91. Jordan is Palestine. End of story.
Ben Yisrael ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.30.11)
92. Palestinian Right to a State with Jerusalem as its Capital
Alan Smith ,   UK   (03.30.11)
The Israelis have their own capital, and it's called Tel Aviv. The American and Russian economic migrant settlers have their own capitals too - Washington and Moscow. Ban Ki Moon is quite correct - the indigenous Palestinians have the right to a state with Jerusalem as its capital city, and the Jews had better learn to live with it.
93. Divide seoul and give half to n. korea!
jason white ,   afula, israel   (03.30.11)
This jr, kurt waldheim has a lot of nerve and little intelligence. Jerusalem is our capitol and will not be divided! The terrorist pali state will be crushed before it is born.We will make sure that pali terrorism does not pay off. We need new elections to get rid of the twin cowards, bibi and barak. And we do not need zippy the pinhead and kadima instead.
94. To all 6 Harolds
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (03.30.11)
Well, Harold, it's so nice of you to decide that history began in 1967 and there is obviously no need for peace talks. Would you be so kind as to draw up the peace treaty and forward copies to Abbas and Netanyahu to sign? Mighty white of you, Harold, to so succinctly solve the problems of the midle east in a talkback of a mere 14 words. Crikey, the rest of us musta really got our balls in a knot trying to figure this out, when you just came along and solved it all for everyone. Well, kudos to you, Harold me boy! What a brilliant job! I'll definitely sign the petition to nominate you for a Nobel Peace Prize. You sure that the 1949 armistice lines are the ones you want now? And if we're going back to 1967, don't you also want to give the west bank back to Jordan? And I assume you want to kick all the Jews out of the old city of Jerusalem, as the Arabs before you did as well. Do you want to repave any parking lots with Jewish gravestones while you're at it - since the Jewish cemeteries in "east" Jerusalem will obviously go "back" to being what....Arab cemeteries despite the fact that Jews have always been buried there? I mean really, Harold, why am I or anybody else dithering over the teenie weenie details when all we have to do to make the world right is do the green line thing? You're oh so smart, Harold!
95. The original partition plan
Nour ,   One-State   (03.30.11)
The Partition Plan, which was blatantly racist and unjust anyway, called for the internationalization of the city given its special significance to the three monotheistic religions. At least, that was the argument. 65 years later, the entire city is held by Zionists and claimed as "eternal capital" of the apartheid state of "Israel". Thank goodness, the world is waking up this September and imposing Arab Jerusalem, just as Tel Aviv was imposed in Palestine.
96. A Legitimate Right?
Thomas ,   US   (03.30.11)
"The Palestinian people have no national identity. I, Yasser Arafat, man of destiny, will give them that identity through conflict with Israel." A country for a people with no national identity outside of their commitment to terrorizing a member state is a legitimate right?
97. How About Kurdistan, Mr UN?
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, USA   (03.30.11)
Why doesn't the UN tell the Turks, Syrians, Iraqis and Iranians that the Kurds have a right to a state of their own, and that they have to hand over traditional and majority Kurdish areas to that to be created country? I think that is more urgent than giving a country to recent Arab immigrants to the Holy Land.
98. Forget it, Ban.
Sandra ,   NYC   (03.30.11)
Even if Israel didn't have the right to the whole city (which Israel does) - you would start a horrendous war by putting Israel's worst enemies in charge of half of Israel's capital city. Stop trying to make things worse.
99. A note to Mr. Ban Ki-moon
Les Freud ,   Toronmto, Canada   (03.30.11)
On November 29, 1947, UN General Assembly Resolution 181 stated the following regarding the boundaries of Jerusalem: "B. BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY The City of Jerusalem shall include the present municipality of Jerusalem plus the surrounding villages and towns, the most eastern of which shall be Abu Dis; the most southern, Bethlehem; the most western, 'Ein Karim (including also the built-up area of Motsa); and the most northern Shu'fat, as indicated on the attached sketch-map..." The words "divide" or "partition" , in reference to Jerusalem, are not to be found in the entire document. Jerusalem would have never been divided had it not been for the Arab states decision to not accept Resolution 181 but rather try and destroy the newly and legally established State of Israel. On what bases do you, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, urge the partition now?
100. To # 11
Les Freud ,   Toronto, Canada   (03.30.11)
Based on that logic, Jerusalem's boundaries should be set back to 1947 as per UN General Assembly Resolution 181. Read it!
101. 22 harold
jorge stern ,   mexico   (03.30.11)
so you wil be on the front lines when the arabs attempt to complete their jihad.
