1. the problem is that according to the Talmud this is IDOLOTRY

2. Would Israel have acted differently?
Mark Jeffery Koch ,   Cherry Hill, NJ USA   (04.24.11)
Question for the Israeli government... what would the response of the Israeli army be if three cars full of Palestinians entered the West Bank compound of Joseph's Tomb without permission and then tried to break through a local checkpoint? They would have been targeted and destroyed.
3. entrance to dome of rock must be allowed only once a month

4. R the IDF the problem?
RJK ,   Canada   (04.24.11)
Why R only these few visits allowed? Why R not more allowed? This is most obviously a site that many people wish to visit. It appears the IDF are not being helpful in their co-ordination. When people have to go, at night, to visit a site, it is quite obvious the reason is not enough access being allowed during the day. So, fix the problem. Allow more daytime visits. If the IDF can't do so, make it the issue of the goverment. To those who suggest it the fault of those who visited, that they were shot at and killed. What in the world R U talking about! Can U imagine someone who has visited DisneyLand, at night, who is doing nothing more than knelling down being shot. They weren't acting belligerent in any way. They weren't carrying weapons. They were worshiping! You come across as one who supports these murdering Pals. Are U out of your mind???
5. Jews-our own worst enemy!
Mark ,   USA   (04.24.11)
Jews should be allowed to visit their holy sites just a muslims may visit theirs-what is this? Are the israelis worried about offending the sensitive arabs? What happened in '48 with Jerusalem? What does it take to get Jews to learn from the past? Do we just choose to dumb ourselves down? Why in the world did Dayan give management of the Temple Mount entirely to the arabs?
6. Joseph's Tomb
Pamela ,   Vista, USA   (04.24.11)
It is heartbreaking that Israelis must seek "permission" or "sneak in" to visit their holy sites. Every single place noted in the Tanakh and Holy Scriptures should be open for visitation and prayer. It is shameful to withhold those who desire to come worship and pray and it is unspeakably worse to fire upon the unarmed and peaceful.
7. Visiting graves
onimo ,   Barcelona, Spain   (04.24.11)
The Israelites worship life, not death. These visits to our dead and Yad Vashem frankly give me the creeps.
8. NOW WE KNOW, just a little more.
Mark from Georgia ,   USA   (04.24.11)
I've waited to pass judgment on this story, for this exact reason. I could tell more facts were going to come out. It seems since the story has broken, that it changed about six times with updates. So now if understand it, these worshipers broke the law by going without a permit. But this is done every night, so there was no reason for Arab police to shoot. First, people do this every night. Second, to my knowledge there has never been Jewish people attacking Arabs there. In fact the opposite is true, Arabs have attacked Jewish people at this site before. Third, there was no prior confrontation, so why did the Arab police open fire? We'll have to wait for more updates.

11. Israel prevents 1 billion Muslims from praying in Jerusalem
TG ,   USA   (04.25.11)
Joseph tomb is a burial place of a muslim scholar and imam who lived there 100s of years ago but Jews stole and claimed its theirs as did to the rest of Palestine.
12. Let's do the math
Dan ,   RG   (04.25.11)
500000 men want to pray, another 500000 are women who don't go anyway now. Each family has more than 3 children so that's another 1 mil +. Out of a country of 7 million, 2 million or 25% want to go to pray?
13. To #7,
RJK ,   Canada   (04.25.11)
who is obviously not with the point. You seem to be confusing Jews for what RC,c do, regularly. Israelies do not visit to honour their dead. On the contrary. They visit Yad Vashem to remember what was done to their dead. Dead who had absolutely nothing to do with contributing to their own deaths. So, please, if you can, get some historic context into your landscape be4 U attempt a comment. The opposite is the truth. The Pals are world renowned for their lust after & desire to parade their dead in an orge of death lust. They believe that dying for what they have come to perseve as Allah, will bring them into their perseption of "Glory". They have absolutely NO respect for life. If they did, they wouldn't encourage their own children to die, & in so doing, take as many Jews as possible with them. This is their desire. Plain & Simple! To make any comparison to Arabs(Allah) and Jews(their God) is foolish and totally incorrect. Do yourself and all readers a honour, if you can, and don't pervert reality just too get what yu think is some sort of "belief" across. One has only to pay attention to current events, so available online, even to U, that underscore the reality. For lack of a better word, Pals, try their damnest to kill as many Jews as is possible, regardless of age(re:schoolbus???) and bombing indiscriminately in areas of young and old. They view it as honourable. Honourable to what is bizarre as they should by now have determined that they are not receiving the rewards they expect. But, that doesn't deter them. They Kill, Kill, Kill. That is their credo. So Pleeeeese! Save your warped comments for other forums. You are so out of line as to be disgusting.

Onimo, Your post is the creepiest, I have ever read on this board... Did it ever occur to you, that in this era, we are called Jews..And as always, since about 6500 years,we Jews, worship One G-d... We value life, try to live by fulfilling at least 10 of the over 600 Commandments, our G-d gave us to obey and fulfill...Do you think you could explain the point or reason of your comment about Yad Vashem ?
15. #1, #7 are both wrong
Babishka ,   USA/Mea Shearim   (04.25.11)
It is an ancient and honorable tradition, mentioned many times in TANAKH, to pray at the graves of the saintly departed. We do not pray TO the deceased, we pray to HASHEM that He grant our prayers in the merit of the deceased.
16. Amazing the Spin!
Dallas ,   Canada   (04.25.11)
These were worshippers killed in cold blood. The lefty apologists twist themselves into pretzels to try to prove some kind of equivalence. Let's face it - the PA is a culture of death. Every 12-year-old Pal kid is full of songs of murder and vengeance. Israelis are people. Sam Remo has not been legally abrogated - the Arab-driven UN has overstepped its legal rights in advancing the Big Lie. It's time for Israel to go back to basic legal precedent and just annex Judea and Samaria - right a 2000-year wrong, acknowledge the inevitable that they are part of Israel for many reasons. Residents can either live in Israel peaceably or leave if they don't like it.

