - that might have been Iranian plane 2 weeks ago
William ,   Israel   (03.22.11)
that was the first time Turkey searched an Iranian plane but found nothing. Just because you don't find a news item in other news outlets or cited on the Internet doesn't make it any less credible. News agencies have a habit of heavily editorializing their content as they tailor it for a specific readership, to gain ratings and ad dollars. There were several news stories of Israelis (specifically the IDF) helping out and saving lives, of 2 pregnant "Palestinian" women who had complications during birth, and most recently being the first group to set up a surgery-ready field hospital in Japan. The global news media barely noticed.

Turkey is a member of NATO and is an ally of the west. Sometimes the relations are strained though.

The United States and the European Union have designated Iran and Syria as "state sponsors of terror." So have Canada and Oceania. Care to explain to me how Turkey, in its increased movement towards the Iran/Syria camp, is an ally of the West? How much longer do you think Turkey will be tolerated in NATO? (Answer: not very.)

Well it just seems to me that something fishy is going on because of the fact that the same type of plane from the same origin (iran) was stopped just 2 days earlier and they found nothing. Who tipped off the U.N about these weapons on a cargo plane? All i know is that Iran is not afraid of sanctions and it obviously does not REALLY affect them, they also dont care how they are looked at in the world. They are very deceiving and use different types of opportunitys to pass there agenda along. Let's just hope Turkey stays the way they have been for so many years and not join the "axis of evil"

Oh, I think that Turkey has cast its lot with the axis of evil. As to who tipped off the U.N. -- probably one of the many countries that have satellites in orbit continuously focused on Iran, Turkey and Syria. If you load weapons of a certain size and type aboard a cargo plane, an ocean-going cargo vessel or even overland trucks and railcars (the latter two not recommended), the signature is unmistakable. That's how Israel (and other countries) have known which cargo vessels to intercept, which aircraft need to be checked and which caravans in the Sudan need to be obliterated. The satellites track the attempted shipments pretty much from the points of origin. Not hard to do when you know what to look for and you know how to read ultra-high resolution satellite photographs. The big eyes in the sky see all ...

Your post gives hope that ultimately, a way will be found to get out of the hole the relationship is in. Not many here let these talkbacks revise their positions. Many speak without listening or considering. You deserve a lot of credit. Kol Hakavod.
37. Well, Im no expert
steve ,   USA   (03.23.11)
but the best explanation i've heard for turkeys recent about face has to do with gains made by iran. turkey i think sees itself having a bigger seat at the table then maybe iran intends. iran and turkey are engaged in a battle for muslim hearts and minds, if you will.
38. Turkish Press Freedom, Article 301
Turkish Press ,   US   (03.23.11)
One should be very wary about articles published in the Turkish press as it is tightly controlled by the government under article 301. This story should be confirmed before it is believed.

My take is that the Mossad in Iran tipped off the UN and forced the affair. This is not an Iranian operation; Syria is an Iranian client state. If Assad is kicked out it would be a huge hit on Iranian influence in the region; Lebanon, Hamas and Hezbollah would lose much financial support as would Palestine, already reeling from the Egyptian flip. The covert assault on Iran continues, largely Israeli.
40. The REAL story is...

There was nothing Illegal found, the plane was released. You shouldn't repeat unconfirmed allegations when tensions are running high unless you are trying to stoke them.

Thank you for your answer. You seem to be a genuinly reasonable, intelligent and good person who wants things to get better. I do too, and I see your points as well. It would be such a shame if the longstanding relationship between Turkey and Israel, and specially between Turks and Jews were to be destroyed Have a great day my friend..
42. Since the source is the "Turkish press"...

this "news" is merely gossip until ynetnews.com can cite a credible source for this "news".

I was not trying to say you in particular are a nut job. However there are many Turks of moderate and modernist sector of the nation who have become somehow irrational by forgetting their secular modern roots and just to oppose Israel (which is like a fashion or trend in Turkey these days) they are opening arms to Iran, Khaddafi of Libya etc. It is also ironic to see how the majority of Turks were strongly supporting the coup against Mubarak in Egypt while now when it is against Khaddafi the tide turned around and many are in support of him. Isn't it ironic and very hard to explain or understand? Also pleasre remember that there are about 15 million Jews around the world that's all. And 5 million of it in Israel surrounded by 100 million of Arabs who would like to see an end to the one tiny Jewish state. Why do you always expect Israel to be to one acting rational and never ask the same from Israel's enemies? Why is it that before cast led operation when Arabs were killing Israeli children such as Dorit Benisian and Yuval Abebeh, PM Erdogan did not say a word but in Davos used very harsh and undiplomatic words to Israeli president? Think about all of these and how PM Erdogan is manipulating public opinion to his benefit using these incidents. Don't fall for it. Despite all the bad things that Erdogan did Jews all around the world are supporting the secular modernist Ataturk following Turks. There is no change there. Think about it and don't do what Nasreddin Hoca did in the story, cutting the tree branch that he was sitting on and tell the people who warned him - Don't worry, I am holding on it -