102. #18 - Excellent suggestion, Eddie
Gobbo   (03.30.11)
Your idea is wonderful. It needs to be repeated loudly and often. Carve out a large chunk of the Libyan coast and give it to the Palestinians. They would get to live on the Mediterranean, just as they do in Gaza, but with far more space. Plus they'd even have oil. "Next year in Tripoli!"
103. first Seoul
Ronnb ,   Canada   (03.30.11)
The guy is a regular genius. First have him figure out how to divide Seoul between North and South Korea. Then he can divide peking between Taiwan and China. And after he solves the Burma problem, then he can complain about the fence separating mexico from Texas.
104. Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, I think you are up for disapointment:
leo ,   usa   (03.30.11)
"The target date for completing the Palestinian Authority’s two-year State-building program is fast-approaching." Israel's opinion aside Palis will never go for it themselves. As for yourself and other so called do-gooders, how's that Club Gitmo thing progressing. What makes you think subject of Jerusalem is easier.
105. Can we ban Ban?
tz   (03.30.11)
Happy Birthday Ban!!!
106. Never in history has Jerusalem been the capital city of...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.30.11)
...anyone but that of the Jewish people, never!! Even between the years 1948 and 1967 during which time the eastern part of the city was "cleansed" of all its former Jewish residents, carried out by its Arab rulers, it was not proclaimed as the capital city of an independent Arab state. When the Arabs accept Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people with Jerusalem as its capital city, only then should the world begin to take them seriously about their "moderate" intentions. But to date, none of the Muslim-Arab leaders has ever made the declarative simple statement of accepting Israel's right to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people, none!
107. No. 6 Harold
NYC Girl   (03.30.11)
Okay, so let's say Israel returns to the 1967 borders. And then what, genius? If that were really the issue (rather than the fact that the Arabs believe Israel should be dismantled altogether), what was the reason for the Six Day War? Not only that, but why did Yasser Arafat create the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1964? Inasmuch as Israel didn't control the territories until 1967, what the hell were they intending to "liberate?" Now you know why the suggestion that Israel return to the 1967 borders totally sucks.
108. Arrogant imperialist colonialist EU and UN
carlos ,   San Diego U.S.A.   (03.30.11)
109. Thank you Ban Ki-moon,
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.30.11)
We will never give up OUR jerusalem..... I will never give up my mom's house in West jerusalem.
110. Jerusalem: UN Must be Disbanded
Rafael ,   Yerushalayim, Israel   (03.30.11)
111. Ban wants Arab occupation
Seth Greenberg ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.30.11)
Skip a few years into the future. An Arab totalitarian state occupies half of Jerusalem and calls it their capital. Since Jews and Arabs both claim Jerusalem to be their capital, the divided city will be occupied doubly - half by Israel and half by the Arab state. How is that more moral than the status quo?
112. Dividing... hmmm that's worked well for Korea.
David ,   Jerusalem   (03.30.11)
113. IT"S KNOWN: UN HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND IS PRO ARAB
KNOWN & NOTORIOUS ,   WORLD   (03.30.11)
WHAT"S NEW? AND HOW COME THIS MOON GUY IS SPEAKING ABOUT "OCCUPATION" UN HAS BEEN OCCUPYING A PARCIAL VIEW & PLACE LONG TIME- THEY SING AS PER INTERESTS AND ANTI JEWISH OPINIONS- NO NEWS
114. Ban needs to put a sock in it
babawawa ,   new york, usa   (03.30.11)
115. #36 & #40: How true!!
Israeli 2   (03.30.11)
116. One problem Alan #92
Zev ,   Israel   (03.30.11)
The Palestinians are not indigenous to this land and came from Egypt, Lybia, Syria,Saudia Arabia and elswhere. The Arabs started coming when the Jews started coming back to their homeland and there was work to be had. As to their right to a state they already have one on land that was a major part of the Jewish Homeland and part of the Palestinian Mandate held by Britain. It is called Jordan.
117. #109 You've already forfeited both.
(03.30.11)
118. So glad UN knows how to solve the problem
Potash Katiftof ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (03.30.11)
Yeah, Thanks Mr. UN, ....the issue is just that simple, I am sure that the Hamas and PA would back off just the second that Israel does that.
119. MOON IS RIGHT
rebecca ,   usa   (03.30.11)
this idiocy has to stop.
120. #95 Jerusalem allocated for Israel
Cynthia ,   USA   (03.30.11)
Jews were a majority in the area alloted to them by the Partition Plan which included Jerusalem. That was the argument. Jerusalem remains the capital of Israel where members of various faiths are free to practice their faith. Had the Arabs accepted the Partition Plan, the Palestinians would have had a state long ago. But they elected war over country and spent decades repeating bad decisions.
