1. Begin and the British
Yisraeli   (04.21.11)
I cant say I blame Begin for his hate of the British, the British did many an atrocious thing in those times. They openly sided with the arabs whilst the Jews of then palestine fought in British uniform in WW2. The British betrayed the Jews for a long time since the Balfour decleration, they back peddeled and harmed Jews and early Israel every step of the way. Survivors of death camps in Europe were thrown in camps in Cyprus. So many dastardly deeds its hard to comprehend how the British could behave in that manner. Honour and fair play was supposed to b part of its culture, just not when it comes to the Jews. Poles too were bitter to them after the war for selling them out to Stalin. And finally if I wasnt a Brit myself, Id pretty much loathe them too along with Begin. PS. I left that accursed country of my birth as soon as I was old enough to, at 19.
2. The Brits were dogs to the Jews and are to this very day
Al   (04.21.11)
Israel may have helped the Argies but that didnt stop them from helping to bomb the Jewish centre in BA. in 1994. Begin was not especially bright. Stubborn yes, stupid as well, for we see the results of his stupity today. He gave away the Sinai to win his nobel prize. He set the stage for uprooting Jews from their homes with destroying Yamit. Thats his legacy!
3. British deception
Joseph ,   Malta   (04.21.11)
Good for him. And it should be done again if need be. Israel should not forget how the british stopped the Jews getting to their homeland after ww2.
4. This gentile Brit loves Mr Begin
OyVaGoy ,   UK   (04.21.11)
Israel could do with Menachem Begin now. So could the world.
5. Indeed, Israel is like a fox.:)
Al Mujahid   (04.21.11)
6. it wasn't personal it was just business
zionist forever   (04.21.11)
If you want to sell weapons the best time to sell them is in the middle of a war when they are being used so the client is using them and so will want to keep buying more. Argentina wanted weapons, the Falklands was not an Israeli war but we did need the money so we sold them. If we didn't sell then the Argentinians would have found another arms manufacturer who would have sold them what they needed. We we not supporting Argentina in the war we just wanted their money. In the arms trade there is no morality and you can't afford to take sides. As long as your confident these weapons will not one day be used against the country exporting them then whoever wants to buy you sell to or you go out of business.
7. I have no sympathies with the Argies, but payback is a bitch
Scott ,   USA   (04.21.11)
8. Begin is a true Hero
Moish ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.21.11)
The British armed the Arabs, kept Holocaust survivors from reaching Israel after the war, and imposed restrictions on Israel from defending itself. Anyone willing to fight their Colonialism of the Jewish People's self-determinism is a HERO! Begin was such a man.
9. WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE ARE WE ?
FO ,   Belgium   (04.21.11)
That Ynetnews consider it as necessary to explain who Dov Gruner was. Ask Israeli youth about him ! How many will give you a correct answer ? Perhaps 5% ? I am afraid I am still too optimistic. Ask French youth who Jean Moulin was? At least he is buried at the Panthéon by decision of the French Republic ! Dear reader, do you know were Dov Gruner is buried ??? The British not only prevented Jews to reach Palestine just after WW II, they prevented during the war, Jews who succeeded to escape from Europe, to reach Palestine, in total breach of the "road map" they had to follow, namely the decisions of the League of Nations voted in 1922 and called the "Mandate for Palestine". Is it so difficult to understand the struggle of Begin, Gruner and comrades in the Irgun, against the British, who betrayed and the Jews, and the League of Nations ?
10. #7 is the only one who is on the mark
Zionist socialist ,   Jerusalem   (04.21.11)
In my opinion Mr Begin was a very great statesman. He was loyal to Israel and to the people of Israel no matter where they happened to be living. I don't buy into the concept of revenge by Mr. Begin as written up by this self serving Argentine 'journalist' (everyone in Argentina is either a 'journalist' or 'psychologist'). The reason I don't buy into this theory of Mr. Begin seeking revenge is because Mr. Begin would have been more concerned with R-E-S-C-U-I-N-G Argentine Jews from the Junta than he would have been about avenging Dov Gruner, (may his memory be for a blessing). Yes he probably did approve the sale of arms to the Argentine Army. and yes it was probably as #6 says for the practical point of making money. But it was also for the very practical point of saving as many members of the Jewish Argentine community as possible. And I will note that Mr. Begin didn't ask if those Argentine Jews were left or right wingers. (Most were leftists). Mr. Begin only asked if they were Jews in need of assistance and then he made the decision to assist them. There are clear records of all of these things and they are not fictional or fictionalized fairy tales such as this one written by this so-called journalist!
11. The more I find out about this Begin the more I admire him
Jason McNamara ,   UK   (04.21.11)
At least someone stuck it up these back stabbing Brits.Since childhood I have had a great admiration for you amazing Israeli's.No other nation on earth has gone through what Israel has and is going through. And yet,you are still standing tall.
12. Begin
Aron Lippe ,   London, Uk   (04.21.11)
Once a terrorist-always a terrorist. It seems that the Revisionist/Likud warped version of history and the truth has had its effect. Begin and his psychopaths killed more Jews than they did Brits.