Mark, it was written in the press here that the Hassidim threw stones at the PA police. Whilst trying to speed away in their cars, the PA police shot into the air; 1 car crashed into the checkpoint where the PA police shot at the windshield (at the driver) to stop. To me that is murder !! The PA is now busy investigating, we wait to hear their lies.

Yad Vashem is a memorial to all the millions of Jews who were killed during the Holocaust. We Jews have to pass the truth onto our future generations. It is part & parcel of our history. Never to forget & never again. No one enjoys a visit to Yad Vashem. It is not a place for enjoyment.

Israel doesn't open fire on people who have an obvious non-threatening identity, people dressed in very identifiable clothes visit the tomb almost every day. So your answer is YES of course Israel would have acted differently.
20. Broaden the picture
Paul ,   Israel   (04.25.11)
To all the talkbackers who relate to this problem as if it is a market of supply and demand, I think you are forgetting something, an additional piece to the puzzle: The Arab Palestinian inhabitants of Nablus/Schem, who live there every day and who see this convoy of buses filled with Israeli religious Jews ( who have been responsible for many ugly incidents in the past), as a provocation and see that they want to flood the place with worshipers as part of their ideology to lay claim to it as a Jewish site - and THAT is what bothers the inhabitants of Nablus: It is not just letting them pray there, it is also a part of the conflict of to whom Nablus/Schem belongs. The army needs to coordinate with the Governor of Nablus and PA authorities in order to arrange these convoys as well. Perhaps they don't want any more convoys? Perhaps the army is being circumspect and wishes to avoid conflict? The fact that so many flout these arrangements is not something that should evoke sympathy - they are challenging the authority of the military administration in the West Bank and Schem, blatantly ignoring the orders and arrangements made for their own safety. They do not subscribe to the Laws of the State, they only follow the Law of the Torah. Ever since I served there in the late '80's, they have been a thorn in the side of the army's efforts to walk a thin line between allowing worship and not provoking the Palestinians. I am a traditional Jew and a staunch Zionist, but I agree with no.1. There is an element of idolatry here. I denounce the killing, but the responsibility is still that of the worshipers. When you decide to play cat and mouse, you should remember that sometimes the mouse loses. Same here - they knew they were being provocative. They knew that it was not sanctioned ( otherwise they wouldn't have had to sneak in - and when you sneak, by definition you are acting suspiciously), they knew it was dangerous. OK, they didn't pull the trigger, but they did just about everything else to prepare the scene.
21. @15 o really? I'm wrong?! so is the Rambam then?
#1   (04.25.11)
what is the reason given for Israel not knowing where Aaron and Moses are buried? What does the Talmud say about that? What does the Rambam say about that? But according to you I'm wrong! LMAO @ ur lack of knowledge!

Ok to all of you TBers especially to the American ones. If a road block is set up by a police force and you are ordered to stop what do you do? a. Stop b. run the road block expose yourself to being fired upon See if you translate it down to an occurance in the United States you may begin to realize that if you run a Police road block you are committing an act of aggression and well expect to get the results of your aggression right in your face!

A military source told Ynet that the shooting was **not** an act of terror, adding the incident COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED, had the group simply coordinated their arrival to the area in advance.

Birdi ,   Israel   (04.25.11)
Paul, I have read all the talkbacks you have written on this subject & I respect your opinions & the fact that you served part of your service in Nablus. However the PA police did not have to shoot through the windshield with intent to kill. There are pictures of the car's windshield showing the hole the bullet made, on the left side of the windshield. In Israel, that is the driver's side. They, (PA police) could have easily shot at the tyres of the cars to stop the cars & escort the men to the IDF.

28. fishy story
observer ,   Egypt   (04.25.11)
The Samaritan woman said, “Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.” (John 4:20). The mountain she references is Mt. Gerizim. That's why every year Passover settlers pray at the Patriarchs' Tomb and in the mean time settlers forbid worshiping at Josephs'. The PA hasn't declared who was/were the shooter(s), because PA is not sure who else are envoved. False flag operation, as so many by Israeli; Lavon affair in Egypt, the latest killings: Mer Khamis in WB, Italian activist in Gaza.
29. Jews not allowed to worship G-d in idolatry shrine
observer ,   Egypt   (04.25.11)
Sheikh Yussuf (Joseph) Dawiqat, was buried there two centuries ago. Ancestor worship is for Chinese, for Hindus and for Catholics. It is pagan and unseemly, totally incompatible with monotheism, and utterly banned by the Torah. But, Jews actually leave the land of Israel to visit the graves of rabbis in Ukraine for Rosh HaShana.
30. To Birdi, #26
Paul ,   Israel   (04.25.11)
You are absolutely right. The fact that the Breslav Hassidim are in my opinion responsible for this incident, they are not to BLAME. Please note the difference between the two. The PA police did not have to shoot to kill, that is clear, but we all know who we are dealing with and that they would shoot to kill, so why give them the opportunity? To a rational person, it would behoove upon us to behave accordingly and not put ourselves in such a dangerous position. That is why I think that it was reckless to, say the least, that they tried to sneak in. It's like if you play in traffic on a highway, you are likely to be run over.
