How sad for Juliano...He paid the ultimate price for his naive belief, that doing good & bringing art and joy to people will keep them human... Where are the lesftists on this ? No rallies,no marches of solidarity to poor palis and wearing kafiyas ?
32. This is what he got for supporting Pals. Wow.
Linda Rivera ,   New York, USA   (04.04.11)
33. Everybody is a critic.
jason white ,   afula, israel   (04.04.11)
Too bad he was not a pro Jewish activist. If he knew it was a danger to him, why did he stay there? Was it worth it?
34. Where are Western leader and UN
John ,   Accra,Ghana   (04.04.11)
to castigate this barbaric attack?.Palis and their muzzie brothers always kill people who are not in line with them.May his soul rest in peace.

I am really shocked by the murder of Juliano Mer, one of the finest Israeli actors. I did not agree with his politics but admired his bravery in setting up a theatre in Jenin. He gave up a prestigious career for his beliefs and must have truly believed that he could overcome those extremists who hated him so much. Condolences to his family and may he RIP.
37. #23: Salma dont remember you be upset 4 itamar massacre
STEPHAN ,   YAFFO   (04.04.11)

38. How can anyone be "shocked? Promised, and firebombed.
Serge ,   Motnreal, Canada   (04.04.11)
Palestinian militants promised that they would assassinate this man. Then they firebombed his theatre multiple times. How can anyone possibly be shocked that Jenin military forces did exactly what they had promised to do, and already attempted to do?
39. Yes, you truly are a man of 'common sense'
Karen ,   Tel Aviv   (04.04.11)
40. PLO and Hamas - both are murdering terrorists!
Jake in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israek   (04.04.11)
Has anyone noticed that he was not killed in the jurisdiction of Fundamentalist Hamas' Gaza but rather in the area of the secular "peace-partner" PLO? These are the same people who murdered Olympics athletes in Munich, not just actors. Israel cannot possibly reach a "peace agreement" with terrorists like this. Fayyad and Abu Mazen never have been, are not and never will be "peace partners". Wake up!
41. BDS? Ha!
Jake in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.04.11)
Those dancers, actors, singers, rockers, etc who boycott Israel and prefer the Palis should wise up. They wouldn't dare perform for the Palis because they don't want to end up "suddenly dead". Just like this guy! Hypocrites!
42. "The only two things I got from Israel"
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (04.04.11)
... Talk about pretension and lack of appreciation. He thrived on Israeli soil but, in return, he condemned us. Ironic, isn't it, that he found out too late that he was never going to be allowed to continue on with his attempt to assist the Arab people because the extremists simply do not want Palestinians to improve their lives. What they want, pure and simple, is power and the demise of Israel. They really don't care about the needs of the common Palestinian. Until they are put on the run, until they are exterminated and without pity, we will really never find a peaceful and harmonious means of of residing side by side.
43. 100% Palestinian, 100% Jewish
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (04.04.11)
Born to a Jewish Israeli mother and a Christian Palestinian father Julian Mer Khamis refused to describe himself as an Arab Israeli. "I am 100% Palestinian and 100% Jewish". Whoever committed this despicable murder is a traitor to the cause of Palestine and a traitor to the Palestinian people. Farewell, Julian. You will be missed so much.
44. Juliano Mer-Khamis' background had all what his killers hate
Joe ,   Canada   (04.04.11)
In the eyes of the extremists who were planing & in the eyes of the one who executed the murder, the victim had all what they despise, hate & want to anihilate. He was a Jew through his mother & considered an Arab by Muslims because of his father, but also an apostatat since he was not religious. And in addition he was introducing culture among the obscurantists who see this as upmost devilish for their youths & risky for their future grip on the populace. This was not the crime of a single perpetrator. The death of Juliano was urged on previous occasions through publicly distributed leaflets. As long as the extremists are sufficiently numerous to exercise terror on their own people no one can expect that they will allow any progress toward peace with Israelis. The education systems in most Muslim countries just help perpetuate the current status & therefore in the near term there is no reason for Israel to make concessions for peace which would only result in less security for nothing in return. We still have to see the final outcomes of the current upheavals in several Muslim countries which may have initially have to do with fast modern communication but might provide the extremists with the opportunity to use the chaos to replace the former despots with their brand of theocratic dictatorship.