13. French missiles sunk British Ships
Jonny ,   South Africa   (04.21.11)
14. Begin
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (04.21.11)
If you read Begin's life story "White Nights" then it's possible to understand him and even respect him both as a person and also for what he did for Israel. However I am really quite shocked at this intervention in the Falklands war. If it led to the deaths of any British soldiers then it is unforgivable, to say nothing of the damage it must have done to Israel's reputation just because of his personal hatred for Britain.
15. If Begin hated the British rightfully so then
Paul ,   Jersualem, Israel   (04.21.11)
imagine how much he would hate them now. Perhaps the most arrogant, deceptive, self-centered, bloated with self-importance bunch of trash existing today.
16. The fascist military dictatorship of Argentina
RBG   (04.21.11)
was dealt a mortal blow by Thatcher's response to Argentinian aggression. Movements for democratic change throughout Sth America were saved from receiving a serious setback. At the same time Thatchers actions sent a strong message to Moscow , during a crucial time in the cold war, that the western democracies had not gone soft. This was the real meaning of the Falklands war. Begin's actions are petty, sad and pathetic in comparison to Mrs Thatchers. But good long term strategic thinking is not the hallmark of Israel's politicians is it What a pity Israel did not have Thatcher as leader instead of Begin.
17. No 7, I gues you are the big deal writing from the US
noScott ,   beer sheva, Israel   (04.21.11)
I don't like you neither. Being an Argie and an Israeli, I'm proud of Begin, a true man of convictions. Sad that in Argentina people ignore Israel was one of the few friends of Argentina back then...
18. # 2
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.21.11)
Menachem Begin gave away Sinai for peace with Egypt. Is there anyone on this planet dead or alive that you respect?
19. And what about all the Jews who were...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.21.11)
disappeared by the Argentinian military goverment? I guess they didn't matter to the late PM Begin, after all, most of them were left leaning. And he had an old grudge to work on.
20. #13 - French made missles launched from
seadog1946 ,   ErieBasin, NYC   (04.21.11)
French made planes, flown by Iraqis, punched large holes in the USS Stark. American made missles, launched by the Mujahadeen punched holes in Russian Helicopters. French made aircraft, flown by Israelis, attacked the USS Liberty... this can go on and on but why bother. It's all a matter of perspective... especially if you are on the receiving end.

22. Hey British People,
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.21.11)
Beware the man who has received charity from you.
23. Cream pies at ten paces
Robert ,   Brisbane Australia   (04.21.11)
I doubt that any Israeli arms had sufficient time to reach Argentina before its surrender. If they had they would be languishing at the bottom of the Atlantic.
24. Return home??
Robert ,   Brisbane Australia   (04.21.11)
"Israel's fuel tanks were vital for Argentina's war effort, enabling pilots to fly to the Falklands and return home without stopping for fuel along the way". Those fuel tanks were superfluous as the pilots didn't return home anyway. They were mostly shot out of the sky by superior British pilots and aircraft.
25. Israel needs a Begin today
Rachel ,   US   (04.21.11)
Israel definitely needs someone with his strength and conviction.
26. To #12 We do not need anymore lippe
jason white ,   afula, israel   (04.21.11)
from you. I do not like Begin, never did. He was too far to the left for me.And the same with his likud party. However your labor party and the other leftists sold out fellow Jews that belonged to the Irgun and the Stern group to the same limies that would not allow Jews into the mandate to escape the nazis. The same limies that armed, trained and led the arabs. Too bad begin did not kill some of these traitors to the Jewish people. The same goes with the ones that fired on the Altalena and killed and wounded volunteers from the Holocaust that were coming here to fight for our independence. When that ship was sunk with the weapons and ammo that was on board, we lost Jerusalem for 19 years. Your leftists did it.
27. Dov Gruner
MP ,   New York, NY   (04.21.11)
Dov Gruner is buried in Tsfat, and I had the honor of placing a rock on his tombstone!
28. The British and Begin, the empty egg
Baruch Jamili ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (04.21.11)
They weren't altogether in love with him either. There is something petty and vengeful about this. It's all tied in with his deep gult over having abandoned his parents to a cruel death at the hands of the Nazis after he left Poland. He abused the Holocaust for his own political gain, using German reparations as a stick with which to beat Ben Gurion and whipping up anger with his demagoguic speeches, appealing as they did to the baser instincts. He couldn't avoid it even when he was signing the Israel-Egypt peace treaty at the White House - "the six million look down upon us today". Actually they weren't, and to use that as a Hechsher for a peace deal is pretty gross. Then when we recall how he allowed himself to be duped by Sharon during the disastrous war in Lebanon in 1982 and the disgusting Sabra and Shatilla massacres in which Sharon was implicated, and the chain of command ended with Begin the Prime Minister, what is there left to say? Oys Geblozener Ay - an overblown or emnpty egg - fits Begin rather well.
29. to #22
2Mad ,   צרפת   (04.21.11)
Are you reffering to London 07/07/2005 ?
30. To #22 Hey salami, you are the ones receiving
jason white ,   afula, israel   (04.21.11)
charity from all over. What charity did we get from the limies? The Jews volunteered to serve in the limies army to fight the nazis. You all were working with the nazis. By the way, what is this "palestine" you always sign off with?Is it the name of a soft drink? Or an arab cracker? There is no country called palestine and there never will be. So just write arab illegally occupied Zionist land.