I am so sad....we were editing our films next to eachother in Amsterdam and had great and deep discussions about his, and his mothers work. This is so sad....so sad....

48. Heinous murder!
Ben Alofs ,   Bangor, UK   (04.04.11)
I feel outrage, sadness and bitterness over the murder of Juliano Mer Khamis. The fundamentalist barbarians that did this (most likely Palestinians) have destroyed much more than the life of a courageous actor, who committed so much of his life to the struggle for coexistence. They have fed the prejudice of those that never cared about justice for the Palestinians. They have inflicted terrible damage on the solidarity work in the Occupied Territories. The PA must do all in its powers to catch these cowardly criminals and throw them in jail for the rest of their lives. These people have no place in a normal society.
49. I wonder if....
aline silverman ,   israel   (04.04.11)
....he had been murdered if he had not been half Jewish ?
50. Here's Why They Killed Him:
Jew ,   Eretz Israel   (04.04.11)
SIMPLY FOR BEING A JEW. That's what he got for what he did for them. That's his ultimate reward. In some way it's very sad that he was so misguided, but in another he was a traitor and got what he deserved in the end.
51. # 48
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.04.11)
Nice to read that you dont lay the blame on a (Jewish) Israeli.
52. To #30
Jewish Warrior   (04.04.11)
Yes, Halacha does mandate that anyone with a Jewish mother is considered a Jew, but he was not a practing Jew, and his pro-Palestinian activism together with his Christian-Arab father allow us to refer to him as Arab.
53. Wonderful expression of sorrow, Ben #48:
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (04.04.11)
Interestingly, I've never read any condolences for Jews murdered by Palestinians, say by the rockets launched by your beloved Gazans, by the terrorists murdering a family including a three-month old child in Itamar or the launching of a bomb near the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem. Why is that, Ben? How is it that your physician's compassion doesn't include fullblooded innocent Israeli Jews? Why is it, Ben? Just wondering. This could be time for a Goldstonian moment from you. Why not surprise us?
54. That what Happens to...
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.04.11)
To those who make excuses for terrorism. Why would anybody be surprised? When it comes back to bite you in the butt.
55. weren't Rabin & Amir Jewish

56. #50, He was an Israeli, not strictly a Jew.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.04.11)
He carried an Israeli passport, voted in Israeli elections, obeyed Israeli laws, paid taxes in Israel. I am quite sure he never said "chosen people." Please, do not call him and many other Israelis a "Jew" without their permission.
57. #48 Zero credibility
Tahl   (04.04.11)
Where were your harsh words ("heinous murder", "I feel outrage, sadness and bitterness", "cowardly criminals") when a family of five Jews, including three infants - were brutally massacred in cold blood by a Palestinian terrorist? Was that crime any less heinous in your eyes? Had you had condemned that massacre in the same harsh terms, your rage here would've had a shred of credibility.
58. This is a message to all the Left Wing Jews in Israel
k ,   US   (04.04.11)
They do not care what you are They did this to condition the world for the execution of Jews once they get freedom it does not matter if you are a right wing Zionist or a Left wing appeaser, they will kill you This is there way of saying we are coming for you
59. Deep condolences to his familly
WestBanker ,   WestBank   (04.04.11)
The killers must bring in to court and be punished!
60. Salma-there a element of islam that does not....
Galut ,   selah   (04.04.11)
know what peace and love mean...only thier own hateful ideology...might want to sit down and re-evaluate your support of that radical element - because if they become the controling power base in a future state ...you can expect events of this nature to be a norm ============== (Mer-Khamis) Quote "While his work was widely appreciated by Palestinians, his bringing together of young men and women angered conservative Muslim elements in Jenin. In addition to threats, fire bombs were thrown at the theatre. "
